We called that version of Magic 🎩 YMCA Magic, still tricking them kids w/ his tricks. Thought 4 sure he'd b back 2 run w/ Shaq the following season.....but the Lakers needed every nickel available 2 go get Shaq
The yanks were very very snobby to international talent in those days. They still cant accept the fact that the best players in the world don't have to come from the US even today.
Greatest NYK of all time imo! W/ all the ups + downs, highs + lows, nobody cud evoke a live or die mentality like Johnny on the spot! We all knew he took the losses as hard as we did + nobody wanted it more than Starks! Ewing was my favorite player from 6 yrs old (1989) on, but all these yrs later looking back..... It was Starks that I love the most! He is NYC!!
Love the announcer 3:07 He dropped it like putting a baby in a crib. 6:13 Here goes the train. He goes into the station and he banks it in. He hit the caboose and in she went.
Played against him in the whitney m young tournament better known as 139dt park He played for LA all-star Jeff mingo Daryl davis mike pyatt Arnold Duggar etc
They traded for Drexler right after this game. They saw the Knicks coming. If not for the 8 points in 16 seconds. Indy would have lost in 6, and the Magic in 6 as well.
I’m 16 years old and Starks has been my hero all my life. He’s my idol, he’s the best, he’s fearless, he’s the heart of the Knicks (always will be), and he’s the heart of my basketball game
Revenge was served in the Big East Chip #UCONN. 96 was a crazy year for the big east. 3 1st team all Americans and Cuse lost in the Chip v an all time Kentucky team with I believe 9 NBA guys on their roster.
Even as a Pacer fan, I fucking love John starks. He was a nightmare back in the day for the Pacers, but man, I gotta give credit where it’s due. This dude was a maniac on the court
Starks had the ultimate nba shooting guard playstyle in the 90s . He had the sweet athletic jumpshooting form ,great 3pt range with a nice hopstep dribble which was a nice counter for him to pull up midrange or switch speeds to go to the basket hard. HE was a hard-nosed defender .Starks was hyperathletic with his 6'3" wiry frame made him a annoying threat every night against the NBA elites at his position.
What most Americans don’t understand is that Shane Heal could’ve been the Steph Curry of that era, kickstarting the 3pt reign earlier, if coaches back then had given him the green light.
You must know this about me, to know where, when and how I grew up. Born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. A stiff who didn't have cable TV until I was 18. Rick Barry said Shooting: B+, Defense: D. One 1991-92 pre-season magazine called his shot an ugly two-handed push. His shot looks one-handed, more like a Jamal Wilkes, Marcus Camby, Billy Paultz, Sven Nectar type of shot. I did NOT know, that he could dunk! First round draft pick, so made good money.
