I learned this technique from watching the greyson vids on my own because I never found a video like this haha. Greyson never shows the finger technique below like 240bpm because that’s what it’s best for so this video being around is great. Currently at like 220 on singles wish me luck with that last 20 bpm lol

excellent video, i've never seen those comping techniques before. incredibly grateful that you've immortalized your knowledge here. to clarify- are you using entirely wrist technique all the way throughout the tempo ranges? is there any conservative finger use, or are they simply for control?
@nickmonticello
@nickmonticello 2 месяца назад
The fingers are mostly for control. I find that I'm able to play the fast threes even if I take my middle, index, and pinky off the stick (although it becomes slightly less controlled). It doesn't matter so much the specifics of how much wrist vs. fingers to use -- what's most important is that you try to make the third stroke the loudest, or slightly crescendo through each stroke. Really fast tempos (300bpm) do require some finger, but no matter what specific finger or wrist technique you use, the main idea for practice is the crescendo/overcompensation idea.

Unbelievable! You demonstrate how proper hand control can achieve rhythmic complexity. Interlimb coordination in pursuit of rhythmic and musical innovation. This is complex and dense work. But the result a march score that is exciting and inspiring. I've begun practicing more finesse in my control of my sticks with more involved limb inter dependency. The resulting solo from this talented gent is a showcase of rich snare solo work while having all the integrity of any more basic and wholesome drum solo work. Some lay persons might see show off, I see maturity and evolution not a style. Show off is the stick tricks and the phrases written to facilitate such visual work. Here though we have only the audible and it's clear to any a musical ear that this is musical maturity at its finest

Yo man ive been wanting to do a video all about down and to the left for a long time... I think it's an amazing display of playing on every part of the groove within a song....back on it, right on it, and playing on top of the groove. Such an underrated album, I like it better than silk degrees honestly. Yo check out the newest Jeff video I've seen ever playng with clarence Carter at age 19, with a young hungate and paich on organ. Cheers brother huge Jeff fan here as well and have been checking youtube since it's existance... In the beginning it felt like Xmas every couple days cus there would be some new deep dive I hadnt heard before. I love the entire Janne Schaeffer record with the entire porcaro fam rhythm section. Check it if you haven't I'm sure you have. Your drum sound sick, then she walked away is incredible.
