I love this series so much! Some good ideas that ive not seen before and its inspired me to start making my own mini layout. I'm looking forward to more videos ❤
Noting you are coming from miniature painting I am surprised you left all the mould lines in the buffer stops but the paint job on the sleepers and rail is great. You've done a great job with the Metcalfe tunnel (that comes from your scale modelling experience). Magnetic coupling and uncoupling will improve with experience. Its more difficult in N scale simply because you are dealing with physics: the locos and rolling stock are so much lighter and you don't have the same level of motion control you would have at a larger scale. You would have benefited by using tape to limit ballast where the tunnel was going then fit the tunnel but hey hindsight is a wonderful thing.
After just finding your videos on here I have picked up a few pointers but think I will stay using DC and manual points on my new shunting layout that I'm building. look forward to watching all of the videos in your play list.
I also have an Inglenook layout. Microtrains (US) makes an axle drag spring. This goes on one of your axle points. Gives just enough drag to help. I put one on each car on the layout. Nice layout, and nice realization of what is really required to operate a session on it.
sorely tempted to get a router after watching this you _could_ get almost as good a result using something with a 90° inside angle to guide the router - cut each corner separately and the corners will be radiused by the router bit. not as nice as the tic-tac shaped cutout though
I got a bit irritated with two-axle wagons Inglenooking in N gauge - the tolerances are loose enough the whole wagon can rotate while staying on the rails and put the couplings out of alignment! I'm receiving a pile of 2mm finescale track components and some DG couplings soonish. Will have N-gauge and 2mm finescale Inglenooks side by side on the same board and am hoping to see what difference it makes. Thinking I won't attempt uncoupling magnets though - happy enough with "Hand of God" shunting pole to lift loops and act as an impromptu handbrake for loose wagons!
Good to have another video from you man. I love these Peco kits. They’re so satisfying to build and paint. I think they’re great value although a fiver? Wow good work. I’m like you and paint things separately for the most part. I tend to use a light grey primer spray can to kick things off, just to save me having to put too many top coats on! Enjoyed the video and watching your process
Thanks Johnny that's very kind. It is nice to hear you enjoyed watching. I think next time I would consider a spray primer, as it took an insane number of coats to cover the parts properly with a brush, although part of the appeal of this little build was being able to sit down at my desk and build something from start to finish. Sometimes it is nice to keep things super simple...
@@hedgehoghobbies2836 yeah I agree. It’s sad when it’s over too quick! I like to have few mini projects on the go at once, each at different stages. For that very reason.
@@hedgehoghobbies2836 your channel is doing well and you should upload more often. To grow on RU-vid is not that easy. When I started with my channel was the same really hard but keep uploading I reach the threshold and then start monetise. So keep uploading and you will reach the threshold
Hi A great little wagon kit build, try and do some more they are fun...lol I've done a few of the various Peco ones over the years, they are quite easy, relelitively cheap and fun to make and paint. Don't worry about wonky transfers, we all do that from time to time...lol. Its a good way to build up your rolling stock at not a huge cost these days. Thanks
Yes I enjoyed this one. It is nice to work on something start to finish in one sitting. I enjoy working on the layout itself but it feels like a never ending task. When I think I am close to finishing it I find something else to add on...
The corners do as they do in tv studios. Put a curve , as they do with the floors. Great set up . Me, trying to get started. I did put video on RU-vid but lighting is a tad dark.
Yea, once I had put the box together the thought of radiused corners occurred to me, but once it was all built up with the scenery I couldn't think of a way to implement it. I had a look for your video but maybe you took it down? Good luck any way with your endeavors.
@hedgehoghobbies2836 I would have taken down. The reason ,I mainly use RU-vid as a way to show friends and family as my phone has limited ability texting video.
Thank you for showing your weathering on your wagons. It was very interesting and informative, I guess you model in N gauge, I have been thinking about changing to N gauge for a long time now. Thank you once again for a great channel and Best wishes from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. 👍🚂
Hi there. No problem, I'm glad you found it informative! Yes, I model in N Gauge, I have made a small shelf layout which you can see towards the end of the video. It is definitely worth a look if you're coming from OO scale... you can fit so much more in the same space!
For large cable spools, you could use a sewing bobbin. These are plastic and about 20mm overall diameter withan 8mm external diameter shaft. You just need disguise the ends to make them look wooden.
Hi there... it is interesting you say that as I originally looked at bobbins. However, for N gauge they are all way too big. The little pieces I made are about 5mm in overall diameter, they're tiny!
I think no driver would want to take out a lorry onto the road with that much dirt on the windscreen. I think you need to remove a lot more of weathering to look realistic.
Omg! This is just brilliant 🤗. My logo is a birthday present this year, arriving in April 2024. I simply can't wait! You have really inspired me. Your layout and detailing are fantastic. Thank You so very much for taking the time to put this content out.
Please don’t apologise for not posting if you have been dealing with things. Your life offline is important so glad you’re doing better. It’s looking great.
Nice to see you back! Great little update, lighting is often over looked, but you covered it nicely. I have often thought of lighting, and will probably use a dimmer to control the light intensity so it can be altered for filming or for home use. All the best Tony.
Thanks Tony! Yes, I think a dimmer switch / potentiometer would have been good for my layout too. Since the making of this video, a pair of the LEDs have blown out so I think I will need to increase the resistance again!
Well, you set the bar high with a clip from one of the best films ever made (with, incidentally, one of the best soundtracks) but you didn't disappoint 😊 Nice to see you back, I think I subscribed shortly after the previous video, but I enjoyed going back through your older ones, lots of good stuff. Sorry it's been a crap year last year, hope life gives you an easier time in 2024. All the best and thanks, very enjoyable update 👍
Thanks very much, glad you like the Sunshine intro! The main theme in that film is one of my favourites... the whole thing has a great atmosphere and all the actors put in a great performance. I particularly like the Captain!
Hi there... I try to feature different engines in my videos where possible. I may do a full collection video in the future. I have toyed with the idea of doing full locomotive reviews but I'd want a dedicated full loop layout to do that.
Hi there, I actually already have a 57xx (but it is in green, I think it is GWR). Unfortunately I don't plan on getting a class 121... I need to stop buying so many engines!
I use my Inglenooks in '00' a lot, no way can I get along with 'N' Have you arranged 'brakes' on your stock ? That tends to be the secret for reliable operation of Kadees. How long is that ? My '00' come out at more, or less 48" Well done on making it fully scenic.
Yea N Gauge is a little fiddly. I haven't made any brakes, although it is something I thought about. My worry was that when pushing a long train the brakes may cause derailments. The layout is about 800mm long, so a fair bit smaller than yours I think.
Agreed about the pond mate, adds a great depth to the visual effect of your scene, the mirror like reflection makes a great aid to the module without making the layout any bigger than it is. Right on! Congradulations, well done!
