Just picked up a CD of this album on Amazon after having this song stuck in my head off and on for the past 25 years from recording this video off MTV at a time when I didn't have direct access. Great album. Funny how hard it was to find out anything about bands when living in small town nowhere in the pre-internet era, but finding gems like this. Hope all is well with you guys.
This here is an album promo done right! It introduces the band and their music simply, boldly and effectively! I’ll be sure to keep an ear out for you guys on Spotify!
I remember this on 120 Minutes. It sounds like "A Million Miles Away" by The Plimsouls. I was hearing that a lot on my local college Station after I heard this, learning The Plimsouls song was years before this. I cab see the influence.
You'll get a better tone if you play with the side of your fingers, rather than the tips, as you are doing. You obviously come to this from an electric bass. Lower the volume and dig in...
I'm a huge rock fan but never heard the term Athens rock. Maybe it was before my time. But anyways this is some pretty cool rock. There playing in nashville next weekend and I might have to go see them!
The NXT series does just have a switch to go between the arco and pizz. The more expensive CR series has a sweeping dial where the two can be blended. I have to agree, plucking in the arco setting has that more traditional upright sound - very percussive, but the sound dies pretty quick. I kind of wish I had gotten a CR so I could bring in more sustain when plucking in the arco setting - but the cost was quite a bit more. I can't find any "mods" out there in the internet to convert this to a dial. This is a great bass. Quality instruments. Excellent sound, easy to transport and very easy to play compared to a traditional acoustic upright.
I agree with Rumjumbie. I am the first wife and I hated his choosing a career in music, my family is all about music. But I know the real Joe and he is very cerebral and talented. He should be a star!
Awesome band. Too cerebral for the masses though. Now we have Justin Beiber and pablum. C'mon back Joe, bring Waikiki with you... Maybe Six Empty Bottles to Keep Her Love True...
Man, music like this was so few and in-between, even then. Good, hell GREAT lyrics! Smart, clever,so much NOT the crap that was soo prevalent then. (Or Now) Found the first album on cassette in a cut-out bin (!) in '89 and played hell out of it! Then found "Geared and Primed' on CD, kept looking for the 'RCOC' CD until I found that. What struck me most from the first album was the use of stringed instruments that were really not used at the time. Like Bluegrass/Rock fusion!
Hi, i´m from México, i used to had this cd (without the case) somebody give it to me, i don´t remember, but i used to play it all day. it was very good, but some day somebody took it away. the album was "geared and primed" the whole album its so cool
Joe... I am so glad you are still around...I have only been able to find this song on youtube but it is one of the seminal songs from my youth...I would love to see you play it live in OKC if ever possible! You rock bro!
