exercise 1 & 3, #1 i do before any kind of training martial arts, weightlifting or swimming. #3 is like a magic pill, it improves the shoulder health and help reduced any pain or impingement issues, I do it once or twice a moth as a last resort when everything else fails and it work wonders.

Now THIS is a good instructional! No nonsense, just straight to the point! A question from a newb: Why do Escrima practictioners occassionally slap their knife arm with their non-dominant arm during a motion? Is it to help stop the trajectory of the arm when it is swinging in towards the body?
You must be reading my mind Mr Ingram. 😊 My shoulders are a bit arthritic so I'll give these exercises a try this afternoon. That staff exercise looks tricky, lol. 😅
@@kalicenter Thank you! :-) The stick swinging I can do OK. I haven't got an actual staff so I tried using a broom handle. With that I can't get my arms down behind me even slightly. It's quite painful just to raise it over my head, which is bearable; but alas I can't get it down behind the plane of the back of my head even slightly. My shoulders won't go that far. I'll think about buying a longer stick to use as a staff but it might turn out to be too late for that much rotation. As I say, I'm 70 years old; and in addition I've never taken much exercise. Thank you very much for your excellent channel and all of your hard work though, it's greatly appreciated. :-)
Well said! You get out of things, what you put in. A little effort, even regularly, still equals a little return. Sadly, in a world of instant gratification most will not truly succeed in a expert/master status. This includes work skills as well. I am a master carpenter because I have dedicated my time to truly howning my skills. Martial Arts is no different! Even with 20 years of mixed training, for specific reasons, I have yet to achieve a master status. Simply because I can't dedicate the same amount of time to it as my other skills. Keep up the great work and videos. They do have an impact on people's lives!
I started with Kali in my martial arts journey and then went on to study other arts. I wouldn't say I am a good martial artist, but I would always show up and do the work. I enjoy it a lot. After 24 years, I recently went back to Kali when I found a good local school. I remember a lot of it, but I am starting over in the beginner classes to make sure I have the foundational techniques down. I am having so much fun!
I'm coming up on 4 years with Kali and about 3 1/2 with KC. I haven't been to a seminar but I did train in person with Tom and Chis last year and currently monthly with Tony. I kind of go through fits and starts with Kali. I get insanely frustrated with myself and it almost becomes aversive to train. I haven't figured out a way through that yet. Recently though I got a new horse and he's taking up a lot of my time. But while working with him I'm learning the same attributes as Kali. Range, timing, awareness of myself, awareness of the environment, awareness of him and how that all comes together. It's the same System. And I'm starting to have a deeper appreciation for both. So I started training again more consistently and it's finally starting to click. I sure as Hell can't get frustrated working with the horse so I'm starting to use the same grace and patience I give him for myself. I'm forever grateful for KC. I'm not enrolled anymore. I'm fine being "good enough" and improving at my own pace under Tony's guidance but I'm finally starting to see the System play out in wildly different activities. Pretty cool stuff.
Such reflection appreciated Paul. I recall 2019 as the year of discovery for me of the intriguing Kali M.A. form. I got 'pretty good' by the year 2024. Maybe kind of plateaued, but Kali formed the major part of daily training, and I was in contact with a Wing Tsun teacher trainer whose skills literally stun. But February I went in for surgery, shoulder reconstruction, to repair an old fall injury, and lo and behold the old plate removal complication resulted in an unexpected additional fracture. Only in the past month have I at last accessed the correct healing compound. Before this, suffice to say, in my unused dojo, I would sit, grieving the loss of all training time while I sought to heal. It's all about to step up soon, I feel. The stream of videos from Kali centre, I'm eager to dip my toes in again. I'll update my subscription too, because I want to support the Kali Center.
