Welcome to The Whisky Baron's RU-vid channel! As an independent bottler, The Whisky Baron is perfectly positioned to act as an ambassador for the whisky category as a whole. We believe that creating excitement around distillers and producers is a key role of ours and that by building a passion and understanding for whisky within our community, we will continue to garner respect for this golden nectar.
Similar to the original whisky barons, we see whisky as a retreat from the hustle and bustle of every day life. The Whisky Baron welcomes you to explore the world of modern whisky - from barrel to bottle, The Baron is at your service!
I can’t get behind the brand with the pricing now. In Canada due to the high liquor taxes the prices are even crazier. Macallan 18 would be the equivalent of 500£ in my province, the 25 over 3400£. I avoid the brand entirely
Been drinking whisky for a while but only recently started to "Appreciate" it now going down a rabbit hole 🙂... So happy to find your channel too. Great video
what are the companies that the people created (so we can avoid them)? Basically I am looking into this, but there are loads out there, and wanting to avoid the bad companies. so also any advice would be welcome
Glorious Glenallachie oh how delicious is this spirit!!!! Loving the work put in and content from this channel and Uncut podcast. Certainly do appreciate the teams love of single malt from barley to bottle. Glenallachie is great juice!
Wonderful inside look guys! Interesting how your distillery tours have a totally different vibe from other content creators doing the same…great in depth questions and Stevie on the back end working magic 😉 And Jake, dont be offended…but im pretty sure you may be David Diamante’s son 😜…you should know him as a boxing fan I hope…now that would make a great Uncut/Unfiltered chat…he owns a bar in dntn NY so he would fit right in! Teach you a thing or two about your cigar passion too!
thanks Chaz! do you prefer our vibe or are there other tours online that you prefer? hahaha, that would be a wild episode for sure. we'll see what we can do about getting that in the lineup - don't hold your breath though!
Not easy at all…all the big box liquor stores don’t even have it…but a specialty shop along my daily work travels i frequent does!….just not the Turbo unfortunately. The Chinquapin is the winner of the 3 for me 👍🏼
Is it the intervier doing the answers? So rude interview mouthtalking and ignorant, almost like bullying the staff. I would not invite this crap if I had a destillery. Really low mark on this one!!
I'm a bit confused by your comment but assume the essence of it is that you don't like my approach or style of interviewing. sorry you feel that way. Glenallachie are delighted with this video and what we created with them - their team watched it today and invited us back
When I'm up that way, always take time to pop into Glenallachie to buy a few bottles. Also visit Glenfarclas which is just down the road. Great behind the scenes tour Jake.
your shelves must be full of treasures then Bob! thanks for tuning in and supporting the channel my friend, delighted you're enjoying the content. here's to your next visit to Glenallachie! sláinte
Would really love to find to buy sample of new make spirit. And really thank you for video. Amazing tour. I wish you all the best for everything you doing
clearic isn't always the easiest to get your hands on, but I'm sure if you ask on your next distillery tour you'll get your hands on some! thank you for your kind words and supporting the channel, great to see you're enjoying the content. sláinte!
@@TheWhiskyBaron every time i go into duty free, nothing i like... i can buy better on the internet... very rarely i see anything worth buying in duty free...and sometimes its more expensive than what i can find on the internet
@@TheWhiskyBaron I unfortunately am an American so visiting requires a bit more planning and money. 🤣 I've been to Islay twice and lived in Scotland for a bit, currently planning my next trip there in the next few years. The Glenallachie is on the top of the list of distilleries. Hope to see you there!
@@willsharp9258 well I'm glad we've helped to push this incredible place to the top of your list! safe travels when they come around and enjoy your exploration of Scotland! sláinte
Hello Jake. Such a nice episode, thank you! Although it's one of the distillery isn't far away from me and a lot of times I visited it to have a bottle (or few), I still didn't managed to have a tour, so thanks again. Surely will go for a tour, just not now unfortunately. All the best to you!
thank you Yury; it's comments like this that make the time and effort we spend on our content so worthwhile. definitely well worth a tour of your own when you get the chance. sláinte my friend
one of my top distillery visits to date JJ - seriously impressive what they're doing here and such a joy to see it first hand. could not recommend more highly
It’s probably my favourite in terms of the great whisky produced and defo the one I have the most bottles of. Love what they are doing with different casks and the pursuit of perfection as Billy calls its! Great video guys! 👏🏻
Very interesting to see a distillery tour of a site that has gone from 4million litres a year down to 800,000litres. Kinda like rehoming a battery hen and giving it a second life. Willie looks like he has a brilliant job with all those different casks coming in every week to fill and re-rack, never a dull day 😍
not quite the analogy I'd go with Jack but it's certainly amazing to see the turnaround that they have made here and the focus they have on excellence. maybe this humble Speyside distillery could pull you away from Arran?
@@TheWhiskyBaron ha now let’s stay in the realms of reality here 😂 I’ve already given my heart to Arran, perhaps a bit of spare time and weekend walks with GlenAllachie, but the box of Quality Street or Black Magic stays for Arran 😜
Thanks Jake, as usual I loved the distillery tour. So interesting to see all the similarities between the distilleries as well as the big differences. Definitely one to visit. I must give a quick mention to Stevie for the quality of the edit on this episode too, cracking scenery shots entwined with some quality mood tunes.
Wow, what a historical lineup, I Imagined that Talisker and Singleton 54 yo, were top notch 🤘 Just for curiosity how much cost a taste like this? Jake always thanks a lot the information 🤘
thanks for tuning in Aly, glad you enjoyed it! they were all amazing but funnily enough those were the two that stood out the most for me. this tasting was only £100/ticket at The Whisky Event - probably the best valued tasting I've ever been to
I own just 3 casks. I most likely will never buy another. I now buy bottles and store them myself. I do not like the fact I never really see this whiskey and you can basically tell me anything and I have no real way of knowing if it is accurate. Whatever I buy now , whiskey, gold, silver , art etc etc. I want physical possession. It is the only way to really know what you actually own.
@@TheWhiskyBaron I opened an account at vinovest. I bought three casks of American whiskey . Stumpy's ? That's all I own there. I have no clue whether it will ever be worth anything and basically just act like it's not there. No point . They tell you to plan on owning it for 5 years . I'm fine with that. I don't need the money and hopefully I'll get it back someday. I buy bottles now. I focused on MacCallan as of late.
@@timkozlow5258 it sounds like your approach is fairly spot on in as much as you've allocated funds that you don't need and you're happy to tuck them away for 5+ years. hope your bottle collection continues to go from strength to strength, but remember to open one every now and then!
Nice one Jack. It’s a great distillery with a really good visitor experience. The Barrel Reserve and the Quarter Cask remain firm favourites. Fantastic ‘distillery only’ releases. So… which pullover/jumper is up next??😂
@@SteveW459 ah thanks Steve, glad you enjoyed the video. Well, I had hoped to have a period of enjoying t-shirts and shorts what with it being summer, however…it’s been jumper weather ever since 😅 The most overcast, wet, windy summer I can remember. Good whisky sipping weather 😉
nice one Steve, thanks for tuning in and showing Jack and the channel some love. the distillery exclusives here are great - still trying to cling onto the end of mine
Crazy line up there...great opportunity you had, Jake ! I had the chance once to try a whisky of my age (58), but after the month of November, this won't be the case anymore...Nevermind, if I may say, as I had the opportunity to try Cognac from 19th century, but tbh, I'm still curious of what Gordon & MacPhail did bottle from 70 to 81 yo whisky wise...Slainte !
seriously great opportunity Greg! a whisky of one's age is such a special treat but even at 30, I'm already starting to feel the pinch each year as I try to hunt out a vintage dram. 58 is seriously special to achieve! sláinte my friend
Hey Jimmy, thanks for watching. Have just come back again from Arran and can confirm, it’s still as well-stocked a few months later (including a 28yo single cask which was a bit outa my price range).
Heya Rob, thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed the video. I think we’ve all seen prices jump up across the board over the last few years yes. What’s great about the offering in the shop is the range of price points on offer: from mid £20 for a blend, mid £30 for the Barrel Reserve (definitely recommend if you like 1st Fill Bourbon Matured), to the more pricier end for those with deeper pockets. Have you tried their 10yo before? A very good entry point ☺️🥃
@@jackabussingly Hi Jack. 10 year old is great value for money. And that's where my loyalty lies - Value for money. After about 15 yo....we see diminishing returns. I know people will disagree, but the premium placed on older/distillery only bottles is misplaced.
@@digitaldemocracyai-rob an interesting point Rob. I personally think distillery only expressions are exciting and would chase them down, but there has to be a reason for the price jump with these bottles or it can seem misplaced as you say. what's your favourite core range release?
You could drink whisky at 57% abv or more, if you want. It's your money. Just as someone who buys a 30 Year Old Single Malt and knocks it back in shot glasses. Do what you want. Is it advised? IMO, No! Is it giving respect to those who made the whisky or the amount of time it has laid in the warehouse maturing? No! These Cask Strength Single Malts are bottled at 57-62% abv but are not designed to be drunk without first diluting it. You have all those flavours locked up in those ethanol molecules. Theoretically, the higher the abv, the more potential flavour will be locked inside. To unlock them, you add water. How much? That's up to you. The fun is in the experimentation. If you feel alcohol nose pain or "nose pinch" then keep on adding a few drops of water every few minutes until the nose pinch goes. Then sip, hold in the mouth and enjoy. Take your time. If drinking whisky at cask strength is a "man" thing for you, then, by all means, preserve your ego, but do me a favour, just try drinking a half a glass of water just before you sip the whisky (which will hydrate the mouth somewhat), and then see if the whisky becomes more interesting. What do you have to lose?
Hi Reb, thanks for watching the video, hope you enjoyed it. Cask strength is mostly my thing I’ll be honest, but as I mentioned at the end of the vid, the Barrel Reserve from Arran comes in at a lower abv (43%) and very affordable price point. Something for everyone ☺️🥃
@jackabussingly Absolutely. For those who don't want to start messing about with water, 40% or, better still, 43% abv is the correct choice. But for the whisky enthusiast who wants to get the most flavour from his/her whisky, they should definitely go for the Cask Strength. However, in my opinion, with over 30 years of experience, I would certainly not recommend drinking Cask Strength whisky without some water dilution. It's like listening to brand new HiFi speakers with the transport wrapping stilll on. Will you hear something? Yes, but it will be muffled. Transport wrapping is essential in order that the speakers arrive perfectly intact but before playing music you should remove the wrapping. Similarly with whisky, the higher the abv, the more flavour is potentially preserved. But in order to expose these flavours, you must add water. How much? Dilute to 50%, 45%, or 40%? That's up to you, but please don't tell your viewers that it's a good thing to drink straight from the bottle at fifty something or sixty something percent abv. As well as not getting the best out of the whisky, ie maximum flavour, I don't think it's particularly healthy for you either.
@@RebMordechaiReviews I really think it’s a case of each to their own when it comes to how to drink whisky. I add water to cask strength whisky, that’s my preference, and I know lots of my friends that prefer not to add anything. For me it’s more about the communal experience that we may be sharing a dram together and all too briefly spending time together in our adult lives. Slainte 🥃
@@jackabussingly May I ask, do you know why your friends prefer not to add water to their, say 60% plus... abv whisky, even though they are aware that drinking straight without some dilution, will mask much of the flavour and complexity?
@@RebMordechaiReviews as with many things in life, personal taste varies drastically from friend to friend. I’ve also got a fair number of buddies who are wayyyy more into beer and cider than whisky. We all just find a way to muddle through and enjoy ourselves the best we can ☺️☺️☺️
Thanks for taking us around the shop Jack. I liked the tone and pace of this vid punctuated by your dry humour. I've got to admit I've got a thirst on now. I've only tried the Bodega, Amarone & 10 from Arran but it's definitely a whisky I would be keen to explore further.
@@TheWhiskyBaron I wouldn't mind picking up a bottle of the 17 before it disappears and maybe the port cask. I'll leave the non core range stuff until I can do a tour of the distillery and visit the shop.
Ah thank you for watching and glad to read you enjoyed it. I’ve just come back from the Arran Malt & Music festival and can confirm the shop is still incredibly well-stocked with a wide range of bangers! There was a cheeky 28yo single cask which just arrived last week, a bit outa my price range. Lots more bottlings to choose from other than that ☺️
@@jackabussingly You should be on commission with Lochranza, I have the breaking strain of a kitkat and bought both the 17 and port cask. I'm done with your videos, they are proving too expensive but it should provide the most enjoyable weekend for me🤣
Heya Richard, thank you for watching. You won’t be disappointed when you arrive there - so many amazing bottlings on offer and very friendly staff to make you feel welcome ☺️
