In the years 1960-1970 he came to the laboratory of the firm OIP (optique et instruments de precision) at Ghent ,- Belgium He was there 1 or 2 times per month to control the experiences in fiber optics and laser. I was his secretary then. A great man and we named him the father of te fiber optics.

It is incorrect to state that 'guru did not choose to canonise the musical sound'. The guru's have actually canonised the music, and genres as well - rāgas, as well as singing styles such as ikpadē, dupadē, tipadē, caupadē, paṅcapadē, aśṭpadē, solahē, birhaṛē, etc.!
If everything has 'changed' or inevitably changes, then why even read Gurbāṇī? Why keep the names 'Singh' and 'Kaur'? It is okay to study contemporary music, and even to propagate it. It is not necessary to fire opinions without learning, or tasting, the Gurbāṇī Saṅgīta paramparā. The bearers of the tradition, or Paramparā, of South Asian music, have had total freedom across 'ages' to create new blends, and forms, but then there is learning (aural-oral musical 'literature') to possess a 'reference library', if you may. To totally dismiss the intangible heritage of Gurbāṇī Saṅgīta, and to imply, or judge, that that memory has nothing to contribute to the musician-scholar today, is disappointing and sad. University students and Gurbāṇī Kīrtan enthusiasts here in India have shared this with me as they were shocked by some of the things said/implied. I think the Sikh Foundation needs to balance the conversation in the field so that all voices have an opportunity to share their twopence for the benefit of the Sangat.
