It makes me wonder how some of these trails get started, someone just points and says lets go that way and keeps going til they hit another fire road ;-) that looked like a real agility test winding thru the trees in places

There is a volunteer group at Gisburn that do trail maintenance and built new trails but I think they are restricted by the FC as to what and where they can build. The off-piste trails I rode have been built by riders and are quite well hidden. I love the names of them. Stick Man, Songs of Praise and Looking For Yan's Burger. A couple I rode, the footage was un-useable, not enough ambient light. The trails were lots of fun but I've got to admit some of it was either at the upper limit of my skills or beyond my skill set. But in my mind, if I don't push my limits I wont improve my riding. And it's easier to ride a difficult trail if you are following someone, that way you at least you know its possible to ride it. And because you are riding deep in the forest if you come off it's a soft landing.😄🤣

Excellent ride. I much prefer the view without all the data flashing. We are out saturday and Sunday over the bank holiday weekend I've got some mates coming up from Boston, it will be a mixed group including a couple of very fit analogue bikers and three plus e bikes depending on who extra turns up , hopefully the ferries back in service 🙂 otherwise it will be a lot more awkward planning to try and avoid road work

@@nutsaboutmints1701 hopefully you will manage to get out. your video does look so much better without the data showing it's interesting for a few seconds then just obscures the field of vision 🙂. we will more than likely be meeting at the ferry as the guys coming up are booked into Ghyll head campsite, Saturday will be very familiar stuff for you, so will most of Sunday will also be familiar trails with maybe a couple you might not have ridden

We had no route planned, my riding buddy rides an analogue bike so I was expecting an easy 15 to 18 miles. Twenty minutes into the ride I realise he's come over to the dark side and riding an ebike, bang goes my easy rides 😂. It was very surprising how quiet it was, considering the good weather .

@@nutsaboutmints1701 lol yes I've ridden with normal riders that come to e bikes. The guy with me and Heath yesterday has just swapped to an e bike and intended keeping his Propain for winter rides but after a few e bike rides he decided the propain wasn't going to get used and has sold it. We've ridden with him before and he's done what we do on our e bikes on his normal bike so now he's finding longer distances and elevations easy

@nutsaboutmints1701
@nutsaboutmints1701 6 месяцев назад
@ashrothwell535. I record the footage on an Insta 360 X3 paired to Insta Bluetooth remote control, ( small square box mounted on the right hand side of the bars). The remote is GPS linked, when linked to the camera it embeds the GPS data in the recording. When re-framing and editing the footage you add the different stats. It's fully customisable, choosing colours, layout, style etc. if you check out the full video of the ride , the very start uses a different layout before switching to this one.

Cracking ride you were flying , I could feel the peer pressure on you to keep up from the first descent on Colthouse which ramped up as you headed to the witches and went into full on race survival mode for you just attempting to keep up with main group especially when the fast guy passed you on moor lane I could feel how close you were to your limits, including the heavy "oof " on harder landing on a drop in the witches, and how much you were riding in turbo, I much prefer a more chilled ride and pick when i want to push and have a play I've not rushed to ride in large fast groups, nice to see you didn't get sucked into the drop on devils tho and the drop on breasty haw. I'm guessing the front of that group will hit everything they can. watching this theres some bloody good fast riders in there. bet you felt it after the ride energy wise. Theres a couple of groups I've ridden with that I don't rush to ride with now as lets say it can get chaotic bordering dangerous at times for some of the very front and also some of the less skilled riders , don't get me wrong its great to push your limits but with me coming from trail riding and racing motorbikes I've ridden with some very fast and often competitive guys and it's easy to reach the limit of my skill levels and don't need any injuries I'm getting too old lol
@nutsaboutmints1701
@nutsaboutmints1701 6 месяцев назад
It's the first time I've ridden with this group. I normally ride with a friend who rides an analogue bike so the pace is nice and chilled. Yesterday was an eye opener, I was bouncing off the speed limiter from the minute we left the ferry. I'm pretty sure some of the bikes were de-restricted. Some of the route I've ridden before but from the three witches up until the very last decent I was riding blind. I have no problem with being the fat lad at the back so I didn't put myself under pressure to keep up, but did I want to press on at times and push myself, I may have pressed on too much on a couple of occasions😂. I don't get out on the bike enough to build my fitness up which is where I struggled a little yesterday. Where I would normally rest and recover wasn't the case on this ride, barring a puncture and one off we were pretty much constantly riding. By the last decent I was struggling with arm pump and tightness in my quads, I know lots of crashes are caused by fatigue so I took it easy. I spent most of the ride in emtb and turbo just to keep up and came back to the car with just 6% battery left. My ride round there three weeks ago was 17.5 miles and 2500ft of climbing, got back to the car with 51% battery left. On the plus side I only had one very slow speed off on Park-A Moor, stopped dead in a very boggy section trying to avoid a deep puddle. I was also pleased that except for some very technical climbing I rode everything and apart from a couple of occasions I felt in control. I just need to grab a map and get up there and explore at a slower pace instead of warp nine.

@@nutsaboutmints1701 I find it faster to turn the motor off on descents, I'm in that group ride group but after watching vids of their rides I'm coming to the conclusion that their rides are a bit too frenetic for me at my age and skill / fitness levels I need something more chilled when i'm riding not a beasting lol hence I chose to go and do Garburn rather than join that ride I'm too old and unfit and lacking skills to ride at that pace for a full ride even tho i could probably do it it's not why I'm riding E mtb for I enjoy the odd fast descent and technical short climbs but jusst really want a steady ride with nice views and get home in one piece tired but not destroyed Like you I tend to get back with plenty of battery left even after 2 to 3000 ft elevation gained and anywhere 20 to 30 miles so i can understand you needing to keep your bike in emtb or turbo to keep up and not slow the group. I have a mate that i ride with who has a restricted bike but seems to ride at 17 to 20mph on the flat easily so i have to turn the bike up to keep up and it really isnt doing anything much other than using battery trying to keep me at 15.7 mph. but hes a seasoned fit mtb rider and they know when i want to rest we rest lol Very Interesting to see a lot of the ride wasn't transfers I would have used to cross grizedale to get to the bridleway out to the park and cottage in the clouds and then to High Parka moor and back into Grizedale to the witches and moor lane followed by breasty haw descent to high dale and then down devils gallop , the final descent is cuckoo brow , very slippy in the wet thats where i opened my knee up about half way down around the point you slowed off while i was out in drizzle, you did well to keep up as you did riding them for the first time, Not sure which of the climbs they took you up to get to breasty haw descent but i guess you came up from satterthwaite and passed a white house on your left as you started the bridleway proper , a few hundred yards up there theres a large step or a chicken line up to the left those guys will have ridden the step, your welcome to shout me up and come out with me and some times my mate Heath as well, I like to rest ...a lot lol you can feel free to descend flat out if you like but I can guarantee it will not be a ride done at the speed of your ride

I know exaclty where it stopped you dead and thats why i didn't try and ride thru it last time, the main thing is dont try and ride thru that main ford on an E bike in fact theres a few deep puddles to avoid rather than ride right thru them on E bikes just be aware on Parka its a byway and you are liable to meet 4x4's or motorbikes it's always a balance of pushing on but ready for extreme avoidance @@nutsaboutmints1701

Indeed, I try to avoid deep puddles at all cost on an E-bike. We passed a load of dirt bikes and a 4x4 having a break and enjoying the view right at the start of the main decent.. Yes it's definitely a fine balance between pushing on and being courteous to other users. If you cross the motorway bridge coming out of Halton straight on at the junction then turn left down blackcastle lane leading you back onto the canal is another off road section or you could go right at the bottom of grimshaw and do the windmills . Just a suggestion for more off road mate.
@nutsaboutmints1701
@nutsaboutmints1701 8 месяцев назад
@jason123803 cheers for the tips fella, after Halton I mostly turn right onto Kellet Ln and turn left onto the bridleway at Westfield Hamlet, at the end of that I turn left again this takes me to the crossroads at Bottomdale Rd and Blackcastle Ln. I've been down Blackcastle Ln a few times, last time I upset some green laners in 4x4's by overtaking them 🤣. The bridleway off Caton moor that runs to the Fenwick Arms is probably the only interesting decent around the Lancaster area. I've recently discovered a fun technical section from the canal bridge at the end of Newton Estate to the concrete lane by Central High. it weaves it's way through tree's and the beck with some Rooty off camber bits for added fun.
