I haven't found a use for this yet, but as a speedrunner my gut instincts are "please don't fix this" :P (though I'd understand if you do, although it's minor maybe some casual players could run into this, though it sounds difficult)
@@sbdwolf2394 nah we won’t fix it, I haven’t seen a single person accidentally break their game with this glitch so it stays in the “fun glitch bucket” imo!
Thank you very much! The problem with this setup is that, among the difficulty of manipulating the splash animation from the last fishman, and randomness in whether the tail end of PPU buffer area (which gets jumped to as the first entry point to RAM) contains harmful instructions (seems to be timing-based, haven't traced it back fully, seems complicated), there's also the problem that this setup relies on $530 containing exactly 0x71, which is a memory address that seems to be some property of Simon that will advance by 0x24 for every step he takes. There's a way to reset to 0x01 (thus possibly allowing some some RTA manipulations) which would be to whip in mid-air, but part of this setup involves whipping towards the start of Stage 10 and never whipping or using a subweapon again. So perhaps it might be a good idea to try and use other objects to write the JMP to the credits routine, instead, so that the whip is available for use. Working on it...
On a more serious note, I'm wondering if it might be possible to do a form of cartswap ACE with this (i.e. setting up the necessary values via another game, and then cart-swapping to Castlevania). Since, as you mentioned, Castlevania doesn't use a lot of memory, there are probably a bunch of areas that the game doesn't touch.
Ah yeah, that sounds possible. It also generally seems like, if an area of memory is not used, it's not even initialized. So it probably wouldn't be difficult to retain whatever value you prepared. Good call!
(Bit late on seeing this) A better manip is probably possible, but coincidentally, if you perform this Surf manip and hit the last 2 frames of it, the Sand Continent shop will have a Blizzard TM in it. This would make it a 2-frame window.
Mainly the fact that you can use charge shot for 300%. You can get more overdamage at the end of phase 1, and get more damage in phase 3 as well with it. So that all was indication that this may or may not be possible in 300%.
I accidentally did this while doing all the S ranks, I looked it up to see if it was a personal glitch or I just did a bunch of damage, what causes this, bc it wasn’t mods for me
I fucking knew I got the parry coin without the parry or d boosting once. I just couldn’t remember how. I guess dashing heightens your hit box just a bit or something?
@@-Twotonepony- its probably a frame perfect jump that has a long explanation its the same explanation for why you can sometimes whet stone king dice without parrying on any of the cards
