If you substitute spirit for will, then it fits pretty well with the definition they're trying to fit it into. The spiritual can't be defined with modern psychology because the word was created as a concept back before we understood any of that. It's like when someone says "you've got heart." We used to believe that is where the consciousness resided, since we didn't understand biology enough to know the brain is the originating point and the heart is a muscle for our nutrient system. We still use the term but understand that it is used in the same manner as "you've got guts." It's interesting to me that we have transitioned to using the term spirit to describe an intangible but understood aspect of the human psyche, yet continue to insist that it is wholly different and can be "trained" in some way. You can improve your emotional well-being, your self-discipline, your desire to fight for a cause greater than yourself, but to lump all of that under the umbrella term "spiritual" and then pretend that we can even measure or identify some metric to gauge its fitness is laughable.

Christians are going to be infuriated that Jesus specifically wasn't mentioned (or even God), while secularists will be upset that anything spiritual/religious is being pushed the troops. Very nebulous and AA like.

Define "spiritual". You can't prove there's something "higher than us." So it spiritual something you think, because in 2024 we call that cognition. Is it something you feel, because in 2024 we call that emotion. And if it's the ability to self-reflect, to self-assess through memory of the past or prediction of future outcomes, that's known as consciousness. Separation of Church and State, gentlemen. Know it. Use it.
I understand marines have a tough job but does that justify your leadership establishing a religion within the corp? Are you defending your constitution or the Christian Bible?
On one hand, this message is needed now more than ever considering how this age of moral chaos and Nihilism has demoralized our warfighters. We're more vulnerable to not only self-harm but psychological warfare from enemy propagandists. But on the other hand, lack of specificity on which spiritual path is the best at forming spiritual strength creates a stumbling block. Is the benefit of having a spiritually diverse fighting force worth the sacrifice of having demoralized, spiritually weak warfighters?
I remember one time (around 35 years ago) they brought us out how chow to the field and gave us French toast made with rye bread. 🤢 We were cold and hungry so we ate it of course 😆
