It's looking awesome! Stream and bridge turned out great! Totally in the camp of flex-tube-cutters and the trees really add to the castle. You should totally tile up the water, it looks so polished. To save on some bricks - it looks like you have some space to add the island with the grave? Or half of it or just a small version of it. Forced perspective and all that. An island, wave builds, white foam against the rocks will save you some trans blue tiles.
I've started my own hogwarts moc series, and yours has inspired me. Your content is very enjoyable, and your techniques are great too!! Very excited for every video.
I got another idea for your 11 studs design. How about letting the outer edges of the two roof halves sit on jumperplates, that should reduce the width by half a brick on either side and bring it together in the top middle. You will also get a slight "decoration" with the lip the jumpers will add. The downside is that it might be difficult to add the slopes on top of the jumpers, unless you use 1x2 jumpers all the way. Good luck - and the design of your buildings are looking better for each episode!
Love the progress! The terrain looks great, and I like your river / bridge idea to add some different colour / texture. Keen to see how the outer wall turns out next week! You’ve made great progress in 10 weeks 👍
I hope you complete everything from Hogwarts castle, Quiditch, hogsmeade and station and a journey to London 9 3/4 along with London to the extent of leaky cauldron, diagon alley, knockturn alley and ofcourse a colony of the privet drive and of course the playing swings area from harry potter order of the phoenix!
Really great job with the terrain, it looks fantastic! Also a good choice of making the fountain area in the grounds a bit smaller, adding the dark forest, Hagrids hut and the patronus scene adds so much more than just the open grounds. Stream really looks great and the colour transition works - making the lake bright really captures the scene from the movie. Leaving it brighter can also allow you to be playful with the trees, adding brighter, or even trees built with blue pieces closest to the lake to bring out a more organic look. Kinda like they are doing in the recent forbidden forest sets. If you're open to suggestions, regarding the dungeon area and empty bit of water between the astronomy tower and Ravenclaw tower - It would be so cool if you did the Hufflepuff common room where you're planning to to the Slytherin common room. Your take on the Hufflepuff common room with a small skylight and above park, like it's in the game, would be awesome to see. The Slytherin common room could instead go in the water area if you raise the water level, build a small waterfall towards the long bridge. Really great of you having us follow along your build, this is one of my youtube highlights of the week
Thank you so much for your comment, I really appreciate the time you took out of your day to share your thoughts! You’ve given me plenty to think about and you might just be surprised how much of that I’ll be taking on board for future episodes.
Still so happy to see your videos popping in my feed ! maybe adding merpeople in the weird water bit behind the castle or a depiction of the scene where the golden trio give a slice of toast to one of the giant squid could be nice ... This scene is referred to in the video game and I do believe in that quest the player has to find the cave where someone is buried behind the mosaic of the giant squid. Which reminds me, the cave would approximately be located roughly at this spot of the castle ...
I would love to see the scene in which lupin teaches about the boggart, and maybe you could make a giant spider with rollerskates or one of the other things that appear. This would probably look cool.
Looking good. For that odd numbered brick building I think I would have gone with a decorative centreline ridge. Something three studs wide with sand green cheese slopes for the outer rows to integrate it to the roof slope and then something in tan along the peak of the crest, maybe back to back 1x2 inverted arches (78666) capped with tan ingots or maybe a row of 1x2 tan or sand green jumpers with sand green cones. Perhaps a plate layer topped with tan or sand green 1x1 pyramid tiles. The asymmetrical roof just stands out as uneven, especially since you drew attention to it😊 Nice build and looking forward to more.
Love the progress, and I really enjoying your weekly updates! A scene that’d be great to see is the Defence Against the Dark Arts class in PoA where Snape fills in to teach (‘turn to page 394’ 😉) - the dark shutters on the windows and the projector screen could be a lot of fun to try and recreate - plus I think the design of the DADA classroom is really interesting.
Awesome update once again👏 and Congrats on 500 subs🎉 I would love it if you included any lesson with umbridge or Rita skeeter interviewing Harry Potter in the closet. Also a potions class scene with young Tom Riddle asking slughorn about horcruxes would be fire🔥 One more wish would be the 4 house leaders dueling snape in deathly hallows💜
Love the progress congrats! I really like the stairs + railings between the great hall, the viaduct and the quad archway (which I approve should be wayyy taller) it really has that HL touch! A few things that could help : 1: the astronomy tower looks strange cause it should have a thiner base and a thickest upper part + the side tower should be much taller to look less disproportionate. 2: I also agree with the comment saying that the staircase tower should also look a bit fatter and most all don’t forget that the spire (either in the films or in HL) is pretty much as tall as the tower itself (wall/brick speaking) to look proportionate even tho I know it’s really hard to do in Lego 😢 3: the upper tower on the great hall could also use some taller roof IMO 😁 Anyway keep up the great work 🤩
congrats on the 500 subs. As for a scene, I'd love the one from book 5 where Harry and his friends arrive at a Herbology lesson and Luna makes it known that she believes him about Voldemort. It's outside the greenhouses so no fiddly wall jenga needed and it's got a nice range of characters present including the main trio, Luna, Ginny and some Hufflepuffs.
I love your build and fully sympathize with the roof solutions.👍 Surprisingly, I like the grey/ green slope mix too. Something you won’t want to hear: the main tower is too skinny. It needs to fatten up, and maybe be just a few bricks taller to look better next to the great hall. Apologize, I know you are really satisfied with the progress.
The more I look at it the more I find myself agreeing with you, thank you for sharing your opinion - that is definitely something I need to look at and fix somehow
Hey not a problem at all! I actually found it very refreshing to hear another view on things. Continue to critique as the weeks go on and I’m sure the moc will be better because of it
Of all the many bathroom scenes within Hogwarts...my favorite is Harry and Draco's duel in Half-Blood Prince when Harry hits Draco with Sectumsepra. A bit dark and understandable if you don't want to display that scene in Myrtle's Bathroom. Love what you are doing with your Hogwarts Moc. It looks dope and one of the best that I have seen. I always look forward to these weekly updates and Sand Green is my favorite LEGO color so I'm happy that you include it
@@brickreations5433 Sand Green just hits different. Too true about the grey roofs, but it's rad that you are incorporating both colors in your MOC. Also the entrance cabinet to the Undercroft in Hogwarts Legacy could be a neat easter egg
This is such a fun series, great job! Also building my own version, albeit at a much slower pace. The layout problem and constant shifting of towers and not planning far enough ahead gives me flashbacks. In the end, i actually used masking tape directly on the table to roughly map out the walls and towers. For the small tower on the astronomy tower - perhaps you can borrow some ideas from the official set? Use the main walls with snot-techniques to make it sturdier and open up more options?
Thank you for your message! It’s great to hear that you are likewise battling the complexity that is building Hogwarts in Lego. I love that you resulted to masking tape, great idea! And thank you for your suggestions, using snot did not even cross my mind.
