Giving up on the play as usual from these modern day players. They’re paid too much money to feel they need to hustle or stay with the play. If they lose, they still get a monster paycheck and the only ones who get upset about the loss is the stupid fans.
Technically it wasn’t interference but as with a lot of things in life it’s the intent that really counts and determines the umpire’s ruling. What fucked Soto up was his his flawed attempt to get back the bag; first, at a leisurely pace then an abrupt hurried effort to step on the bag coinciding with a collision that caused the infielder to drop the ball. Now if Soto would’ve “sold it” better by hunching down and getting a leg AROUND the infielder all the while still causing a collision he could’ve convinced the umpires that his main intention was to step on the bag instead of interfering with the infielder’s catch.
