Well, you pretty much missed all the nice stuff in Town. The whole north and West side of town full of half million-dollar homes, couple country clubs, city golf course, and a guy with his own 19-hole course. $$ Couple brand new high schools, couple water parks, the flyby of the new downtown didn't do it justice, missed the revived old downtown. Didn't show any of the state-of-the-art baseball, softball, football, and soccer youth complex. Brand new sports facilities for each new high School, largest community college complex in Iowa, massive John Deere plant and on and on. But hey everyone knows we have a NAPA and a Chipotle. lol
I live here, and for people who aren't familiar with the town, we are THE most country place in ALL of the world. SO MUCH SO that if you just drove out the road, you'd see a typical old west cliché happening commonly every place everywhere.
The town where Laura ( Welsh) and George Bush and Jen Bush grew up in. Their Dad, Bush senior, and the town was very conservative and the pioneers in the 1940s started the oil business and where the town became the richest per cap city in America. Jim Hall and Hap Sharp race Chaparral cars were made in Midland. Unfortunately George jr. after becoming Pres turned to RINO and liberal mush. The town started losing its luster in the 2000 era when Exxon and Pennzoil became dirty names to the liberals. But still a good town if you like great restaurants, hunting rattlesnakes and rabbits and joining the tennis or country club. Not much for HS kids to do except play sports ( football against Permian was much like Friday Night TV series) and kiss the good girls who go no further…still small town. If liberals have there way on EV cars and such, forget moving to Midland, as the oil business will dry up and so will Midland.
Do you know what the Navajo people were doing for a thousand years before the white man came? Nothing at all. Pushing goats around the high desert and living exactly as they are now. Which is all fine, but not the white man's fault. The problems they have are cultural. Almost 100% cradle to grave welfare across the whole reservation. Google "Ahern Chinle" and get a real look at tax dollars well spent.
Terminal 1 is the small old airport that was supplanted by the second terminal in the 1980s. The original second terminal was built as a hub for American, and it was subsequently torn down and since rebuilt in the early 2010s. It's by far the larger & busier of the two for both domestic and international flights.
What about the giant Pecan Downtown? Is/was Pecan capital of the world. If you'd gone South just outside of town toward Corpus you'd went by my Great Uncle Bob's and Aunt Bertys old house if it's still there. Used to grow Watermelons right next to the highway. I traded a bunch for gas and breakfast to get back to Corpus. Cool story. Thanks for the memories.
I been to Huntsville to visit the walls prison. But when I visit the front building had a clock almost on top of the roof of the main front building. But that many yrs ago that visit Huntsville.

My wife and I stayed at the manor in 2006. Pretty nifty. This Yankee surely was surprised that the Alamo was so… Small? It seemed like it was an aberration in the midst of all those skyscrapers
Good evening at the Czechstop. Sad about the explosion, I've about worn out the T-shirt I bought when the fire department got decimated. I wonder how many firefighters still have theirs? It's been a while.
