This is such a great video that really embodies the challenge of soaring and soaring competition. Too bad the quality is what it is. Having always flown contests and X country using GPS, I am really impressed with navigation skills of these pilots. That landscape is intimidating.
Hey, bud!! You still active?! It is still great that I got a sound recording of your aircraft near my area that time!! (In this video!!: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yZRbuRQHTJU.html.)
@@gdflys Oh, I am not really an Instagram user, I only use RU-vid. I will be GLAD if you post more videos on RU-vid of your aircraft someday!! I also wish to catch your aircraft again one day soon!!
I just found out that for the last fourteen years I've been living 15 minutes away from the MAULE Aircraft factory and I never knew it. This is both a joy and a disappointment. I'm happy to know it's there, and disappointed that I didn't know all those years.
Do you know how many feet that is on a landing and takeoff like this? I have an 850 ft grass strip slightly uphill that i hope to be able to use with my m5. I use it only for my ultralight at the moment but it only uses like a 1/4 of it. My cousin also would like to park his cesna 150 here but doesn't know if he could get back out on 850 feet.
Beautiful!! Is your sailplane a g104 speed astir? How is to Fly? And how is rigging? Somebody Says it is very challenging......is that true? Thankyou! Giuseppe

Wonderful document. BTW - the days winner Markku Kuittinen would win the first of his two world champion titles the same year this film was released 1987.
This film is older than 25 years. The SSA put this out as a Chris Woods production. The one before it was “The Quiet Challenge” narrated by the great John Denver. As a kid I watched both of these VHS tapes until they turned to dust. LOL!!
hey, very nice video. I{mAlberto from Argentina, also have an speed IIb,flew it fpr 50/60 hs, and asking others for advice on flaps speeds, thermalling, how thermal with water (still didn´t load it) turbulators, etc Thanks, regards. albadano2000@yahoo.com.ar
Nice that you added some details to explain what your doing and what soaring is about. Also wondering - is wave better in fall in N.H. than in summer? I fly in Southern CA. Would like to return to my New England roots to soar.
No GPS or track logs back then. Pilots needed to take photo proof of waypoints, ground observers had to determine start and finish times, etc. Pain in the ass compared to today!
