It depends on the Tumbler but there’s a few that if you soak it in acetone, that texture will peel off like a balloon. Other times, I just got a really low grit sand paper and just sanded it off. If you’re doing Glitter over it though, that little texture won’t matter.
Acetone is toxic if you drink it, but it evaporates completely without leaving residue. Chemistry labs use it to clean glassware because it actually leaves it cleaner and safer than water.
Please do some research. Acetone is used for many things in varying concentrations, including as an industrial cleaner and as nail polish remover. You've had your nails done, haven't you? The esthetician uses acetone to remove the old polish, then cleans your hands, then puts the new polish on. Then you go to Burger King, and have a Whopper and fries which you eat with your hands. You're perfectly safe.
The stainless doesn’t absorb the acetone and the tumbler is cleaned with Dawn dish soap before it’s sent out. Any traces of that is long gone before the customer gets ahold of it.
It’s a dewalt electric sander. I do have sanding sponges and different grit sand paper I use depending on the step I’m on. I have a Sanding 101 tutorial on this channel to help explain.
If you’re comfortable working at a faster pace, yes! Definitely. If you’re not quite comfortable working quick, then give it a little more time. Once the fast set epoxy is mixed together you only have about 10 to 15 minutes max work time.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the results you got here. Beautiful. I thought I would watch the Flynn Sisters version but cannot find that video. Do you have a link to it? Thanks.
This is so great!! New design, beautiful vinyl, and the rhinestones put it over the top! Did you make your own wording using fonts or is this available for purchase somewhere? If you did it, what fonts did you use? Thanks so much!
You did a beautiful job. I finally got my hands on that vinyl and I can’t make myself use it. 😂 I can’t use epoxy, so I’m worried I’ll mess it up. I’ve been using Brite Tone but bought some Hyperion to try. I don’t like the yellowing that can occur with the Brite tone and the Grande Finale just doesn’t shine enough for me. I’m used to the shine of epoxy before I developed an allergy to it. Fingers crossed Hyperion does better.
Thanks, Teresa. I hope it does, too. I loooove epoxy, so much. I love all of the different effects you can get from it. Especially when using alcohol inks. Unfortunately, that’s not an option with the epoxy alternatives. They don’t mesh. 😭 I’m hopeful that one day there’ll be an alternative that allows those allergic to epoxy can use to create beautiful things that epoxy can accomplish. But, for now, I’m limited.
Girl!! This is Beautiful!!! You did great with the rhinestones. What I do when I rhinestone a name or any lettering, I usually start out with a solid color rhinestone in an SS6, and do the outline of the letters first, then go back and fill in with a scatter mix. I finally ordered some of that Ivory glitter from Backfist. I havent had a chance to use it yet, but I think i will use it on some mothers day tumblers. ❤❤❤
Thanks!! I was debating on an outline of rhinestone for what I have now but am scared it won’t come out completely straight. I’ll have to do it like you said next time. Let me know why you think of that glitter. It’s so pretty!
@SippieCouture , Teresa, yes. I'll tell you , you are doing already so much n Better than I did when I first started doing rhinestones. I look back at some of the first items I made, and they look awful now. Lol. At the time I thought I did so good. The only thing I don't like about it. Is it is so time consuming. I'm still trying to finish up 2 dome lid tumbler orders a lady ordered from me 2 months ago. Of course I work a regular job. So I haven't had as much time the last few weeks. Thankfully she is patient and eas in no hurry. Lol. I'll let you know about the glitter. When I saw you had bought and used it, it looked so pretty. I just had to order. Thank you!
I think you did a beautiful JOB!! and I agree it's pretty with the Stones, but it was also Very pretty with the patterned Vinyl with or without a offset!
I don't blame you, when you first put the vinyl lettering on I THOUGHT WOW THATS STUNNING. BUT when the stones were finished I thought the same thing, stunning.. @@SippieCouture
I totally love this cup want to make it for myself the colors are just gorgeous I have to get the courage and try recreating it. By the way you did awesomely! Just subscribed new follower ❤
I just want to say that this is the first time I have watched you, and I think you are a pretty great teacher. It is good to see you make mistakes so we know how to handle them when we make them. Have you thought about creating a template of your stencil hearts already layed out so you can just transfer it to your tumbler each time? If you make a lot of them it seems it would make it so much faster for you. Your work is beautiful!
You’re so sweet, thank you for that! I havn’t done a stencil because I’m cheap and don’t want to waste vinyl. 😂 it’s kinda fun placing them differently every time too. 😊
