I don't get the impression Nikki knows a lot about football. I think she hosted the Brady roast because generally Brady is one of the few players bimbos are aware of because "he's dreamy." So low-hanging fruit like this is no surprise. I mean, the jokes just seemed so forced. Even if you agree with her, it is hard to deny that they were more forced in there than some of Brett Favre's 22 passes that got picked in his lone Jets season.
she didn't host. Kevin Hart did. she was the best roaster on the show. and who gives a shit if doesn't know much about football? neither do half the people who watch the NFL. she's a comedian and she's great at her craft. if you don't like her, oh well. go listen to Christian radio.
First of all, these weren’t funny jokes. Maybe there were more jokes that actually landed and in context these would be funny. You can get away with political jokes if they are really funny and can get the targeted side laughing. These weren’t it.
Did the NFL not realize who Nikki is? Have they not seen her roasting people before? The edgier comics will push the envelope, almost no one or no topic is off limits. And the jokes last night were very tame in comparison to her usual routine. The NFL has only themselves to blame.
20 years ago, ESPN hired Rush Limbaugh as a football commentator, which was a disaster because he, too, was too political. He interjected race science when he said Eagles Donovan McNabb (a black QB) didn’t have the IQ to be a top QB. That was a huge controversy back then.
Problem is we know the NFL fully aligns with Democrat groups trying to register voters. Problem is Rogers wasn't wrong to align with RFK, dude is right about a lot of stuff. Problem is J6ers have been illegally detained , their God given and Constitutional rights denied. Etc etc
I didn't mind the joke too much personally, but it fell flat. It just wasn't funny. Like RFK dropped out a month ago, so he likely already does know, and so the joke feels forced. The January 6th joke is a bit weird too. It sounds like she was trying to make political jokes that were neutral, and because of that, the 2nd is this weird statement which makes an assumption on her leanings which probably upsets both sides.
From hat I've seen, JG9News appears to be center left, so I doubt he hates the joke itself. I think his point is that the political jokes aren't a good idea.
@@big4horry i wasnt talking about him, i was just saying in general people could just ignore it like that. I just watch the game & ignore everything else
Living in Canada, this is sort of a relief because TSN and CTV signed off within a minute of the game's conclusion. Sadly, we subjected to a rerun of Children Ruin Everything (normally it would be Corner Gas) on CTV and Sportscentre with the opposite of Scott Van Pelt (the super-annoying Jay Onrait) on TSN.
I think Nikki Glaser is hilarious, but this is not a good fit. Honestly, the political aspect isn't even near the top of the list on why this didn't work. First, SHE DOESN'T WATCH FOOTBALL. So she's mostly roasting the players' lives, when there may be missed opportunities for more game related jokes. When she did game related jokes they came across flat, like she didn't know why it was funny. Another issue is it seems the directive was "just roast people." Glaser uses a lot of self depricating humor, but you can't really do that much in this format. The roast style also leads to stilted delivery because she's pausing so jokes sink in. Something like this might have worked better on a College Gameday type show where there is a crowd. This seems like someone at an incredibly young sports division said "Hey we need some star power on our show, related to football, who can we get?" "Well that Nikki Glaser did a roast of Tom Brady." Glaser's agent hears that one of the few "water cooler" shows remaining in television wants to have her make apperances. The agent is going to say yes 10 out of 10 times. Amazon is trying to run the show like a legacy media sports division, but they don't know how and don't realize that's a format that is fading anyway. GPS was funnier this morning than Glaser was last night, that's where Amazon needs to be looking, not "who can we get to be our Frank Caliendo, but we'll put in the POST game. Innovation!"
Stand-up comedy is very popular right now and it’s just hilarious that the NFL thinks they can somehow tap into that. I swear to god “roasting” is going to be the new corporate hack trendy segment on shows 🙄 Yes, The Tom Brady roast was very successful and Kill Tony is an incredibly popular show right now. Doesn’t mean we want that everywhere we look
Ugh you're probably right; it sucks because imo roast comedy is the "easiest" (relative to other forms of standup), least interesting type of standup out there.
Ehh I mean the comissioner sold the rights off to Bezos so no matter what he thinks is stated policy, he has to live with the decisions amazon makes. If he doesnt like it they shouldnt sell it to them.
Nikki Glaser is a fantastic comedian, but she's not a good fit with NFL broadcasts. Most NFL fans like bland beer like Budweiser, and bland comedy like Jeff Dunham. And I agree that political jokes (especially in an election year) aren't a good idea.
The NFL has become completely biased, siding with republicans, for 30+ years, since CTE for sure. They are anti-science, they think racism is a lie, and everyone anti-Trump hates the NFL and doesn't watch it. NOOOOW, it has become UNBIASED again. Aaron Rodgers should be called out for being an alt-right, politically backwards moron.
The reality that most people have tuned out the crying of conservatives is why. No sane person cares about their gripes they will move on to the next complaint soon
I dont mind it. The RFK joke was about Rodgers, who was linked to him. Comedy has always been topical. we are talking about a post game show that most people already turned off by then.
