I just got my 2008 Cayman S and I was about to go in for a clutch service and oil change. Should I ask them to remove the seal from the bearing so the engines oil can lubricate?

This is the best and most comprehensive explanation I have seen on the IMS bearing and it's associated issues, thank you. I have had a 2006 2.7 Boxster without problems, a 2004 911 C4s which had an engine replaced at 49,000 miles, this car was worked hard. My 2003 Boxster 3.2s had the IMS bearing replaced as a precaution at 95000 miles.

Congratulations on the R41! I think your sentiment and path is going to be very similar to a lot of 997 owners who just love their cars and have owned them long term. I am going on 15 years ownership of a 2006 997.1 Carrera 4S. Love it like no other car I have owned. When the engine gives up the ghost, it will be a rebuild and Raby R40+ at the top of the list. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼👍🏼

What is garage queen status? In my search for a Boxster, I am seeing most cars with 2000-3000 miles per year of age. Very few with even 5000 miles/year. Compare that with the american average of 12-14000 miles/year.

It's cars that never get driven. Cars that sit in garages or storage for months even years without being exercised.

Why take the time to shoot the video, but NOT do it on a real engine? For those of us actually doing the procedure, this isn't very helpful.

hello Mr Raby...I bought a 2002 911 automatic in 2018 with 115k miles... like new... I parked it in garage and since 2018 I have only driven 1 time around block. ..I just checked oil filter and not even a sliver of foreign anything in it... Should i install your solution, and is it possible with an automatic transmission to do in car?
@RennvisionbyTheKnowledgeGruppe
@RennvisionbyTheKnowledgeGruppe 11 месяцев назад
Storing your car for this length of time and not exercising it regularly is one of the worst things you can do for these cars. Your car should be inspected for cylinder bore scoring among other things... and, yes, if it has the original 6204 IMS bearing, I would immediately change it out with and IMS Solution. Doesn't matter if it's a manual transmission or Tiptronic.

What do you recommend for the 987.2 2.9? It is a 9A1 and not an M97 like you refer to in the video, but it does have port injection like the M97 instead of DFI the other 9A1s have.

I was sorta surprised that you didn't mention PEA additives, as virtually every Porsche article/video regarding fuel I have seen has talked about the importance of this chemical in regards to keeping the combustion chamber and the injectors as a whole clean, but in reading the comments you do mention the importance of using a top tier gas, specifically Shell, which I understand to definitely hava PEA, ie. Techron, as at least a part of it's additive mix, maybe all of it. SO I have a couple of questions: I live out in the country, and do not have close access (like within 20 miles) of any of the fuels considered to be top tier. If I am using non-top tier fuel, do you think that I should be adding a PEA additive, maybe just a bit, when I fill up, or perhaps some Seafoam? the closest top tier station to me is a Phillips 66 stattion. Do you know if they use a PEA additive? And finally, adjacent to this station is a Murphy (Walmart) station, and they offer an additive package mix at the pump. Do you have any idea what this additive is, and if it's any good or not? Thanks.
@RennvisionbyTheKnowledgeGruppe
Our advice is to make the 20 mile trip (which is good exercise for your Porsche) to closest the Shell and use their V-Power Premium 93 product which we've tested to have good repeatable results. Chevron Premium with Techron is also a good choice. We do not recommend using cheap non-TopTier gasoline with these cars. Some people are surprised that we don't recommend buying cheap gasoline along with pouring an additive in the fuel. Your best course of action is making the long trip and getting fuel with the proper formula and concentration of fuel additive from the start.

I lucked into a '99 C2 manual for free. It had been disassembled for an IMS bearing replacement and the owner died. I installed a new IMS bearing despite the old one being perfect, as well as replacing the RMS and AOS. At first I thought the car was dumb, I couldn't understand why people like it. I was driving it very carefully and mellow, it wasn't fun. Then I started driving it more spiritedly, now I get it. Initially I was planning to assemble it and sell it, now I'm having second thoughts because it just runs and drives so magnificently.
@RennvisionbyTheKnowledgeGruppe
We're seeing more and more of the original dual row bearings fail. While your old bearing may seem "perfect", a 25 year old ball bearing will have more rolling resistance over a fresh bearing. Usually bearing failure goes quick without warning. Replacing them proactively is the best course of action. And, if you don't want to worry about it, purchase the plain bearing IMS Solution from LN Engineering.

Is the start up noise due to the guides, chains or tensioners wear or failure? Or a combination?
@KCMedia33
@KCMedia33 8 месяцев назад
Tensioners should hold oil pressure with engine off. They go bad and bleed out oil when not in use and cause the rattling on cold start until they see oil pressure again.
