Problem with assessment is that some fail and they are not coached, companies would be much better off assessing the new driver and then buddy them up for a few weeks with an existing driver, most companies don’t offer jobs to drivers who fail the assessment, it even puts off some experienced drivers from moving job

Been on both ends, assessing drivers and beeing assessed passing it and the leaving the company as it wasn’t for me, just management was from the other planet and saying that there is plenty of different jobs out there so just need to find what you like, change it, juggle it- have fun, if you like driving👊🏻😁
Reaching the brow of the hill at 1:45, why are you doing 50mph when that is far TOO FAST such that you cannot stop well within the distance you can see to be clear? How far ahead of the brow of that hill can you see, you can't see at all beyond the brow of the hill yet you are at the absolute maximum limit for that vehicle going into a blind situation. What if there's a cyclist the other side of the hill going slowly, a pedestrian, an equestrian, a broken down vehicle or a vehicle turning from an entrance? Rule 125 "The speed limit is the absolute maximum and does not mean it is safe to drive at that speed irrespective of conditions." Rule 126 Stopping distances. Drive at a speed that will allow you to stop well within the distance you can see to be clear. This highlights how HGV drivers and other motorists have a lack of understanding regards speed and stopping distances, particularly on A and B roads outside of built up areas! There's a general lack of respect for safety to iother road users including the most vulnerable and why HGV drivers are the worst when it comes to being involved in collisions, all that mass and going too quickly to be able to slow down!

Thanks for the video. I have a question. Ive seeen other videos in which they talk about a mini roundabout. They all say that when going across a mini roundabout that you have to atempt/show that you drive around it by "slighty" stearing around it. If that makes sence. Could you explain a little more about mini roundabouts please.
Got my drivers license at 15 got into trucks at 18, 54 now about 4,000,000 kms under my belt only one accident i was pulling out of a side st and a car tried to undertake me my 2nd trailer went over the bonnet of his car, cab was already going straight on the road i was turning onto had no chance of seeing him, was probably doing 20km/h when i felt trailer grab him. 24 metres 54 tonne, good times.

Wow, this was almost my route to class 2. I was there for the first time in my life more than half way. totterhoe, kesnworth, wipsnade zoo never been here. I hooked the 16:10 curb in the video. my road changed from 37:45 turn right. I continued straight through the center of Dunstable. It's a pity, but I lacked experience, 3 days of driving Hgv maximum of 10 hours on road experience. It's a pity that I missed this video before the exam, greetings to instructor John;) the route is really picturesque, but difficult. You are great Patryk, greetings ;)
Hi Patrick. First of all, thank you very much for your work and your videos are great and very helpful. I followed many test routes, unfortunately today I failed the exam on a route unknown to me. I slightly hit the curb at the mini roundabout in the village of TOTTERNHOE, then the route ran towards Wipsnade Zoo and finally I found myself just before Dunstable where I drove through the entire city center. what do you think about this route combination? @@90ratownik Hi Kamil We have done mock test and published here on that test route, it’s one of the test routes that isn’t used too much due to village complaints
Thanks for the answer, I find that route hard for myself as I was there first time. Totterhoe quite thight, route to wipsnade zoo and I forgot about one more village I was passing through Kensworth. On the end of the road turned left for A5183. Today I retraced the entire route in my car and yesterday I wrote badly about hitting the curb. It was the mini roundabout in west dunstable at the end of totterhoe road before bp station and the road to the zoo. All the best Patrick.
@retroschoolofmotoring1261 could you do one covering this as in as if it was a test? The round abouts were large ones so 3 lanes ones however I did exactly as you did and I I obstructed a car passing me I failed. My current instructors are in it for the money not the actual helping of passing you I feel. So far I've had a total of 12 hours this was 4 hours of reversing lol
I'm struggling I think of keeping trailer in the lane I need as in turning basically. Although I felt it was fine ofc in real life as you have you would straddle for safety of yourself and others but ofc in test it's all about keeping you spending money 😂
Would splitting and blocking lanes at the roundabouts when the lane you need is a suitable size for an HGV not be classed as blocking in general and be a fail?
I’m in the middle of training my c+e and the roundabouts are so busy there never seems a good time to pull out seems like every car has to slow down on the roundabout as there’s not enough time for me to get out of the way how do I get out and not fail my test if it seems impossible to pull out 🤷🏼♂️
@@retroschoolofmotoring1261 I am but it seems to be they going to fast and cars going to fast off junctions after the two blockers and catch up to my trailer
@@thomasyoung1753 normally with two blockers and good timing you should just be able to make it, hopefully you can yourself ok with this soon, let me know if you have same problem after more training and will do something to get it sorted
Good video. Can you do a video on how to spot & avoid low bridges. I know there are road signs which show bridges ahead & their heights but what if I miss the sign?
Such great videos these. Great positivity and makes the viewer excited to learn. Got my first ever course in a few weeks( never driven an HGV before)..doing a traditional route and trying class 2 first.
Is it best to straddle 2 lines on most roundabouts to make space, unless it's a big roundabout and easy to go around it without having to use much space
I’d say straddle only if you have to. Wide roads, dual carriageways etc, you don’t need to unless you are blocking off one of the lanes to make it safer for other road users, this comes with a bit of practice and at some point you will know where to do and when is not necessary. Towns and city centres are where most likely you will split but again not always, Drive safe🤙🏻
In the section where the cars moved on to the pavement to give you space, even though there was enough room, would the examiner fail for that or let it go, because you didn't actually physically cause them to move?
