If you don't know how to wire correctly. And this is your problem....don't. Let some one who is competent do it for you. There are simply 3 reasons why your car battery drain. Bad and wrong wiring. Head units red wire is NOT BATTERY wire..it's ignition wire. If you connect anything to yellow wire (battery) it will have constant power and drain your battery . RED TO RED! is the answer. Then there 's your battery. If you have an older battery, buy a new one. and last. If you have wired anything else wrong...like dashcam to battery, your battery will also drain. It's not your head unit.....it's YOU
I found a solution for those who are still having this problem or want to use their radio after removing it due to battery drain. What you have to do is bypass the constant wire (yellow) coming from your cars harness. You'll need to connect the red and yellow wire from the radio to the red wire coming from your harness. The radio can't drain your battery if it does have power with the switch off. Bypassing the constant (yellow wire) does this.
Yes, I just found the same issue with my head the yellow wire is drawing around 670 mA which would drain my battery in about 2 to 3 days. All the wiring has been verified. It’s definitely the constant power feed yellow wire that’s causing the problem I checked for settings as mentioned on other sites, the auto sleep can be set up, but I cannot find that setting in the settings menu at this time I’ll probably just put in interfacing really on the auxiliary and interrupt the power to this yellow wire. You can use accomplish this by getting a 12 V DC relay that’s powered by the aux signal and interrupt the power to the yellow wire. It doesn’t help that the clock will not be consistent. I think it’s a poor design, although I like the radio.
I have an Atoto S8 10.1” and I have this extremely frustrating issue where out of the blue every two works or 2 months or sometime in between, the damn thing will completely wipe itself. It just, without prompt, will not only restart itself, but fully factory reset itself which is maddening. It takes a long time to get all the settings correct and the everything where I want it to be, AND SIGN INTO EVERY FREAKING SERVICE, and tune the DSP for my audio system, and setup torque and ON AND ON AND ON. it has pissed me off to no end. ESPECIALLY since ATOTO, Who I contacted about this issue well within the yearlong warranty period, but they asked me to send them a video of this happening. HOW TF DO I SEND A VIDEO OF AN EVENT THAY HAPPENS COMPLETELY RANDOMLY WITH JO WARNING ON NO SCHEDULE? Just record my Atoto screen for 3 months straight til it happens? So I’m waiting for it to happen again, and when it finally does a couple months later m, ATOTO STRAIGHT UP SLAMS THE DOOR IN MY FACE REGARDING THE WARRANTY. I was VERY very disappointed in this customer service. It was CLEAR I was havifn the problem within the warranty period and no matter what I said or did, they basically told me to Fu+* off. The only option that they gave me was to ship it to China, ON MY DIME, where they would see if they could fix it, and if they could they would charge me to fix it. And if not? I GET TO PAY FOR RETURN SHIPPING BACK FROM CHINA! What a really swell deal there ATOTO, you pieces of bum sh+*. Has anyone else out there even had a similar issue ? It’s making me crazy, I’m just going someone figured out something, anything that might be able to help me out. Thanks! And D Fugg atoto, they suck. PS-the woman I was emailing with used Apple as an analogy for warranties. She said “ you know apple has a one year warranty too.” To which I responded, “yes, yes they do. Except there is one MASSIVE difference. I’ve pro😮owned about 22 major apple products, from iPads to iPhones to MacBoo pro’s to M1 Mac mini to ipods, yada yada, and out of those 22 Apple products with a one year warranty? I have had exactly ZERO fail on me. Not one has died. The MASSIVE difference is that I’ve owned 2 major Atoto products, a 10.1” A6 and a 10.1” S8, and out of those two products I’ve had exactly TWO fail on me within the first year of ownership. So apple=0/22 and Atoto=2/2 failing electronics. The S8 I had to pay extra for because they wouldn’t give me my full refund for my A6 that straight up crashed and wouldn’t turn on, to use toward the purchase of an S8. They would only give me the price of a freakin refurbished unit that at that point wss way reduced in price from what I paid. It’s complete garbage.
I have a ATOTO A6 and started to get battery drain from it. I did the same thing and checked everything. I emailed ATOTO and told them everything and they want to blame everything else and not the radio, tried saying if I didn't update it that would cause it, I did update it over a year ago, then I had my wires wrong lol I installed it in 2019 lol
Unfortunately, as an ATOTO A6 owner, it's impossible for me to update anything on the radio. Google Play no longer works on that version of Android. I'm just perplexed because the drain issue didn't start happening until just recently, so I'm pretty sure something inside got fried at some point. At least it wasn't a $1k Alpine or something. I specifically bought mine because I have a Jeep, and between being a convertible and an off-road vehicle, I didn't want to install an expensive unit.
Actually it drains ,but only you can do is to install the switch button in order to turn the unit off while car locked for 2 days . I ve already solved that problem using that method on my atoto head unit
Holy cow my story with my 28 gen 2 standard is exactly the same. Even down to it killing the battery. So much so I couldn't get it to charge. Almost like it ate a few cells in the battery. Ive been in contact with atoto about it. They keep going back and forth with the wiring but the radio is wired correctly per their spec. It will zap a fresh battery in less than 14 hours. It must have a huge draw on it. Way more than what they say. I hope I can get it sorted. The radio never really turns off. Its in fast boot mode no matter what which goes against what the manual says. It states it supposed to turn completely off after a set amount of time. It doesn't though. Only time I ever saw the complete boot up is when I first put power to it.. The radio is awesome and has a tons of features but I'll have to give up on it. I cannot be buying $200 batteries all the time because it is zapping them overnight. And I am not going to put a rigged up switch on it to kill constant power to it. That'd be a huge PIA.
Sending you my feels man. It's stressful AF but try again with the wiring, that was my issue. If your wiring is good it'll switch off after about 2-3 minutes and stop caning your battery. Get a multimeter in the amp setting and put it between the power wire and the source from the car to verify. Don't give up!
@@GoatsCrust I gave up this am. First weekend off in forever and I went to get Breakfast and the brand new battery was flat.. I said the heck with it and I snacked on a granola bar and pulled the S8 out and put my factory unit back in. I'm starting the process to return it for a refund through amazon. I had this thing out a million times checking this and that and then this and that again. Its a great radio. Awesome features but I am done with it. Hopefully I can find something else here shortly.
@@GoatsCrust Hi, thanks for the reply. I've already gone ahead and; ordered and installed the unit. I just ordered the harness based on the shape of the plugs I could see. Turns out the steering control wires are part of it which is good as I thought it'd be separate on the other plugs I couldn't identify. Speaking of which, I've also ordered an adapter for the cable to the glovebox USB port. This will convert the proprietary plug back to a regular USB one which I plan to connect to the Atoto Android Auto/Car Play jack.

The original Atoto S8 standard I had was duff, very flaky with bluetooth crashing and the top menu freezing. However, I got my wiring wrong first time round hence the drain (despite the unit being off)
I don't think you can get NF on it but I'll double check for you. Unfortunately it won't accept my Xiaomi dashcam / incompatible, you have to stick with the Atoto one.
Hi I have the same issue with my Atoto F7 in my Kia Picanto. I installed a switch for the constant power line. So when I park my car turn of the ignition. I wait a few seconds for the head unit to turn off. The lights of the buttons go dark. Then I disconnect it via that switch from my car. It seems that I need a second switch for the yellow wire. Yellow is ignition power. The red wire on the ISO plugs (Europe) is for the constant power to the battery. It is for holding radio stations and System time.
0.5A would take a week to kill the battery...headlights on would take overnight and theyd use 3 to 5 amps.....check amps across each fuse and calculate accordingly. i used to connect my radio's on my antique car fully bypassing the fuse panel and just fusing the power wire i ran from the battery....but it was a high wattage setup (subs etc). it seemed to eat batteries. car should be 12-12.5v when off and up to 15v when running (14.4v is standard...16+ is bad) electrical issues or not, most cars will not hold a charge for 3 weeks of being parked as the factory alarm and computers have a little draw also
My vehicle has a 62 AH battery. Only about 50% of that is usable (going below 50% kills a battery) so that gives me 30 AH give or take. So 30 / 0.5 = 15 Hrs. I did more testing and found that when on standby the unit actually draws 0.70 amps ;-(
the android units dont need the interface on all cars....lots of older car steering wheel controls output a basic 12v signal but different resistances for each button. so it depends on what car you have. the radios can be programmed manually where you hold the button down and tell the radio what you want that button to do. some newer cars actually have a communication of data and some are just more complicated. my toyotas have only needed the 2 wires from the atoto connected (and 1 sent to ground).
You mentioned down below not to synch your contacts with the head unit, why is that? Asking for a friend.... who is also having problems with google maps.
I have the s8 standard also. All my contacts on my phone and saved to google were wiped out as well. Real big bummer!!! 13 years of contacts down the drain.

I've got two more question: - does pinching gesture work in the google maps app in order to zoom in/zoom out? - is mirroring your smartphone's screen working good? Hi there....I would say yes. Having never had an LCD head unit it's a massive improvement to the standard radio/CD/bluetooth radio. Having google maps / AA / google assistance is priceless. Make sure you replace the extra microphone provided though, it barely functions at all. The bluetooth is still glitchy (on start, it connects then disconnects and reconnects 15 seconds later after which it's perfect) On very hot days, it can stop altogether and require a reset but works after that. I think a lot of these China head units are pick of the draw, however their support were very helpful I must say. Pinching does work but make sure you don't sync your contacts with the head unit. In my case Google maps doesn't load any map data but I use AA so it's not an issue. I'd load Sygic or something to use the unit as a stand alone GPS device. I never really saw the point of mirroring my smart phone. It works but I've set Head unit reloaded to start when connected rather than the native mirroring app. Depends on your device though, mines 6' with an AMOLED and looks way better than the head unit. Plus, it's easier to interact with not mirrored. The android auto limitation is easily overcome by loading Head unit reloaded on the head unit.
I did, but I think vanced is a bit broken at the moment! Also, if I'm honest I don't find the screen that great for watching stuff on with the provided matt film. I might try taking that off but the screen scratches incredibly easily.
@@GoatsCrust I bought screen protector a week after and it already had micro scratches and YT Vance works perfectly fine while using Google maps and having music playing the background since regular RU-vid doesn't allow that

Yes! My vehicle has a data bus rather than analogue steering controls so I had to buy a Connects2 adapter. Kind of a pain as I only have 4 buttons (volume, call pick up/hang up and source) but I did it any way.
Deleting Contacts is a known issue (also with the A6s). I don't think there is any fix available yet, but disabling Contact Sync (Settings > Accounts > Google > uncheck 'Contact Sync') will prevent it.
Thanks for the video! I bought the Premium S8, but the mic seems to be the same and the audio quality is AWFUL. Glad to know it's not just me. Time to test against the built-in mic and try an aftermarket option.
Cool! I'll try and do a follow up vid when the mic arrives. To be fair, ATOTO have offered to replace it but I'm not sure if they'd just send me another of the bundled ones.
@@bayercreativeimaging4755 I wonder if you're having any issues with the Bluetooth 1 on the device locking up? What I mean is on mine it seems to gradually take longer and longer to pair. Eventually it fails to pair altogether and I'm forced to do a hardware reset. Worse still it then nukes my contacts when it finally does reconnect to my phone. It's really bad and I may return my unit if there isn't a fix.
@@GoatsCrustBluetooth 1 doesn't lock up on me, but yes it does delete all of my contacts from my phone. I haven't figured out why it does that yet, but my contacts are all in gmail so I've been able to go into gmail from my computer and restore them all. It's done it on three different occasions now, but hasn't happened in about a week. I haven't really paid attention to how long it takes to pair, but I haven't noticed any delays. I've been able to pick up and make calls without issue (albeit with poor mic quality).
It looks like your phone and OBD2 sensor are both paired on the Bluetooth2 adapter and that may be why you're having to reconnect to get the OBD2 sensor working (it's connecting to your phone instead). On my S8 Ultra there's an app with its own interface for Bluetooth1 and I think all of the S8s are the same in this respect. There are actually two icons to launch from ('Bluetooth Music' and 'Bluetooth Phone' or something similar) but they just take you to different tabs in the same app. If you connect your phone there instead and remove it from Bluetooth2 your OBD2 sensor might connect automatically. I have mine configured this way, and I don't leave my OBD2 sensor plugged in but when I attach it, it connects automatically. Did you have any problems getting the wiring harness to latch securely into the head unit?
Thanks! I believe I did try that but I'll certainly give that another go. Mine has the two icons too (app for Bluetooth 1 'ATOTO') whereas Bluetooth 2 is within Settings. Which harness are you using? A or B. I used A and it seemed to take a bit of extra force. Disconnecting it is a bit fiddly and I'm not too keen on tugging the wires to pull it out.
@@GoatsCrust Hmm, I don't know anything about A and B harnesses. The main harness for power, speakers, etc. Is what I'm referring to; I only got one harness with mine. I'm in the States and I'm guessing you're somewhere in Europe, so maybe y'all get two harnesses (12v and 6v?) and we don't..?
Apologies! Didn't realize I'll turn commenting on there. It seems to work just okay as in better than nothing but I haven't tested extensively on calls. I've done some recordings whilst stationary and I'd just say the quality is just okay. The mic being on the left side doesn't help however. Whilst doing 60 I was able to chat with the google assistant fine too - I've ordered a replacement microphone and I plan to test it in a follow up
