The imagination is our most valuable renewable resource. So, twice a year we convene an international celebration of ideas to recharge our imaginations. From politics to poetry, science to music, history to thrillers, we celebrate the full diversity of the word and the gifted writers who guide us in our exploration of the world. Our year-round special events keep the ideas coming between Festivals.

We believe that a love of reading and learning should be nurtured throughout our lives and that literacy is a birthright. Whether offering writing workshops to the homeless, hosting a Nobel Laureate, organizing our biannual literary celebrations or bringing authors into area schools, our goal is the same: to create an environment that activates creativity and encourages the love of reading, learning and self-expression.

Btw that he demoted her to the Indian Act role she told him right from the start she wouldn’t partake in was proof that he was trying to get rid of her he knew she’d resign. She could have taken this a lot farther than she did for the fact alone he was fkn around with her position. And her livelihood.

Why do white people insist upon slapping native populations in the face by reminding them that we stole their land, and have no intention of giving it back ?

Came across this book and on page two already saw all the waste of time before she even got there. She’s either a victim of violence or confused. She wasn’t prepared to deal with a weasel. Her family should have known better should have prepared her especially her father that’s his job as her parent to prepare her for the games boys play. Her conviction for justice is good it’s solid, but her discipline is extremely poor it acted way too late it should have been in action before she ever got there. So it wouldn’t surprise me if Trudeau took her on because he saw that. But what did he accomplish in wasting her time… for him it was a game, so he had to move on without her because like her he thought he could win her over. What a horrible pair for Canada.

This book transformed my perspective of my being in this world with other beings. I find it hard to put into words how Simpson's use of language opened up new worlds of connecting to human and more-than-human communities (to me). It was also devastatingly funny and heart-opening.

I always thought it was purely improvised or like he just pushes record & cuts & edits in the best parts of the conversations they have. Either way it’s pretty neat. Sad that it’s no more a show. Now he’s doing Heavyweight. He should actually make a show & bring it back for one more season.

Okay, this is where you have to give some serious thought to what she's saying. What serves the people best? And in the course of justice... we shall not find salvation... something from Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice". The lawmakers are thwarting the laws. Does this mean we're being governed by criminals who just exploit Canada? I think that has to be made clear. I think that it's been a mistake for this woman along with anyone that sides with her, the fact she did not clarify what this meant. Is this just about her sense of justice? Is this about some technicality? Was there something deeply immoral? What impact does this actually have? Would it be as bad let's say as having our country invaded by immigrants and migrants, deeming them as Canadian as anyone born in the country? And then having the demographics of race change completely within about 4 years? which of course has a detrimental effect on the culture, including the common language we speak. Having also a catastrophic effect on our healthcare system, housing, the cost of goods and services. If you had to pick the most destructive policy or action by Trudeau, would it be the SNC Lavalin scandal? Would it be his ridiculous spending practices? Would it be his racist policies that prioritize black people? Or his order to police to stop from conducting investigations where crimes have been committed? What about children being made eunuchs? Also without their parents' consent or directly against their parents' wishes? What about Trudeau's claim that there were mass graves and the Catholic church was responsible for the death of thousands of indigenous children? A claim that has since been proven false. What about how he's been exposed as having fondled a reporter? His unprofessional conduct isn't just unbecoming, it's so much worse since he's insulted the male population for years suggesting they're all gRapists and have to do better. The list is long.

You could break it down and simply say... the Canadian government is an elected body. But the Canadian people have no way to determine the course they're on. It's simply imposed, and none of the electoral promises have to be met. You elect someone who says things, you have few choices, and once they're in power there's no way to protest any of their decisions. Canada has been plunged into debt, and what's more, it's no longer Canada. A country is its people. Anyone can move to Canada, any and every language is spoken here. The invasion continues and saying anything about it is too controversial. This woman doesn't have the nerve to say... Canada belongs to the aboriginal people. And though Trudeau apologizes to them regularly, claims to have respect for them, he's selling off land and resources as if it belongs to him alone.

I love how they they tout the military as the counter to civil disobedience yet never consider that mutiny by that military is a possibility. Biden remarked that we can have our AR 15 rfles, he has F15s. Swallwell and Nadler brag that the US has nuclear weapons. Will they really nuke American cities? The first time a pilot fires his missiles at a government target will breed mistrust of the force they are depending on. Czarist soldiers mutinied when ordered to get back to WW 1 fighting and in some cases shot their officers. There are only so many military than can be committed to putting down a rebellion. Much of the force will still be on patrol overseas working to prevent belligerent acts by our enemies. Will China finally attack Taiwan? Will the Russians expand their Ukrainian foray into the countries that composed the Soviet Union? Or the rest of Europe? Criticism by Canadians is laughable. They think they understand they understand the US and its people but in reality they don't. It's a big country with a lot of people and armed with a constitution. We broke with the mother country where they just went along with it running their country. They still haven't fully thrown off the British mantle and still think the monarchy is important. Without that mantle the country would probably been annexed into the US.

On January 6th, 4 in the crowd died. SOURCE: Anna Moneymaker for The New York Times By Chris Cameron Published Jan. 5, 2022 Updated Oct. 13, 2022 WASHINGTON - As a pro-Trump protest turned into a violent attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6 last year, four people in the crowd died. Ashli Babbitt, an Air Force veteran, was fatally shot by a Capitol Police officer as rioters tried to breach the House chamber. Kevin D. Greeson died of a heart attack, collapsing on the sidewalk west of the Capitol on Jan. 6. Rosanne Boyland appeared to have been crushed in a stampede of fellow rioters as they surged against the police. Benjamin Philips, the founder of a pro-Trump website called Trumparoo, died of a stroke. Mr. Greeson and Mr. Philips died of natural causes, the Washington medical examiner said in April. He added that Ms. Boyland’s death was caused by an accidental overdose. ...

I don't see it being a Civil War. We are at the point with the Woke stuff that everyone realizes we don't have anything in common now. So the separation has begun because people don't want the fighting. I see a break up, you will have several Countries, the Red area, the South and the Middle and maybe Western Canada Red Counties will make up 85 percent of the Land in the USA. Then the Blue areas, Southern California, and Southern Arizona, Southern New Mexico and South Texas. Then Portland and ten Counties or so, same with Seattle, then the Northeast with Quebec and Toronto. The Conservatives are mostly Christians and the Liberals are Socialist Communist. And it won't work.

I’m not in marketing, although like everyone else, I’m exposed to it 24/7. Terry O’ Reilly’s UTI and AOP are not podcasts in the traditional sense, as they elevate that genre beyond pretty much anything I’ve listened to. I’ll tune into a podcast covering a subject I AM interested in and be greeted by 2-3 unfunny & boisterous ass-clowns trying to out obnoxious each other like their “script” reads like quips from the cutting room floor of the latest Marvel movie. There’s no quality content, no structure and more often than not, no point to the verbal shenanigans and it exists only because these guys bought a couple of USB mics and someone, quite possibly sarcastically, told them they should do a podcast. In short, Terry is so incredibly interesting and the team meticulously prepares each episode that it’s always the highlight of my week. Love the books too.

Countries with parliaments (representative democracy) are in fact oligarchies (few lead). In order to be a true democracy, the decisions of the Parliament should be submitted to the approval of the citizens. The "fatigue" of democracy occurs when there is a big difference between the interests of those elected and the voters, so people lose confidence in the way society function. As a result, the poor and desperate citizens will vote with whoever promises them a lifeline, i.e. the populists or demagogues. The democratic aspect is a side effect in societies where economies have a strong competitive aspect, where the interests of those who hold economic power in society are divergent. Thus, those with money, and implicitly with political power in society, are supervising each other so that none of them have undeserved advantages due to politics. Because of this, countries with large mineral resources, like Russia and Venezuela (their share in GDP is large), do not have democratic aspects, because a small group of people can exploit these resources in their own interest. In poor countries, the main resource exploited may even be the state budget, as they have converging interests in benefiting, in their own interest, from this resource. This is what is observed in Romania, Bulgaria, when, no matter which party comes to power, the result is the same. The The solution is modern direct democracy in which every citizen can vote, whenever he wants, over the head of the parliamentarian who represents him. He can even dismiss him if most of his voters consider that their interests are not right represented.

Students for a Democratic Society had idea about Direct Democracy in 1960's and they acted to enable them. They decided that the time involved in study of every decision the Government would be allowed to make, took more time than the average Human could afford. Representative Government seeks honest and those not corrupted by bribes. The ability to find an Honest Human to represent a concept of democracy is difficult when Media is operated for the profits that control provides to those who can buy it. The French were known for being revolutionary, as they seemed to want to all move into Versailles. The ability to have a warm home seems to become unavailable to a growing portion of Americans. The Ability to own 4 different Houses appears to be some dream that the Elite cling to, no matter how many bodies they need to step over on their way to the Bank. Compromise seems elusive?
