I have loved, loved, loved AJLBS for a few years now. However, I wish they could sign up a permanent bass-vocalist, which they haven't had since Chad Bowen left a couple years ago or so. The lady seen playing bass is good at the bass, but when she joins in vocal harmony her notes are above the melody line that AJ sings, not sounding like the signature AJLBS sound. That probably can't be helped given the natural range of female voices, and the lady bassist sings really well, but it is not that signature AJLBS sound. Compare when they use a male bassist-vocalist.
I'm with you Pete. First introduced to him last year, he was amazing this year, with that White Eagle String Band set at Lamplighter being the highlight of the festival for me. Thanks for upping this.
As they have said before, two California acts who are much familiar with each other. She appears with them quite often. Great music. Really skilled players and fine singers. AJ really cuts that mandolin - of course, she has been playing since before she was a teenager.
I cannot thank the band enough for an absolute gem of a cover and in my humble opinion, better than the original, sorry but this cover is just stunning 🙏❤️🏴
Wowww for AJLBS always amazing presentation of "Faithful." Who is this relatively new bassist? I love his walking (bass notes, that is) ups and downs -- masterful!
This song and arrangement are beautiful. The first time I heard it, the I Love You pause brought tears to my eyes. It has this mystical or magical vibe. AJ Lee is something special.
caught the later show that day and enjoyed everything played, but sorry to have missed this as it's such a wonderful version. Also, noticed that the drummer and I were both wearing Dee's Madison Guild t-shirts that day.
What a wonderful opportunity for participants at Greyfox to be able to get on stage and play with these icons! I wished I lived in that part of the country because if I did, I would most certainly be attending the festival.
