This channel is a lifetime project I assigned to myself. The channel name refers to half of the project, to go around China. The other half is to read about China, about its history, economics and politics. I've been doing the two for over seven years and I started filming it three years ago (as of 2023).
I try to combine traveling and reading in the videos. Besides showing you the places of interest, I always talk about histories and stories behind them. Sometimes I quote the books I read related to the place.
China has a huge territory and 5000 years of history. In three years, I only covered a tiny bit of it. As I planned, it's a lifetime project.

Hmong are not Chinese. Miao is a term referred to other ethnic besides Chinese. Hmong is not Miao either. Hmong is Hmong, we have a culture much different from any Chinese culture. Chinese conquered those lands back in the day and burned all of our culture and history. Don’t believe the lies nowadays.
Hmong people’s ancestors can be traced back to Chiyou, one of the three tribal leaders who were recorded in the grand historian. Hmong appeared about two thousand years earlier than Han, which is contradictory to the current communist regime’s narrative for Han people dominating the entire Chinese history. Sanxingdui excavations in Sichuan province proved that ancient civilizations could trace back to Sumerian times.
Hmong means free and we will never accept the name Miao. However, I understand the historical name given to us by the Han Chinese. No respect to the narrator. Great job on your reporting of this and identify the Hmong people in your research. Today, as a Hmong American, I have no quarrels with my Chinese brothers. History is history, we are one people.
The hmongs in laos and US only have the men play the bamboo flute. Didnt know it was for woman only for china hmongs. Our cultures are still very similar. The leader carrying the chicken, the hmong folk songs, and many other things are still so similar. Our languages are so different now though, we cant understand chinese hmong and they cant understand us
Thank you so much YanYan for making and sharing those very interesting videos of places I wanted to visit for 30 years. Being a foreigner with an HK permanent ID card, I still hope that one day China let me enter them from the Shenzhen side before I die.
I am going back to Simapuzhen for the 2nd time end of this July. Will visit Shantou. My late dad travelled from Simapu to shantou to depart for Penang.
What you researched is what my great great great grandpa passed down the generation to me. I myself am Black Hmong (Clothing) and speak White Hmong (Dialect). It's so wonderful to see Hmong through the world finally living in peace.
Just like the Chinese didn't called themselves Chinese, the West called them Chinese. What do the Chinese called themselves? We are called Hmong.Hmong means The Kingdom of Heaven.❤❤❤
14:58, Lusheng is meant for celebration, while Lu Qeng/Keng is meant for funerals and not to be played for fun. You can die by calling the dead to take you if there is no dead body at the funeral. Ghost will come after you.
The hmong people displayed great enthusiasm and passion for their culture and customs throughout epic history from their ancestors. They are very smart and loyal to their heritage. They have many great leaders from China to Laos! They helped the United States during the Vietnam war. They are still under rated and not really recognized throughout some countries. The United States recognized their bravery and Hmong people scarified to fight alongside with US military! Finally, United States admitted that Hmong people are great people deserve to respect and appreciate their hard work as well as their dedication . The president of the United States and many leaders from Washington DC finally praising for their heroism, courage and determination to support United States military. Till today, Hmong people still the unsung heroes alliance’s United States of America!
Thanks for explaining the Hakkas. I renewed my fascination with the Hakkas. I’m am born and raised in New York City. My father is from Hubei and my mother is 100% Cantonese Hakka but born and raised in Tsingtao in Shantung. I don’t know much about my father’s people but while I never learned how to speak Hakka but am heavily influenced by my mother’s Hakka heritage. Experiencing my mother’s bravery, hardworking, and kindness, I am proud to be half Hakka.
I’m a New York City- born and raised Chinese American. My mother is Hakka and while I never learned to speak Hakka since Mandarin is what was spoken at home, I was heavily influenced by my mother’s ways. I experienced her courageous, hard-working, talented, and kindness and am proud that I am half Hakka.

I’m born and raised in New York City by my Chinese parents from the mid 20th century. My mother is full Hakka and even though I never learned to speak Hakka but am proud of my Hakka heritage which I experienced by my mom’s example of courage, hardworking, and generous ways. She got a full scholarship from an American college in North Carolina starting with little English and graduated. I will always remember her fondly. Lee Kuan Yew as far as I understand is the best prime minister Singapore ever had and much respect for him.
