Hello! My name is Kathryn and I love indie eyeshadow. I've created this RU-vid channel as a way to share my thoughts on products, talk about new releases, showcase different looks, and build community with other makeup lovers! I hope that you enjoy my videos, participate in the comments, and subscribe! Thanks for checking out my channel! :)
A couple of tips that have helped me with depotting without so much time and effort: 1) for the cardboard palettes, I skip Kathryn's first step to remove the outer layer and peeling off the paper. Instead I take an Xacto knife or a box cutter and score all the way around the edge at approximately the middle of the thicker part. I then peel up just enough paper to get the cardboard layers to start separating. Next I use that same blade to gently pry the cardboard straight up all the way around the palette. Eventually, I can pull it straight off without damaging the shadows. From there, I can go straight into cutting through the glue under the eyeshadow pans to remove them. Takes about 5-10 minutes now that I've gotten the hang of it. 2) I hate the plastic ones... But I have a somewhat decent solution for those that avoids having to melt all of them. I like to take my drill gun with a drill bit and carefully drill through the back of the plastic to create a hole under each shadow. If you don't press hard, it won't go through the metal pan or damage the eyeshadows. For some palettes (depending on the glue), I can then just push the pans out gently one by one. If that doesn't work, I can usually heat them up on an electric stove burner (preferably portable and used outside) at a very low heat and they will then push right out using those holes. You don't usually even need to melt the plastic, just soften the glue.
What do you think of Adriana Nichole Cosmetics that’s been going viral on TikTok? I’m looking for dupes of those. $12 for an extremely tiny single eyeshadow is a lot.
I love this!! Shopping your stash and trying to dupe collections is so fun already but I love this idea of creating your custom collection for the season! 😍
Hi Kathrine! I'm a big fan of ur shiny sparkly multichromes! Since Looxi is, I'm not sure where, can u give some other dupes for Angel wings, that have the same sparkle? I was going to order a back up & found thier not there!! I know ur busy but would really appreciate!! TY❤
I enjoyed this so much! I miss your videos! I also bought that Sassy Sauce thermal from PPU and it is amazing! I also just tried Cupcake during their recent sale and I’m very impressed. They shipped so fast and I am wearing one of the polishes I ordered (Mr. Mint, the sparkliest hot pink ever) and it is wearing so well on me. I want Waltz of the Flowers and that Bluebird looks like the coral I have been searching for but not able to find yet. ❤️
I love this type of content so much!! I'm always putting together little collections for different seasons and holidays, and it's always so much fun. I'll usually do makeup, scents, nail polish, accessories, and even books and films. I just love a theme! Haha ...Thanks for sharing, Kathryn! I hope you do more videos like this. 😄💜🌻🦋✨ P.S. Menagerie is doing singles again!! It's so freaking exciting! They don't have a huge amount available yet, but I'm hoping if they do well they'll start adding more shades. 🤞🏻🤞🏻
If you have nail damage try nailtiques formula 2 to help. I used acrylics for years and now my natural nails look great! And I’m so sad about looxi,I have over 100 of their shades. They had some real gems 😢
I do an BYOP every 2 weeks and i love to rotate throught my collection so much ! I've heard about Looxi and i think it was inevitabile for the brand , they didn't keep up and from a business perspective you can't survive with only 2 $ shades!
Yes they didn’t have the best business practices, but to not fulfill folks orders is completely unacceptable! Beyond disappointed in this ending instead of doing it the right way.
The only UK based brand I’ve tried is Pastel Roses UK. I’ve enjoyed my order, but folks who ordered in the past have had issues with quick expiration. I hope this helps!
Hey everyone! Can anyone tell me if it's normal for an order to take over 2 months and counting to get? I've tried to reach out to Looxi but they've been unresponsive. 🤔🙄
@@kathrynbbeauty Thanks for the reply! I had to do a chargeback with my credit card company. I also noticed their website is gone. Not sure if they went out of business? Or maybe they're re-designing their website? Or who knows what the heck is going on? But I noticed a lot of complaints on Reddit from other consumers as well.
My friend Cecily posted about the website being down and I’m so disappointed! To disappear without communicating with customers first is a bad way to conduct business!
Thank you for this video! I ordered some singles from Pretties a couple weeks ago. Their swatches are very blurry to me and their descriptions don’t always seem to match what I’m seeing in the swatches. I love about 75% of my order, and I did place the order knowing was going based off of vibes😂
This is completely off topic and not about PFYF and your beautiful shadows, but I'm so frustrated I wanted to make sure you were aware of what's going on with Looxi. Looxi has reformulated a ton of their shadows. I wouldn't say anything if it wasn't a huge change but it's ridiculous at this point. They are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from what you purchased. I purchased Goody Goody Gumdrop and Glitz and Ritz based on your recommendation and it looks NOTHING like what your swatch videos show as well as Hannah's. I even accidentally bought a duplicate of Jawbreaker and it's laughable how different the new formula is, it's not even the same shade, it's like I had two different eyeshadows on my eyes. Old swatches are no longer reliable unfortunately it seems they're completely changing their eyeshadows formula, and sacrificing the uniqueness they once had and amazing quality that once existed. I'm so incredibly disappointed. I completely wasted my money. The shadows are dry, thin, and one dimensional. No sparkles or shifts at all. The shades aren't even the same. If I had known they were going to reformulate and completely change the formulas of their past shadows I wouldn't have bothered. I feel scammed. They should have said, "Hey we changed our formulas and some shadows aren't the same as they used to be. Buy at their own discretion," but nope they don't even bother to answer emails. I feel SCAMMED. Only spending my coin on PFYF from now on, they're transparent with their customers even as a small business and come out with such amazing eyeshadows at the same affordable price as Looxi.
Omg I’m so sorry to hear about your Looxi experience! I saw that they are changing to a factory formula and I’m so sad to hear that the quality has dropped so much! I still need to do a video on the most recent shadows I picked up because I have thoughts!
Thanks for all of your swatches - very helpful!! You mentioned briefly in your video that you’re not supporting Terra Moons atm and I’m curious as to why? Sorry if you mentioned the reason in another video and I missed it, but since the reason may impact whether or not I make future TM purchases, I’d really appreciate knowing (and I’d imagine other viewers may be curious as well). Thanks again for all your awesome content!!
Ah yes, I have a video on this that mostly remains true to why I don’t support! I know a lot of people accepted their apology though and that’s fine, too!
I shattered my most Pretties for your face shades ,my palette fall of the ground but i do like most of their shades considering prices ! I would say for a beginner is a good start, of course some of their formulas are very dry so i would recommend glitter primer !
For recommendations and information on other shades: they have a purple in that big golden glitter formula that I love (formula like thankful), and it is called Nightshade. I know you don't really like blues but Glacier and Nitro are pretty amazingly unique and shifty, both I highly recommend. Ohm is a denim blue that somewhat goes a bit golden with a pink micro sparkle and is the more classic metallic formula. Another really unique color is frog fae which is a teal/emerald satin (almost like Mobi in texture) but I must warn that it is one of the worst with staining. Oberon is one of the really dark base shadows with flakey bronzy gold flakes on top. Supernova has a very very similar blue sparkle as Monet but has a grayish/neutral/purple-y base. I don't really know if you need both. Noel has a similar formula to elves with its goldish shimmer but in a very primary grey which isn't my personal preference but is pretty interesting. Also, I have Rogue Fey (one of the holo megachromes), and I much prefer the regular megachrome formula as I feel like the holo almost takes away from the shift and texture. Sorry for the long read but lastly, I know everyone does eyeshadow differently but I swear by applying PFYF shadows after wetting your lid/applicator with water or setting spray as they will go on so smoothly! I actually got the idea from learning that the pat McGrath blitz astral shades (also a dry formula) are meant to be applied wet.
This video makes me sooo happy! As someone on a budget, I have been such a supporter of pretties for your face as one of the only indie brands I could afford to explore. I am so glad you gave them another chance! Also fun fact: baby doll was born out of a makeup playtime where I swatched titan and asteroid next to each other, and how beautifully the pigments combined when I was removing them with micellar water. In my next sale order, I ordered one of the originally 10 dollar shadows (I cant remember which), but I put in the notes requesting instead a mix of the two shades if it was possible. Meg was so nice to fulfill that request, and we both loved the result. After I dmed thanking her, she said she wanted to add it to website and allowed me to name it. As someone who doesn't make content, I felt so flattered to still be credited on the website and listened to in general as a consumer.
Ah that means so much coming from the mother of my favorite shade haha! Baby Doll is amazing!!! It’s amazing to hear the story of how it was created! Meg is so great with customer service and loving on the community!
Oooooo yay! So excited for some Kathryn content! 🤗💜✨ awww yay, ty for the shoutout! I'm so happy you ended up reaching out to Meg. I cannot wait to get your shade Roma! 😍✨ Oh & just so you know, glass coffin is a combo of Tru luv & icicle! So if someone wanted to recreate it...
