love this video and take on Cole, I always noticed something about his character but didn’t put the pieces together. What’s your opinion of Geo? I need to know.
also all the times when airjitzu would have saved the day but they just kinda... forgot edit: not because i think that's a traumatic event, i just kept remembering it while watching later seasons and i take every opportunity to say it should have been there lol
One of my favorite things about that Zane scene is how he walks below deck and the screen *immediately* goes off-kilter. Of course, before this, we get a snippet of Jay saying that he shouldn’t be alone, but even if he hadn’t said this Zane’s entry into the dark room would automatically install a sense of unease and danger. We know Nadakhan is there far before we even see him. The whole scene where he takes his time fixing the chess board had me on the edge of my seat with anticipation. Very well written
Athazagoraphobia: the fear of being forgotten, or of forgetting something important I think it fits Cole pretty well, particularly given DotD and his lines in MotO about being left behind :]
Okay um… I think I get why he’s my favorite now.. I always told everyone he just sort of felt relatable in a way I didn’t actually understand.. And now I do.
I've been watching Ninjago since I was a kid so I'm still not used to Lloyd being the main character. I miss those times when Kai was the main one. The entire show started with him so it's only natural for me to think that he should be the overall focus, even with the other Ninja's highlights
I don't think Nya is supposed to be a teenager. The ninja always seemed to be portrayed as young adults to me, but in a way that is very relatable to a teenage audience. Nadakhan's still r^pist coded, though, no question.
when i was like.. idk 10-11, when there was only the 1 season out i loved unifrown, but then in my homophobic country, they stopped showing the series and i didn't know why... now i do. so up until now i always thought that unikitty was around 20-21... and puppycorn was like 13-14... and i always thought that kitty, frown, brock, the hawk crocodile guy and the block dude were all about the same age... it kinda feels like a huge piece of my childhood just got cut off me... i remember having warm memories with the unifrown ship and i've always loved the enemies to lovers troupe.... now i feel like i got kinda stabbed in the back eheh... welp, guess i can consider myself problematic now lol but i don't ship them n e more, dw, just feels kinda sad, cuz i don't really see frock together but whatever, not like i can just change it, lol
When i was little, Cole was immediately my favorite, sure it’s because I loved the color black and strong characters but ever since it first came out he has continued to be my favorite. He had so much potential, he is a very in depth character that the writers never really explored. The very fact his mother died very slowly and of natural causes and not some heroic sacrifice is already such a good concept and different from the other ninjas. Not only that but bro literally became the living dead for a moment. LIKE PLEASE LET US EXPLORE HIS TRAUMA HE HAS ALOT - it doesn’t need to be thrown in full force as Cole seems like a very secluded guy when it comes to his feelings but like let’s explore that!
Zane really needs a freak out scene about losing P.I.X.A.L in Dragons Rising. Also I agree with you on the ice emperor thing, but there is a book were Zane faces the Ice Emperor in his subconscious. It’s call the lost story’s I think.
Blitz: I've watch those two pork many times. And honestly? They make missionary look realitivly exciting Moxxie: ARE YOU FUCKIN FILMING US?! Ozzie: aww~ ain't that just a happy display? It sickins me!~ *demonic voice* GET THE FUCK OUT!! Interesting thing about asmodeus? He looks a lot like a rooster, my Chinese zodiac.
I can’t be the only one that notices the music for the song is a part of both Stolas theme and in the credits of like one or two episodes, one of them being I think after his near death experience with Stryker if you listen closely and carefully
(Fizz quotes)YOUR DEMON HOST, ASMODEUS! THE EMBODIMENT OF LVVVVVST ONLY LITTLE BES STRUM THE STRINGS IN THEIR HEARTS DEPRAVITY, SAVAGERY! LOINS HOTTER THAN FIIIRE!
I agree with Crystalized, it handled grief well, but it brushed over a bunch of stuff, I would’ve liked the original version it would’ve ended. Where Lloyd was absolutely corrupted by the Oni side, destroying the Overlord entirely and taking his place (though Garmadon did actually die.) Nya hadn’t came back in the early episodes, but specifically the last episode, then her and Lloyd would have a 1v1. I do think Lloyd being completely destroyed and taken over by the Oni side would’ve been a better way to show his bottled anger and other negative emotions, like you just watched your dad die for like what? The 4th time? So yeah, I would’ve been extremely upset to the point that I would lose control. It also would’ve been nice to see Nya 1v1 Lloyd, she’s still the Ocean but it would’ve been great to see the fight. She has her memories back, but her found little brother is destroying the city she sacrificed to protect, so seeing a heartfelt/bittersweet 1v1 would’ve been amazing.
When I first watched the show I didn’t even know shipping existed so I never shipped anyone till now and I’m only a frock and foxadlie (idk if this is the name of the ship lol)kinda person
“Comedic purposes” is like the main reason why everybody didn’t bother to check her age mainly because typically in children’s cartoon the adults don’t really seem like an adult. I guess it was probably under presumption that she was just acting cutie and childlike because it’s a children’s cartoon, not that she was a *actual* child, also in cartoons, especially with non-human characters nobody really thinks about ages unless it’s like directly said so.
Love this video! Ninjago was and still is my little brother's special interest but I was a bit too old for it when it came out (I vaguely remember reading one of the early books that covered the plot of the pilots, Lloyd didn't exist yet) and lately we've been watching the show from the beginning together. He immediately pegged that Cole would be my favorite, specifically that I'd really like his true potential episode and at first I watched it and it felt kind of superficial but as the show went on and I learned more about him, I starting seeing the similarities. I hardly ever relate to fictional characters, but Cole and I both lost a parent around the same age and spent the rest of our childhoods trying to process the grief. Both of us struggle to ask for help, believe that out self worth is somehow connected to how helpful or responsible we are, rarely complain, were more emotionally mature than our peers, and struggle to find common ground with our surviving parent. I actually relate to Cole more because his struggles are in the background, because we're determined to be there for the people around us without ever needing support in return. If the show had gone out of its way to portray Cole's struggles, it would have felt forced, in the way a lot of kid's shows beat you over the head with WE ARE TEACHING YOUR KIDS LIFE LESSONS and it wouldn't have felt very "Cole". I certainly wouldn't have found him relatable if his struggles were more explicit. As he is, I think the people who relate to Cole the most are able to pick up on it and he's reaching his maybe not target but ideal audience. That audience just so happens to be millineals struggling to pay rent who can't always drop $80 on Legos.
I still think from tournament of elements the Kai being corrupted by the staff thing should have had lasting effects. Either Lloyd realizing some of Kai’s issues from it or Kai being slightly worried that he could slip back into it. Would have been nice to have some minor mentions especially since Possession would’ve been a great place to portray that as the next season and the whole thing in that season was Morro controlling Lloyd. Still fine without it, but it could have been interesting
He should’ve been the one who’ve stayed back the longest and said that he was super sorry and that he knows they might not forgive him but he is sorry a Then leaves.
And I’ll give the show one thing when jay was scared on the island he was scared because of the memory of skybounds tiger widow spider chase idk but it might be the same bridge
the more i watch your videos, the more i agree with you (binging rn 😜). when i first watched this season, i was like, 7, and i didnt think of nadakhan as a sexual assaulter since i had never come across the topic before. at the point i liked the season, and it was around the time when skybound came out that i got my first ninjago set. years later when i rewatched this season (combined with videos like this about skybound), i realised how disgusting of a character nadakhan is. the season is not bad, the villain is, but i simply cannot like the season because of him. great video btw!
this is a great video and perspective, and a perfect example to why ninjago isnt "just some kids show". cole being depressed is something i never realised myself, but i now realise it is most likely true. subbed!
