Captain Pikant is here to teach you about drum machines, rhythm and lots of other stuff that goes "beep". There is also an inexplicably large amount of stop motion.

Good old drum machines AkA Akia/QWERTY keyboads. Can't beat buttons. I'm gonna get a couple of 'em for christmas. My buttons are gonna sound better than your buttons. You'll see!
"Richard seems to have given up on proper track names, and just Keyser Söze's the thing with whatever unobtanium gear he has lying in front of him at the time" Amazing 😂
Hey, all the voiceovers are actually done by me, and we're not using an AI voice :) I understand that my accent might lead to some confusion. As a non-native English speaker, I'm always working to improve my pronunciation and delivery.
Dear Captain Pikant, thanks for your helpful tutorials. One question: in 11:52 you record subs live. How did you do that? When I try it on my TR8 it plays the subs but it doesn't record it. Do I have to change something in the settings? Would be happy if you (or somebody who reads this) could help me out!
Thanks so much for the quick response! I think my problem is that I have the first version of the RD8, not the MK2. My latest update is 1.3.5 and I guess I can't update to 2.1.2...
@@st.johannis-harvestehudebe646 oh you definitely can! In this video we actually use the MK1. Just download the newest version of the Synthtribe app and use it to update the machine via USB :)
This is great, a revelation! What I always missed was the way that timing mode tells pitch mode what to do. If I wanted to program a specific 16 step pattern with held notes I'd always program 16 steps in pitch mode, programming 2 steps of the same note if I wanted a tie, then try to use timing mode to join them together, but of course that doesn't work. I see now that just shunts the pattern along and making notes drop off the end I guess. So much time questioning if the thing was broken because of this.
The sudden trip at 17:30 definetily is something. This is what daydreaming feels like to me, because everything slows down and i suddenly sweep out of it really fast. Like diving into water and coming back up again.
I’m extremely thankful for the RU-vid algorithm for this mind-blowing introduction to your channel. I’m was a subscriber just a few minutes in. And also, the care put into your patrons’ names ❤.
I'm late to the party, but when he speaks about "panned left" that means it's only in the left stereo channel. (language tip o' the day: the 'e' in Porsche is NOT silent)
I am partially deaf but I hear your voice and every word as clear as a bell. I got the digital analogue quiz wrong so A or D does not matter to me. The RD 9 seems to be all I need. Video quality was awesome. Thank you!
personally, produk 29 from syro is easily my favourite track from afx. not only do i love the kraftwerk sample, i love how richard seems to give unease by swapping from a snare to what I'm going to guess is a LinnDrum clap all throughout the song. (by the way, that thing you did at 1:03 is a type of lip trill called a finger-assisted bilibial trill)
Can you do other famous drum machines as well, such as the other Roland drum machines(CR-78, TR-909, TR-606, TR-707, TR-727, TR-626, TR-505, and R-8), the Linn drum machines(Linn LM-1, LinnDrum, Linn 9000), the DMX, and Drumulator?😄🤩😎👌
