The Wedge-Tailed Eagle (Uroaetus audax) is a large eagle species native to Australia, it is the largest extant bird of prey native to Oceania and one of the two extant species belonging to the genus Uroaetus, the other is the Gurney's Eagle (Uroaetus gurneyi), they are also two of four extant species belonging to the tribe Uroaetini (Oceanian Eagles) the other two are the Pygmy Eagle (Milvaetus weiskei) and the Pygmy Eagle (Milvaetus morphnoides), this tribe also includes larger extinct forms like the Thick-Boned Eagle (Dynatoaetus pachyosteus), the Mather's Eagle (Dynatoaetus gaffae), and the Haast's Eagle (Harpagornis moorei).
