Am glad to come across this wonderful story, just goes to show that merely by chance this particular clematis made its way into commercial production. Fortunate that Josephine had purchased that small clematis plant and it having survived to give her a display of bloom to which she had recognized as something uniquely very different and calling upon Raymond Evison to have a look for himself. The lady has literally been richly rewarded by the royalty payments received to her! Interesting, makes one wonder the origins of the plant before being purchased by Josephine, I guess we'll never know!
Honestly I would kill to get my hands on this beautiful plant. I’m assuming you can’t ship tubers to the UK? I do have one young A. sikokianum but the parents were nowhere near as nice as yours. Stunner!

I just planted a few Hellebores! O'm super excited! BUT!!! After planting one, I noticed that the roots were totally root bound (really badly) and from that 2nd plant on, I cut the root some to prevent it from being root bound... I did not dig up that first one to do the same... Do you think it'll be alright? O ask because I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and have been in tons of pain lately and I know I'll be in a lot of pain if I have to dig it back up. I WILL do it, if I need to. Thanks!
It depends on the type of hellebore. The Helleborus x hybridus types are often thought of as shade plants but they grow the fastest and bloom the most in part sun to part shade. Morning sun is excellent for them with afternoon shade, for instance. Helleborus niger would be best in part sun. The other hybrids like the Gold Collection, Frostkiss Series, Ivory Prince, and the Ice 'n Roses Series prefer full to part sun.
I was at Kingbrae gardens in St Andrews today and saw this artists work. How do I find out more about possibly purchasing one of his sculptures? James in CT.
Lucky you! You have such a good array of hellebores .. The best showcase I have seen so far on youtube. Hope you do some close ups of your stock and it might be a good idea to include your location on the first few frames and last frames. HD would be nice. Good luck with your business.
Thanks for the nice comments. If you're a fan of hellebores you might want to sign up for our Hellebore Alert. Sounds like you're not in Canada but there's good information and lots of nice photos in the Alert. Cheers, Gary
I have ordered several varieties of Allium for my garden, but have been told that I should plant something to cover the stems as they turn brown before the Alliums even bloom.Any suggestions of what would look good with Globemaster, Christophi and Drumsticks?Thank you.
Hi ajfelix67, Sea kale is not commonly eaten but it is edible so you could try it. The culinary kales would probably do fine for you. Also lavender and sage are zone 5 hardy and oregano zone 4 and mints zone 3. We will be starting mail order soon across Canada which you might find interesting. Cheers, Gary
