Outstanding work, friend; my bad luck i am on my second board from china, aliexpress, the first, Neey, 35 euros, was bad, drawing 18 amps steady and trying to melt wires, got refunded after 2 short videos i had to send them, now the second one, from another vendor and each one took 1 week from china to portugal... ( where the courts' INjustice system sucks big time, incompetent and slow, truth be told, lol) ... this module also 16S, 27 euros, does NOTHING, just sits there and draws 1. 32 Amps steady from the battery, on the nr. 1, wire, the minus, black wire, and does NOTHING, even after 5 or 6 hours, all cells are the same, cell 2 at 2.98 and cell 12 at 3.29; now, i will have to open another dispute with aliexpress , likely get refunded again, and do WHAT? order a 3rd one, i guess, my cells are old and i need it; and another week wait; if i get lucky with the 3rd one.... i am a bit of a technician,i repair solar inverters,and yes, my wiring is perfect,1 cell voltage step from pin to pin; that is how it must be checked before connecting the 2 connectors,the 9 pin and the 8 pin ones.

Hey man, I stumbled across your channel while trying to learn a thing or two about batteries for a problem I have, and I was hoping maybe you or one of your knowledgeable viewers could help me out. (Please excuse me if my English isn't perfect.) I have a Shark Wandvac 2.0 vacuum cleaner without a battery. It originally comes with a 14.4-volt Li-Ion battery, but sadly, where I'm from, you can't buy any replacement batteries for it. The vacuum only has two connectors for the battery, so I asked myself if it would be possible to get a simple 4S1P 14.4V battery pack and connect it to the vacuum cleaner. However, none of the batteries I could find have a BMS built in (apparently, these things are quite necessary to prevent issues like blowing up, so I thought it would be better to have one of those). Now my question is: Is it possible to get one of those battery packs and just solder it to the vacuum, and I'll be good to go? Or do I have to fear my vacuum blowing up on me while using or charging it? I sadly don’t know if the original battery has a BMS (is that even possible with only two connectors?). If not, I'd guess that the necessary protection circuits are built into the vacuum itself and the charger? I hope what I typed out is somewhat comprehensible, and I would be really thankful for a response. Thank you so much in advance!

Hi Stuart, Great effort you put in and we all enjoy it, thanks! Is there an example available with the combination of passive and active cell balancing? I am currently using the single cell module and understand that I can combine it with the V4.90. Will all cells be automatically addressed?
@StuartPittaway
@StuartPittaway 16 дней назад
I personally wouldn't mix the single cells and the new all in one solution. Probably better to add an active balancer alongside it.

Max looks overpriced without an ADC. I’d use dsPic33F with up to 32 multiplexed input channels 10/12bits for €4 (with an MCU for free and high resolution PWM if you’d like to use them for an active balancer like a DC/AC full bridge to a multi-coil transformer, or DC/DC single cell charge pump, or for a CCCV charger as a part of a complete solution) rather than Max14921 for €16 without an ADC and MCU, or two LTCs for €32 without an MCU…
@StuartPittaway

I'm not sure where you are buying the MAX chip at $14 USD but from LCSC they are $4.74 in single quantities.

@@StuartPittaway That's a mystery. Because 1000Ku AnalogDevices price is $8.72, Digikey 16.46 eur one piece, and 8.40 eur for 1000Ku, Mouser 14.8 eur one piece, and 9.05 eur 1000Ku. How did you get it twice cheaper than AD sells? -)

YOU SHOULD MAKE THEM BUILT AND AVAILABLE FOR SALE. :) You would gain some $$ out of it and will help people. Anyway 100mA balancing is a JOKE. it would take months to balance. You should do active balancer or at least 1A passive. better toa void passive as it just a waste of energy.

Hey Stuart thanks for the update! Glad to see you are still making good progress on this project :) I've had some issues with the all in one board I bought from the web store and was wondering if you could point me towards some troubleshooting options? When wired up to my 7s pack, all cells read the correct voltage, but over time cell 3 starts to slowly drop and cell 4 slowly climbs until it hits the max value of 4.5v. I've checked the voltages on the cells at the all in one board connector when it does this and they still read within acceptable values so I'm guessing there is a hardware issue? I posted about this on form as well, but I haven't seen a response yet

I was hoping that the board had some means by which it would shut itself off when the balance was within specification, but that may be wishful thinking. I would like to leave the balancer connected with the BMS, but I was hoping it go to sleep when not needed.
