We almost always get some chop down low so Im used to that but I should have compensated for the possibility of that wind gradient. I was trying to land closer than my first flight so I wouldnt have to carry the glider so far. Completely my fault. Thanks for watching!
You're all good - didn't even break a down tube! Happens to pretty much everyone at some point. My .02¢ (I haven't flown since early 2000's, was H4). Flare was weak and non- committal. Even if you have a bit of extra speed a nice strong flare will put you upright and in control. Looks like a beautiful spot, I used to love aero tow flights. Tug you right into a thermal and off you go.
Hello Charles. What happened in the last moment of the flare? Why did you lost your balance? I am asking because something like this happened to me but unfortunately I broke my wrist. 😔
Just as I was rounding out in ground effect I flew through some lift. Probably a small thermal breaking loose. I of course pulled in so as not to climb. I think I failed to account for the added airspeed and thereby flared too early. The left wing apparently had a little more speed and got lifted. From there the glider got ahead of me and slamming the nose down was inevitable. The wind was very fickle all day. I probably should have just put it down on the wheels. Thanks for watching! I hope your incident didnt turn you off from flying...
The very first thing on your mind as soon as you land should be secure you parachute safety and Unhook from the glider. You might thank me one day. Don’t ask me how I know hahaha. Luckily I didn’t damage my glider but far less possible damage if you are not connected when she rolls over. JS Hangintheair I mean hang in there. lol
I get towed by a Dragonfly ultralight airplane and yes I suspect it was a wind gradient but honestly I was trying to land closer to the takeoff point out of sheer laziness and should have come in a bit higher exactly because of what happened. Thanks for watching!
Yes good landing but so much field to take advantage of for safety. You were probably in sink on the backside of the thermal you flew through. I noticed a little turbulence when flying over the LZ closer to the ground. My single surface won’t penetrate well and I have been caught sinking like a rock when pulling in for speed upon landing and sometimes I don’t move out over ground, just come straight down. Not good when not planned. Stay safe and enjoy! Where is location??? Im in Dayton Ohio right now and am flying vicariously with you until I am off grounding lol. Medical reasons. Fellow bird brain.
I would REALLY love to see you do that! Im going Saturday. Come to cotton gin if you can. Even if its just to watch. Also, I really hope you watched the first flight from that day. It was really perfect beginning to end. My favorite landing so far! Way better than almost hitting the grapes and scaring a dude into jumping in the ditch! Lol
@@Charles-Buddy-Close I think you are doing amazing buddy!! I was planning to come out this Saturday was going to call Johnny tomorrow but I came down with this sinus cold… I might have tomorrow postpone it… but I’m still thinking. Ya I could still watch and learn. What time do you plan to be there?
Thank you! I always mean to edit in some music but never get around to it. I use youtube more as a logbook than a channel. Thank you so much for watching!
