Welcome to The Maker Co! Our goal with this channel is to help you start, grow and scale your Etsy or E-commerce shop with the strategies, successes and even failures we encounter as we grow our shop! We started our Etsy shop just a few years ago with a glowforge, graduated to a few Omtech lasers and graduated again to a Thunder laser. We started our shop with just the two of us working in the evenings after we finished our full time jobs along with raising our two toddlers at the time. We now have 6 employees, an actual location to work from (not our house), and a lot of big plans to scale our shop.
i have a new digital product shop, and i want to upload some holiday christmas and new year designs for cricut/silhouette/glowforge. do you think it's possible for new shops this late in the season to sell SVGs and PNGs to that market of crafters on Etsy? I do not have any budget available for ads at this time.
I don’t think it’s too late! You may be a little late in the game for Christmas but I wouldn’t hesitate to put those up. Definitely get your New Years stuff up quickly. I wouldn’t spend a lot of time designing Christmas at this point but I would get up what you have an move onto Valentine’s Day, St Patricks’s Day and Easter. A lot of shops are launching Valentine’s Day stuff now
this just jogs my memory about benchmarks im trying to reach as a new shop-- really helpful and inspired now to create products ! i have a cricut...i need to just make some stuff and list it!!!
I have my Etsy payout set to daily payouts so I get the money quickly. That’s what I would advise anyone to do but you will have to pay for your POD whenever it ships.
The way I understood it, was that the POD wants to be paid before they make your order (otherwise it is a risk for them to even make the item without payment). This is why, in order for your POD orders to be AUTOMATICALLY accepted and made/drop-shipped by the POD, you need to have your shop have a chargable credit card that the POD can charge as soon as your order hits them. Otherwise, you will have to have the funds available to pay the POD manually before they make your order and ship it out.
Hi Mam I am not used to doing things like this but, i wanted to ask for help, only because I really wanted to have my one store of selling fries and drinks in our community, I only need a dollar and will ask somebody again for a help for a dollar .. hope you will not find this disturbing.. Thank you so much for inspiring us everyday, I am looking forward to watch you , i am not messaging here not to bother you, I am from Philippines I would like to ask for small donation for my small store that i wanted to start, Idont have a job right now and for an honesst reason I really wanted to ask for help.. a small amount will do, I am really sorry to bother you, I just wanted to be honest and ask for small amount of help, to help me continue my small food cart to sell frenchfries and drinks outside our rented house..i have 2 daughters and my income is not enough to pay everything and small amount of help will do to continue my business, becuase my income only goes to bills and rent.. but if not possible to help me it is ok , thank you .
I just ordered my first desktop laser today. A Thunderbolt. The customer service was great! The ladies that helped me were awesome and returned my calls and answered emails. I won’t get my machine until mid December, but I’m patient. Lightburn was part of my package, so I’ll spend my time learning how to use it.
Greetings from the UK new to lasers. I just purchased a Thunder nova 51 130w. I'm in the process of setting it up. Your video on how you both got started was great. Keep growing
I have the Nova 51 and I would recommend getting a towing company to bring it from the dock it makes life way easier What settings are you running to cut 1/2" power/speed the recommended is obviously 90% but I hate running the machine full tilt
Yeah I would definitely recommend a towing company. Getting it in our shop was a nightmare haha. For cutting1/2” birch I’ve been using the 4” head at 10mm/s and 80 or 85% power. Stock Air assist on full blast 👍
I used a few pieces of 2” pvc and rolled it off my trailer into my shop just me and my son. The delivery company used the lift gate and dropped it off onto my trailer.
Thank you so much for the great video I have been going back and forth on whether or not to purchase and I think I'm going to pull the trigger now that I've seen your video.
I heard an Etsy store owner say that, she doesn't show people her shop, because that is how she makes her families income. I will be launching my Etsy business tomorrow, Yay! How do I let people know about it without giving it away? If that makes sense! Please Help!😊
Hey Carol! I definitely think it’s okay to share your shop with friends and family when you are starting. A lot of people don’t share on RU-vid because people try to copy their products but I think it’s fine to share when you are starting. Or some friends and family purchase from you it will definitely help the algorithm!
I just saw your video and felt inspired! My craft is "beading" and is so labor intensive that I'm really nervous about committing jewelry pieces, so I'm thinking about kits or directions of pieces I already have. So, I was reading the comments and was taken aback at the rudeness of some of the comments and wanted you to know that there are people who tune in to your video and see courage, strength and compassion to share. I'm writing this to you to encourage and to know there are people who are benefitting from your videos and methods on finding trending products. Thank you so much.
Hi! Thank you so much! We love to inspire people and we need inspiration ourselves frequently. Kits are a great idea! Also you might consider selling craft pieces like beads in bulk, stink, earring findings etc. I know some people do well with that on Etsy too! Thank you so much for your kind words!
I think printable are a good option! They’re usually priced lower so you do have to sell more to get more $ but it’s a great thing to sell on Etsy and more passive since you don’t have to physically make and fulfill and item. I’ll try to do some videos on digital products as well!
@@themakerco so you didn’t really make 10k. You should be honest. Revenue doesn’t matter to us. You could be in the negative or only take home like $500, we just don’t know. Idk why RU-vidrs tend to talk in terms of revenue. It doesn’t tell us ANYTHING. We have no idea what your products costs at wholesale, what your capital or expenses are. Just be honest.
It is absolutely not our intention to mislead anyone. We show a screenshot that shows revenue so it’s very clear if you watch the video that we are talking about revenue/sales and not profit.
@@themakerco but the title. That’s what is called clickbait. But everyone does it. Not just you. It just would be nice to see a RU-vidr with integrity sometimes. We don’t trust titles anymore. If you started saying “profit” in your titles, that would really make you stand out, and seem like a standup RU-vidr.
❤️ that’s so kind thank you! I know it can be a lot of information and a little overwhelming but hopefully we can help you do things a little quicker than we did!
So glad I found your channel!! Two of my children have special needs (I have 3) and the youngest are five and seven years old. I have tried so hard to have a sewing business. But I can’t seem to find balance between home and work. My husband is out of town for two weeks every month in the oil field. So everything’s on my shoulders when he’s gone. But I have a dream in my heart to have a sewing business. I’ve been very successful selling on Facebook but I get burned out pretty quickly due to a lack of balance between home life and sewing. i’m looking forward to more of your videos! I would like to know at what point you were financially able to hire an employee. Like how much did you have to be bringing in before you decided you could afford that? I’d love a video all about hiring an employee, when you’re ready for that step, etc. That way I can get my goals in order! Thanks for this video. It was really good! Also how do you calculate pricing & shipping/Etsy fees. Thank you!!
Hey Ashley! I completely understand the burnout! I will definitely look to cover some of this stuff for sure! I think if you can even hire someone super part time to help that’s what I did when I started just so they could do one thing while I did another for an hour or so to knock some stuff out. If you can start small like that and try to find someone that’s willing to do an as needed basis (for me it was a college student) it really helps alleviate some pressure but doesn’t cost you too much and I’m that case you just need to know you’re making enough money to cover what you would pay them for their time and for yours. I hope that helps for now but I will definitely try to go a little deeper on these topics too!
May I ask why you don’t want to share your Etsy shop name on RU-vid? I’m considering starting a RU-vid channel & linking it to my Etsy.. so now I’m wondering if that is a mistake! I hadn’t thought of the negative side of it. Would you be willing to share your reasoning? It may help me make a more informed decision. I would really appreciate it!!
Yes absolutely! It seems when people share their Etsy shop name on RU-vid a lot of people go and copy their products almost exactly and copy titles and tags etc. I have personally designed almost all of our items and just can’t bare the thought of people trying to copy my entire shop. 😅 People still copy stuff and that’s just the way it works but I just don’t want to make myself vulnerable to someone coming in and trying to copy exactly everything we are doing especially since this is our family’s sole income. I hope that make sense!
Others also mentioned that there are spikes of traffic comes to your shop but they don't buy, it will give a bad score to your shop, it is indicating to Etsy that people don't like your product hence they don't buy.
Thank you for your sharing. You just gained a subscriber here :) I'm also a new Etsy seller who has barely made a sale ): I'd like to ask how to drop ship embroidered items, like shirt, sweatshirt other stuffs. Im not sure if Printify can do it. Thanks Goodluck on your Etsy shop and youtube channel.
Hey! Thank you so much! I hope we can help you with some Etsy tips and tricks! Unfortunately I’m not sure there is a company that currently drop ships embroidered items but if I find out differently I will let you know!
This was so helpful! I’m a current SAHM to an almost 4 year old and 3 month old. My laser will be delivered next month and I’m SO excited but also SO nervous. Your videos have been so helpful and this one was so encouraging!
Thank you Anna! I won’t say it’s the easiest path but definitely doable if you set your mind to it! It feels good to be able to bring in income and also have a flexible schedule to do what I need and want to do with my kids as well.
Loved the video Rachel! The video of you and Jake growing your Etsy business is also very inspiring. I'd love to get in touch with you regardring a partnership proposall for our Etsy tool called Sale Samurai. Where can I contact you?
Yes! There are so many options with what you can make on a laser. Here are just a few ideas: Home decor signs (tiered tray signs are especially popular, items with “teacher” or teacher sayings for end of the school year, earrings, front door signs. I’ll try to do a little research and see what else I can come up with too!
Hi! If you’re referring to the ornament yes it is not hard to learn to make it! I just bought the file and loaded it into my machine! Do you have a laser machine?
