His beginning setup looks great. Keep him there
@industrialpalletworx3548
@industrialpalletworx3548 6 дней назад
You actually have all of that backwards. First draw a straight line from arm pit to toes. Your knees should intersect that line. Standing taller straightens your knees too much. Weight more in the heals takes away your ground pushing force. It's easier to push up out of the ground from the ball of your foot. Setup wise. Find a tour pro of similar height and measure angles comparing you to them. I found I was too tall which predisposed me to early extension and getting steep in the downswing. A bit more flex in the knees and angle of more torso put me in a more powerful position. The benefits were less pressure on my lower back, better ball flight and more power. I was cruising at 90+ mph clubhead speed with a 9 iron.

I been using painters tape works great! Do you have any tip or drills how to hit a hybrid? Everyone says hit it just like an iron just forward of center in my stance. My 5 iron is great my 4 hybrid just stays low and not getting the correct distance.
@ChasingTheTour
@ChasingTheTour 8 дней назад
Painters tape is a great tip. Thanks for adding that. I know Bryson put out a video with that but haven't tried it yet. There is some truth in hitting down on a hybrid, but it sounds like you are hitting down too much on it. I don't think about hitting down on it as much as a sweep with the ball closer to the front foot. The difference is my setup to the ball like an iron vs. hitting it off a tee.

Vid was enjoyable! I always watch all of your videos to the end. They're fun. I love the positive attitude, even though at times it seems delusional that you think your scores will quickly improve 10 strokes. I have a question though. If these had been USGA competitions and you had put up all the scores in the 80s and 90s you've put up in these events, they would have already sent you the notorious letter telling you that you aren't welcome to sign up for any more events and that you should work on your game and improve. Do you get in any trouble for continually putting up scores in the high 80s on the STPGA or do they keep letting you sign up for events?
@ChasingTheTour
@ChasingTheTour Месяц назад
hahaha. I love being delusional. It keeps me grounded. lol I mean, I did improve 10 strokes between. Now to do that on both nines. As for the USGA, they do not sanction any of the tours I play on. They use the USGA rules for the tournaments, but are not directly sanctioned. As for the STPGA, it like the PGA and US Open. Rules are utilized, but sanctioned by the PGA. If you enter as a pro, they don't validate handicaps. In this tournament, I did tie for 27th of 35 not including WDs. The Fairway Tour and iTour are handicap based so my scores aren't an issue. All tours are happy to take my money. Thanks for watching my entertaining videos.

Hey! I watched another video on stack as I’m chasing 180 ball speed at age 53. Currently 112 after doing 8 weeks so I was looking for other over 50 golfers. I’m a 2.4 cap, here’s my .02.. you bounced back from a nightmare front 9 and broke 40! That’s awesome and really if you can do that on both sides you will also have the ability to shoot par, it’s that close depending how many gir you have and if the putter is hot. Did you have any 3 putts? Any birdies? Was it the tee shots that ob that hurt the most? Was the driver a two way miss? I bet if you had a caddie so you didn’t get over analytical, probably avoid the doubles., How many flags did you aim at? I don’t aim at any at my level unless I’m using 110 or less out, and only if my miss pull still keeps in on the green. Anyway curious about what happened off the tee? Bad swings or bad aim too close to ob? How many gir and near gir within 10 yds did you have? Hopefully I can help as your stack videos helped me. Cheers

Hey John. Thanks for watching and leaving a message. I have said that I feel like I'm close to things flipping in my game. That round I really struggled reading the rolled greens. It was my worst putting round in the last two seasons with a -6.1 strokes gained including five 3 putts. I lost 5 strokes to penalities between bad tee shots and bad approaches. It was a two way miss with the driver after one bad drive I started steering it. Back side was better after I calmed down and trusted the driver. The only time I went at a flag was when it was tucked on the left and i would aim at the center with a draw. My GIR was 42% with left at 15%, right at 5%, long 16% and short 21%. It's a little better than average. Next tournament round I'll include the review of my game. I'm so glad the Stack video helped. I back the Stack stronger than anything else. Great guys to work with as well. Thanks again for the comments.

You have repeatedly said how hard you work. And that is great!! Very commendable. Most don't practice. However, and this is a monstrous caveat to it. If your technique is not good. No amount of practice will make you better. You must improve your technique to improve your game. Otherwise you will hit a wall or ceiling that you can't overcome. It's that simple.
@ChasingTheTour
@ChasingTheTour Месяц назад
That's what I'm doing. I utilize both online and local pros.
@industrialpalletworx3548
@industrialpalletworx3548 Месяц назад
You're persistence is so infectious. Man have I been there. Something I would recommend you pay attention to is intent. Watch some videos of pros with their caddies talking through shots. They come up with a yardage to the hole after figuring wind and elevation, cover yardage (minimum carry), max distance, danger distances, places you don't want to miss it. All in a short time frame. They then end up with their number they want to land the ball. Then it's what club gets us there? Is it a hard whatever with a draw (because the draw goes slightly further) or a soft cut whatever (cut goes fractionally shorter). All of it boils down to intent. I think the bit your missing. Is intent. I think your thought process is "I've practiced enough to know my swing relatively consistently produces x shape." While that may be true to a point. When under pressure our minds make us do different things. Especially when we have an outcome we don't like on a particular shot. With intent we are able to refocus our mind on what we want to do. It keeps the mind from wandering in my opinion. I think you need to vocalize it. I'm intending on "X" shape and I'm going to hit this number here. I saw my scores start to plummet when I attached intent vocally with a specific number and location. I'm starting it here with a touch of draw. Intentionally hitting draws on every shot (except for Driver) really dropped my score. I prefer to hit a cut with the driver. It's easier to control. I also think practicing as such on the range helps a ton. Meaning I went to the range and tried to hit every shot as a draw. Everyone of them. If it wasn't a draw it wasn't successful. I think it's narrowing the focus. I also read and saw a majority of tour pros hit a cut with their driver. Why? It's much easier. They move the ball forward in their stance. Now they catch the ball later in the arc when the clubhead has started to go left. That gives the left starting point as a right hander. Now it's just face. The face needs to be slightly open to the path and you get a cut. So for me using my "draw" iron swing with a forward ball position with driver gives me a soft fade. Like it's easy to swing away and smash it like that. But it all comes down to intent. I see it I say it out loud to myself and try to execute. It narrows my focus to the target with a very specific shot shape. I actually got my neighbor to shoot his lowest ever by giving him yardages and telling him to specifically hit it at a number. Forget about just hitting the green. We want to aim small. Aim small miss small. Just my .02 cents. Keep grinding!!!
@industrialpalletworx3548
@industrialpalletworx3548 Месяц назад
I know we have all heard the stories from pros of use the swing you brought today. Meaning the shape. I get it. I have and I have had some success like that. Other times not so much. Intent changed that for me. Whether I execute it or not it doesn't matter. My intent is the same. This is why Tiger has said in the past he only hit a few shots a tournament they exact way he wanted. Since he aimed so small his misses were small.

I love hearing the discussions between caddies and pros. My best rounds have been when someone talked through distances and all I did was see the shot and hit it. I think I need to just play more. I am working on a deal with a local course so I can play at least 2 times a week. I just need to get to where I'm scoring with whatever I bring. I'm not quite to the point of controlling the ball flight consistently. Right now I'm leaning more toward a straight flight with a driver fading. Totally opposite of what it used to be. I like the idea of doing the conversation of pro/caddie out loud and just hitting the ball.

Too many details, Jeff. Setup alignment sticks with feet alignment and a second stick intersecting ball position. Tee up every ball and just let him hit it. Don't worry about this or that. The grip. The right-hand thumb should be off to the side, and the right index finger should form a "trigger finger. His brain will naturally start to sort out some things in order to hit the ball. That's when you want to start correcting things. Also, let him swing as hard as he wants to. Developing speed now will be huge in a year or 2.

I like this but at the same time I don't. I think it's great for practice. For playing not so much. Personally, I prefer to just think about the target and the shot at hand. For putting, I don't want to be thinking about a position for my backswing. Only the break of the putt and putting a good roll on the ball. I think for practice you could develop speed control utilizing this thought. For a new place I'll hit 40 footers. I usually can dial in my speed fairly quickly off of that.

Helps with judging how far you want to carry your shot then see the release. This is for high flop style shots. If you do a bump and run, then set the tees 15', 10' and 5'. Golf is game of strategy similar to chess. That strategy can only be executed properly when we have predictability. Without having some level of predictability we can't possibly expect a certain outcome. Practicing is an effort put forth to develop a level of predictability in our ball flight. When you break the game down to the core tenets of what we are trying to achieve it really isn't that hard. When we watch the best players in the world, generally speaking the players who really have it going are the ones broadcast, outside of the most popular players. With that in mind we don't see the 70 or so players who miss the cut every week unless they do something spectacular. Even the really popular players will no longer be featured in the broadcast if they are playing mediocre and will miss the cut. We as average Joes have been programmed to believe that perfection is attainable, because of the media coverage. When in reality it's not even close. There's nothing wrong with shooting 75 or 85 or 95. They are just numbers. There's no one way to swing or hit a ball. Predictability is what we are after. Being able to predict where the ball is going to go and what distance allows any player to execute a strategy. Making 18 birdies is a wishful dream. When in reality making 18 pars is a more attainable goal. Making a par isn't that difficult when were in position. It's when we get out of position that it gets really hard. And those are the moments when we have to not get greedy and accept the potential higher outcome. The bad shot isn't necessarily a bad shot if we were able to predict it. Meaning just because you hit a big banana slice or hook doesn't mean it's a bad shot. It's only a bad shot when it doesn't go where we predicted or intended the shot to go. South African Bobby Locke hooked everything, not a draw or slight straight ball, but a hook, even with his putter. He aimed 50 yards right and hooked it. Lee Trevino hit a big fade on everything. Predictable. Generally players get into trouble when we go against the grain. Trying to hit a draw with a slice swing or vice versa. Accept what you have, play what you have and you will keep the ball in play. Just because we saw (insert any pro you wants name here) shape the ball both ways and shoot 10 under doesn't mean everyone else did too. We saw them at the height of their powers. And that does happen for some more often than others. But, those that are consistently near the top don't do it with super low rounds. They do it with consistency. Take 1 side of the course out of play, make pars on the holes that don't favor your shape and try to take advantage of the rest when you can. In reality 9 holes are actual birdie holes with maybe 4-5 of those being real opportunities at most. My apologies for the lengthy dissertation on predictability. I needed to get that off of my plate as a reminder of what I'm trying to accomplish playing the game I love so much. I shot 78 yesterday while making some real head scratching mistakes. Easily should have been at most 1 or 2 over par when in reality it could have been a couple under.

@@ChasingTheTour I've honestly considered writing a book. I even went so far as to start writing one, well I put some ideas down anyway. The issues I come back too are quite simple. I'm not a touring pro nor have I ever been one, so that could lead to some credibility questions or concerns. I don't have any name value because of the prior remark. I'm not a PGA Professional with any kind of status, Class A member being the top one. I've read a lot of books on the subject and I do feel like I have a ton of knowledge with it. I'm also an outside the box thinker. Some of these ideas I come up with on my own through observations. I never stop yearning to learn. Something of a revelation for me has been walking away from playing regularly. For a stretch, as crazy as it sounds, I tried to open a motorcycle custom shop. I had a few Instagram pages with a total of somewhere around 60k followers. By diving head first into that world it really opened up my imagination. I'm an electrician by trade and taught myself to weld and fabricate. I designed a modular motorcycle frame and a liquid cooled framed to eliminate the need for a radiator. I'm an artist at times. I've done colored pencil drawings and black and white pencil. I do metal art and make steampunk lamps too. I quit the motorcycle stuff because everyone wanted everything for nothing. Literally turned off my Instagram pages when I'm sure at the time I could've sold them for a pretty good price. I had lots of potential page sponsors lining up too. I had a guy making custom exhausts for me, another guy doing seats, I was doing handlebars and was going to get into forks and frames. It came down to I'm not much of a people person when it comes to being paid for a service. I had a guy I was giving golf lessons to ask me once if he and his brother could do lessons at the same time like a group lesson. I said sure. We did it and then they proceeded to split the hourly rate in half and pay me that. I should have agreed to a reduced rate for both but higher than the normal rate. I never gave another lesson. Only tips, because people don't practice. They want to get better, but without the work. They want a magic pill or something to turn them into Tiger or something. It doesn't work that way. The other part of it is people want to buy some gimmick or device to make them better. When in reality 90-95% of devices don't really do anything. Most of the time they just cover up the root cause. We have to take lessons and get a real objective opinion of our swing and practice those things that are prescribed by our coach. Otherwise we're just wasting time on things we think we should work on. I get it though. I have devices that I think should help me. Some help. I have a swing jacket that Peter Jacobson used to push. It was prescribed to me to shorten my swing and correct a reverse pivot. Now years later I will use it every now and then to reinforce what I'm doing. Maybe one day I'll finish that book. Maybe more than one. I want to share my failures with others, because I know I'm not the only one. The media loves to celebrate the sacrifice and hard work of the greats. Those wins and sacrifices are built on my back and my failures. They had to beat people like me to get to where they are. They were successful and I wasn't. Not because of they out worked me or anything like that. Just because the putts fell or a few bounces went their way. People like me aren't celebrated simply because we failed.

I'm a far different player today than I was back then. While I would literally hit it over everything back then and get up and down on occasion. The problem was I could go really low or really high. I never knew what I was going to get. Now every part of my game is better except I don't hit it as far. I don't know if I ever will either as my body doesn't like speed training. Specifically my lower back. That's ok too. I will say while my journey isn't over. Not yet.

All great tips. Just to add to it. If you lower the handle more you can hit it more straight up and down and swing harder. Also if you take your hands and wrists out of it almost straight arm it like Jason Day or Steve Stricker. It will go high and carry forward with a lot of spin. Play around with it. I like to use a 45* angle between my feet line and the clubface aiming line. The ball will generally come out in the middle of that angle.

Shot shape. Mentally play the course on the range. And work on those difficult shapes and specific shots you will face. Similar to the guys preparing for the Masters. They will specifically work on the tee shot for 13. Where they want to hit a slinging hook.

Good addition!! For me it's about club when it comes to shape. My driver fades and my 3wood draws. I'm not at the level of shaping it yet unless it's a severe movement around trees.
@industrialpalletworx3548
@industrialpalletworx3548 2 месяца назад
@@ChasingTheTour both of those are exactly what you should have. The driver should fade because it's teed up forward in the stance, so you catch the ball later in the swing arc. The 3 wood is easier to draw because most people hit slightly down on it and the ball position is closer to centered so you hit it earlier in the swing arc.

At the 19:42 mark this is a prime example of a reverse weight shift. You're lifting the club with your arms and extending your spine towards the target in an effort to create turn. I bet your lower back was sore after the round. Your lead shoulder must go into the airspace your trail shoulder vacates on the back swing. With that reverse weight shift I bet you can get into a groove on the range where you hit it pretty good. Your body is able to duplicate those positions because of the rhythm from hitting shot after shot. But in competition you can't because there's too much time between shots. Believe me I've lived in that spot for years. Your going to have to spend some time working on getting that corrected. Otherwise your headed for back trouble. Believe me on that too. Where I have it paused you can see your spine creating an almost "S" shape to it. I would bet this is where the fat shots are coming from too. Because you're tilted forward as you come down your torso moves backwards in an effort to shallow the club losing all of your angles. And you probably dump the club into the ground. The width is great in your arms. I think this is more of an issue than your early extension in your hips. It could also be a facilitator of the early extension. It shows up in the driver swing at 20:47 too. Seems like your trying to make a bigger swing than what you're physically capable of. At 20:46, left arm parallel to the ground, it looks pretty good. Slightly off the ball more than I would like, but not terrible. At 23:18 driver swing. Right before impact, you can clearly see the early extension of the hips. The right knee is pointed at the ball with the heal way up off the ground. The left hip is still in it's transition position. At this position the trail heal should be just coming off the ground with the hips being open about 20*. Your hips are still square to the target line.

I appreciate the humbleness and the humility involved in playing like that, videoing it, and then posting it. There's a few things I would like to point out. Balance. A lot of shots your falling over and can't keep your finish. Rhythm seemed to be an issue. For me the biggest of them all is intent. Like I focus hard on my number and shape. I want to hit. It's like pre-programming the computer for the shot. When I think cut my mind knows what needs to happen mechanically. I don't have to think about it. Same with a draw. Generally I try to stick with one shape for most of the round also. I know you kept saying one shot at a time, but you were constantly saying well if I can make a par here and follow it up with blah blah. That's getting ahead of yourself. Literally it should be I'm going to hit this shot solid with this shape. Nothing more. Focusing on the number and target really helps me block out everything else. To me, in this video, it looks like you're too close to the ball. It looks like your hands are all but touching your body at address

Learning proper technique and practice. Lot's of practice. I firmly believe that the key to the short game is simply imagine how hard you would have to throw the ball to land where you want it to. That's how hard you should hit it. Nothing more than that. Different shots come from setup adjustments. Altering your setup to produce a desired shot. Ultimately though practice is the most important part of it. Without constant practice to develop your touch and feel you won't improve. Touch and feel are skills that degrade over time without constantly adding to them. Same goes for putting.

@ChasingTheTour coming from personal experience with that exact mentality, you need to remove the phrase "I can't" from your vocabulary. Where there's a will, there's a way. It may not be going to the practice green. Setup a bucket or target in your yard and work on landing the ball where you want. Use a small mat to pitch off of and practice technique while working on landing zones. It helps me immensely

Another drill you can try to keep it straighter is put a small 2x4 on the ground behind the clubhead and push the 2x4 straight back. If it doesn't go fairly straight back you pulled it inside or rolled your hands

Fundamentals of the golf swing are fairly universal across any player. Generally speaking, most teachers and / or training aids try to get you to adhere to this standard model. In my opinion, that isn't necessarily a good idea. In history, there have been plenty of great players taking it inside. John Rahm, Raymond Floyd, Bobby Jones, to name a few. The part you do that I don't recall them doing is rolling your hands open. It's OK to bring inside as long as you don't roll your hands. Another player that I would guess brought it inside is Bobby Locke. I never saw him swing but have read that he hooked everything, including his putts. I say all of that to say that rolling your hands is something not to do. It's a universal fundamental to keep the hands square. I think that's the point of that contraption. You can cheat it, though. If you want to stop from rolling your hands do the opposite as a waggle. Slowly over a few hours it will change.
@ChasingTheTour

There is every kind of swing out there for sure. I think if you swing your swing, regardless of how you do it, if it's based on your physicality you can make it work. Many coaches are training towards a standard move.
@industrialpalletworx3548
@industrialpalletworx3548 3 месяца назад
@@ChasingTheTour It's all about building a repeatable action that produces a consistent ball flight. While I think you have 2 big fundamental flaws. Rolling your hands inside on the backswing which opens the clubface and early extension. I think both of those will contribute to a 2 way miss. With the rolling hands being a bigger issue. I think the early extension part will lead to low back injuries/ problems in the long run, if it doesn't bother you yet. This is where the squatting down in transition would help. I suspect you may not being opening your hips enough either on the backswing. Search up Mike Malaska talking about early extension. He really simplifies what it is, why it happens and with that it makes it a bit easier to correct.

While I appreciate the value of technology. It's tech like this that I feel is something that is not as valuable. I believe proper wrist conditions are a byproduct of a proper swing. Meaning they aren't manufactured. Poor wrist conditions come from trying to square the clubface. More than likely, the body, arms, or hands or some combination of all 3 are not in the proper position to produce proper wrist conditions. It's just my opinion, but I feel it's counterintuitive and not fixing the root cause.
@ChasingTheTour
@ChasingTheTour 3 месяца назад
I like your opinion. I think it's how you use it. I don't use it to fix my swing, but more so help me get the right feel vs. real correct. It helps when I'm adjusting my swing to see the affect it has on my positions.

@@ChasingTheTour I understand that point of view. I fully understand it can be very tough to "feel" if your getting the positions you want. I know I struggle at times with that. The part that I always come back to that helps me anyway. Is launch angle. You have to have proper wrist conditions in order to get low launch wedges. In essence spend a bit of time hitting a sand wedge as low as you possibly can. Ideally if you can measure it mid 20 degrees is ideal. Where you want your standard full sand wedge sub 30 degrees if you can. Like 28-29 is pretty much perfect. You will generate tons of spin and power will feel effortless. That's what I always go for when I feel like it's "off."

Typically if you hit a shot considerably longer than normal, spin is the culprit. Most likely you hit a knuckle ball that acted like a flier. If it was out of the rough then you did hit a flier. The reduction in spin is what causes the ball to go further.
