Meritocratic hubris has definitely created an elitist culture within the academia, coming from a middle class background I have witnessed many instructors who dictate a classroom instead of actually teaching the subject and instead focus on “being successful and being on top in life”. rather then applying critical thinking skills to gear students up for reality and to help society, not to profit from it.
