I have been in the model horse industry since the 80's. I have sculpted resins, made tack, painted models, shown in live and photo shows, judged model shows including Breyerfest and NAN and more. I feel it is time to give back, sharing my knowledge with everyone.

Yay! I've wanted a parade set for one of my Saddlebreds for a long time, but couldn't afford to buy one. Now I can make my own, with whatever decorations my heart desires. Now to decide which stallion gets the set, and what color to make. Bay with white and gold? Champagne with green and gold?
YAS !!! this helps me so much for my show string. you've inspired me to take a more proactive approach and for my next show all my models will have a breed card
You got this! Documentation is a huge help when showing. Judges do take that into consideration way more than you might think. I find taking my cards to Business Depot or the like and having them laminated is great to keep them in perfect condition.
This is great! Your steps are very clear and I well appreciate all the effort it took to develop this pattern and tutorial. If you haven't soldered before, it may sound scary, but it is a very useful skill and not that difficult. The main trick to it all is really making sure your pieces are placed together firmly and not counting on the tip of the iron to press the sides together or hold it in place - ie your iron is only used for heating, not for positioning, so that you can apply heat and take it away without any of the pieces moving when you pull it away. Also, irons have different tips and a large tip like you show here is exactly what you want for soldering large items like this. Thank you so much for making this, I'm looking forward to trying it out myself!
Thanks! Look for a dollhouse scale barrel on etsy. Or anyone with a 3d printer can make one. www.etsy.com/listing/810657805/dollhouse-miniature-barrel-small
I don’t like unannounced variations. If they show me a model I like enough to purchase that’s the model I want. It feels like bait & switch when they show one model but you get another that you may or may not like/want. And the variations are not always more valuable, especially on 50/50 splits. When you think you are purchasing one item but instead get an item of lesser value then that is classic bait & switch, which is illegal. People that got stuck with the Barb version of Tassili have a case against Breyer if they ever wanted to pursue it. If Breyer doesn’t want to find itself in trouble with the CPA they’d do well to announce variations & run #’s when the SR’s are revealed, with the exception of the Surprise. Kinda like they did with Dead Heat. Simply say “ This BF exclusive will be a 50/50 mane & tail variation” or “One third of this run will be produced in glossy” & “75 of this model will be a decorator variation”. Then show the models & their variations, so people know going in what the options are & the odds of getting what they want. That’s especially important now that they’ve switched to preference lists for getting BF models. How can people know which models they prefer if they haven’t seen all the options? How many more wouid have put Marzipan or Scurry on their list if they had seen both color options? There’s no need to be so secretive about all the BF models when there’s a Surprise model to keep people excited & guessing & one day its going to get Breyer in trouble.
@@learobinson4450 I still personally love the variation surprises. You can always trade for the other. Someone at the event will trade. Maybe having an option for people who want the original is a good choice. They can state no variation please.
Not everyone goes to the KHP for BF. How can you trade if you’re in Iowa? People that have virtual tickets have to pay postage to ship models in order to trade for the model they thought they were getting in the first place. No one wants to pay an additional money for shipping on top of what they paid to get model. That’s assuming they can find a trade at all. Trading is harder when you’re not there. Plus when there’s variations one is always more desirable so good luck trading when you got the least desirable variation. I know 3 people who couldn’t find trades for that barb Tassili. So they are stuck with a model they never wanted & had to pay secondary market prices to get the Marwari Tassili, which was the one they believed they were purchasing from Breyer. Same with Scurry & Marzipan. One day someone will be pi$$ed off enough to actually file a complaint. My one buddy actually printed off the form from the CPA website & filled it out but ultimately decided not to mail it in. People wouldn’t tolerate this from other companies. What if you ordered white flat shoes from Amazon & they shipped you red stilettos with a note saying “Congratulations! You got a rare variant of the shoes you wanted!” or you bought a new electric oven with 6 glass top burners & a double oven but the deliver truck arrived with a gas stove with 4 burners & one oven? Would you just say “That’s fine. Hook it up”? No, you wouldn’t. You’d be mad. Why does Breyer get a pass for pulling a bait & switch?
And the SR’s are packed in brown bags at the factory in China so how is the warehouse in NJ supposed to know which is the variant if someone says they want the original that was shown?
Super cool Lisa. I saw you on Infinity Breyers.. A couple of Aussie's went over to Breyerfest and been watching their content... Im currently at my first Live show in Hahndorf South Australia our club is having a 30th Anniversary show, and for us Aussie's, its our version of Breyerfest 🥰 Next year the club is planning on celebrating Breyers 75th Anniversary show... Which I'm looking forward too. Very interesting observations lisa. Looking forward to seeing your videos coming up
Thanks so much! I would love to see Australia. I am happy you are getting to celebrate there and have shows. I would love to see some pics - please post some on my facebook group if you are there :-)
You are amazing. I can’t wait to use these and I’m gonna send it to my best friend because it’ll help her with her art. It’s not models but it’s everything else. This can help all artist cosplayers miniaturist absolutely absolutely adore you. Thank you so much for putting this out there.❤❤❤❤
I swear your videos have answered any and all questions I could have ever had about getting into this hobby. I’m not even surprised when I find exactly what I’m looking for.❤
And also thank you for taking the time out to explain it step-by-step and show the entire process. You can tell how much love and passion you have for this right away.❤
Just wanted to say, I am enjoying your videos so much ❤I am not new to horses by any means, but I am new to model and making miniatures and I’m so glad that I found your videos in the beginning of my journey❤
Let me know if there is anything you would like to learn to make that I have not done yet. I am currently working on a marathon driving cart (metal) and a parade set.
This is exactly the kind of info I’ve been searching for online and had I not come from an English equitation Hunter seat, background and customizing my own Barbie dolls. This would seem extremely strange what you’re doing, but it was unbelievably helpful.❤
Great video! I have been fascinated by these ever since I read David R. Jones's book on native american armor. I commend your research on the topic, I recognize many of the sources that you have shown in this video. My hope is that one day such recreation is done to scale, but your model is already a step in the right direction. Regarding the issue of the length of the horse armor, I think looking at sahelian horse armor from Africa might be a good clue. Like the comanche the african warriors seem to have put their own legs under the horse's armor, but also protected the horses legs with a long padded cotton blanket (which can be folded up when not in combat). Perhaps rawhide that is flexible enough could work the same?
Thank you for your comments. I was wondering if I should create some protective horse boots. They would probably be very similar to the ones we use now but tied on. I can see them created in a similar manner to the none mounted warriors, sticks bound together, then tied on with a padding of buffalo underneath. As long as the joints of the legs can move it would work. I will also take a close look at the Sahelian horse armor. Having the riders legs underneath the armor would make sense - it would also allow better communication with the horse. I also believe that taking the armor off and still having the horse tacked up and ready to run is important as running with this on would not be easy for the horse.
I LOVE model horse photography!!!! Also where do you find 8 inch rider clothes? Particularly English. Im starting to think that Appy is your favorite lol
Thanks! The appy is my photo show horse - I almost feel sorry for him :-) I make my own clothes most of the time, however I had purchased that doll years ago. I have videos and patterns on how to make clothes for the dolls
Yes of course! Look harder - lol. Take some yourself at a show. It took me ages to find this one - it is off Adobe Stock. Check Adobe Stock (or IStock - or just google) with all sorts of key words such as rodeo stadium crowd (you can get 10 images free on trial so you can line up 10 images you like first). Or check out some videos and take a screen shot. Or find a couple photos and combine them - such as people as an audience then overlay with a fence image (removing any background). I use paint.net for it. That is all part of the fun of setting up your photos.
