Hey Tony, cool video! May I ask how long you've been climbing? Because I started about 6 months ago and I'm still kinda new to it all. I do love it more and more as I keep going, even though I'm not great at it. What grades would you say you usually climb?
I have been climbing for the last 4 years but I have taken 3 long breaks in between that time. I felt the exact same way as you when I also first started climbing. At this point I think I can confidently climb V2s most V3s and about half of the V4s.
@@TonyClimbs Thank you. I climbed the short orange upstairs by the water bottle shelves, and got about halfway through the black with the hemispherical volumes in the dungeon before my foot slipped, so progress is being made.
I climb at SBP pretty regularly, and generally if there are no top markers the top of the wall is the finish. the blue problem you started also finishes at the top of the wall, so i would guess the end sequences are similar. Nice climbs!😊
Sorry you weren't happy with session. Not sure if it was open when you went, but at least when I was there yesterday they had re-opened the northwest room (I think maybe you called it the dungeon before?) and have a whole new set there including a pretty soft black climb.
I got randomly shown this channel by youtube and I just wanna say thanks for posting these - they've kind of surprisingly helped me cooldown about my own progress these past months. The V3-4 challenge spike feels real over here in London 😅
it's a shame they haven't switched up a lot at sbp. but If you've gone down into the more traditional gym part, they've been working hard on that back room that used to be VIP only. and I've heard it's almost ready to open back up 👀
Nice job trying that black and feeling good about it dude! It's such a bummer to be shutdown by a starting move, but occasionally they're actually the hardest move. Even if that starting move keeps shutting you down, try the rest of the moves! Can be a huge confidence booster.
Awesome climbing dude! I'm gonna go for a session tomorrow at my gym and this got me pumped! Loving the pic-previews, really cool to see you trying harder and harder stuff. My approach to new harder climbs that I can't do in the first few attempts is to really think about what I'm missing (its usually toe/heel hooks for me XD), but the idea is you're thinking about what the climb is trying to 'teach' you, then once you figure it out it becomes a really interesting challenge of actually doing it lol. Great to see you on the wall so often, keep it up!
I'm glad you are enjoying the content and its getting you hyped to climb! Also thank you for the thoughts on how to think about climbs this will definitely shift my thinking going forward.
Nice session! I’d personally want to finish climbs without using the poles, but I’d for sure ask staff at the gym if the setters intend for them to be on or off!
Sorry about the tear :( Also sorry about the black climb not working out. The first move is definitely the most physically difficult in that climb. Followed by the second move. I had started with hands reversed and then went up with the left. I'm sort of biased toward front-loaded difficulty though since I'm old and it allows me to fail without injuring myself. I actually tend to spend about half my session on the first couple moves of climbs I know I can't do for that reason.
Haven't tried it, myself, (and only spraying since you mentioned commenting about it) but everyone I've seen do your black project has done a sort of swing and hop with the right foot going around and the left foot ending up basically where their right foot used to be. Also, the black climb that's to the left of the purple one you did in the corner upstairs on the north wall felt easier to me than the orange one that you flashed downstairs. May want to give it a shot :)
Yeah I was also thinking of the same black one in terms of it being easier! For this black one I've also seen someone step through to the next hold with their left leg but you need to be quick in moving your right foot after because you'll lose your foot grip (seemed more difficult honestly). If you're flexible/having longer legs/can do the splits then...the method that worked for me is shifting weight to your left leg (this sounds counter intuitive but pushing off the hold where your right hand is helps a bit if needed) and then lift + bump your right foot over to that next foot hold it's going to be a biiiig stretch. Then basically using your hands to get your left foot over to match your right etc. I feel like the black climb is definitely a coordinated jump move like Richard described and it is difficult for sure. You got this!
I was well enough to climb yesterday. Slowly getting my conditioning back with a high volume of low difficulty boulders. I have no idea about the black boulder
Glad to see you’re back in action! Would love to see you try some more blacks and even blues, even if you can’t complete them. Maybe pick a hard project and at some point release a video just of your attempts on it over a week or so? Enjoy watching you climb!
I will definitely start to do more black climbs I want to push my self more! I can try a blue climb here or there but I dont think I would find it too fun to make it a project.
Awesome with the photos! Checked out a few of your earlier vids and wow you're improving so much! So strong and technique is great! I hope you're saving all that data for a cool graph of your progress I'm always terrified of the climbs when I gotta climb over the top, I'm always paranoid like I'm about to fall off/slip so I tend to hang on for dear life XD (no falls yet, hopefully never). Seeing you do them is hella inspiring <3
great vids man keep it up, i really enjoy this rlly chill content. agree with the guy asking for a pic of the boulder before you climb it, just for reference, but other than that absolutely love what you're doing
Randomly found your vids, I think you've hit a very nice and relaxing style that I really appreciate, no bs, just climbing Only thing I could ask for is if we could see a photo of the route before you climb just for some extra reference, otherwise keep it up! <3
