I’ve recently purchased one of these beasts! My one seems very loud mechanically on the capstan motor Is yours the same? I’ve changed the bearings It just seems quite loud but have no reference to compare
@@BunkerAnalog Thanks for replying It’s actually the capstan servo isn’t locking Every time I set it up it with the scope it locks but when I turn it off and return it’s not locked So not sure what’s going on there Any ideas?
@@jameslister6717 it happened to mine once. it ended up being a bad ic on the capstan drive card. but i would start by cleaning all those sensor on the transport and the checking if there is any rust on those jumpers in the drive card.

This is awesome! Years ago I worked at a high end audio manufacturer. Me and another guy there set up Mono systems at home to the chagrin of the owner.
I owned this 24track recorder for many years and it sounds great ! I also had the Tascam M600 desk in the 90's and I produced and recorded all the Lords Of Acid Albums from the 90's on it !
Hola Bunker! Fantastic recording, I came to your video trying to find some information about this amazing tascam. I’m about to buy one in very good condition, but everybody tells me there is a lot of hiss in Tascam ATR. In this recording I didn’t notice barely any hiss. How do you control this? Is it worth it to have this very big machine for a home studio? Lovely version! Parabens!
Yes, if it is well maintained, properly aligned and calibrated (with good tape), you should have very gentle hiss (specially at 30ips). This machine is VERY well built and Tascam inherited it from Ampex ATR fabrication lines when they bought it (i was told so by a very respectable engineer). I already sold mine as i closed the studio, but when i had it, i took very good care of it and used it on a daily basis for 10+ years with no problems at all. A real workhorse! But you have to make sure the machine is good and working condition as mine was BEFORE buying it. If it is not, it could turn into a maintenance nightmare. About being worth or not, it absolutely is, IMHO, as long as you don't expect it to act like a daw. You will have a lot of manual reading, buying expensive tape, techie talk, buying: O-Scope, Demag, Fish Scale, Tentel, Alignment tape...and so on.....with that being said, it should give you goose bumps everytime you playback a take! Cheers!
Bunker Analog thank you very much! Would you recomend any mixer? I’m being offered a good deal for a tascam TM D8000 and a motu 2408, to pasa it to my daw, could it work with this tape recorder?
What year is that Fender Strat you used? Everytime I hear this I become more addicted to this fantastic song, perfect guitar tone. Is that a shy Hammnond Backwards?
Oldscool??? ...no, its analog, and used in moste good studios! It was never stoped completely, only in the end 90s beginning 2000s was a lidl hole in recording on tape! Becouse all ads sayed digi is better, and becouse digi was cheeper! But it is come fast back and some have never stoped to record on tape! Now its come more and some new maschines was build! Its a other kind of recording like digi! Both are good, but a good studio can record analog to 100% from +mic, about tape to vinyl+ and can also work digi! I myself like analog recording!, more than digi!!!, but digi technic can be also good and be usefull for some kind of parts, musik or working and i like it to! Both are good! But digi is only since 2010 a good kind to record, it have now a good quality, in the early days it was expensiv and not good in sound! ...the only think who is good on digi is that it is not so expensiv, you need not so many expensiv ana outbord thinks and a good big analog recording mixer! Same with taperecorder and tapes! Thats the biggest different of thay to kinds of recording technics! The price/Coast of analoge recording!, and space for it (cost also money ;) ) ...but good studios need also many money for digi recording equitment, and regie + recording room! ...its a question of money and posibility! By both kinds of recording technics! ....love tape!!! Have two tascam MS 16 Recorder + two 8 track recorder and masterrecorder (one is a professional tube master recorder from beginning 60s!!!, not consumer!!!) ...like it!
Forget, ...nice recorder! Love the atr 60 and atr 80 recorder! (Ms 16 series to, have two as i sayed) think about to buy a tascam atr 80 24 track maschine! I will look what the future bring ;) ...studer would be also nice! 8, 16 or 24 track! The A80 or A800 series from studer! Would be very nice to work with tascam and studer side by side ;) ...linke some other big pro-studios ;) ...Greetings, a tape fan!!!
Can you please help me and explain how to open the upper deck, to see underlying parts like the Pinch Roller Solenoid? Do I have to remove the whole head ?
Bunker Analog Puxa, obrigado.
Abs!
