I think the only 567 prime mover loco on the Vermont Rail System is the 801. 802 had the 567 prime mover replaced with a 645 in 1979 and 804 may have had its pulled in 1978 for a 645.
Unfortunately, now days, even a true 567 equipped locomotive most likely has been upgraded with 645 power assemblies! They bore out the cylinders and add 645 pistons, etc. If I remember correctly, they call it a 645BC or 645C engine, the letter denoting the crankshaft; as opposed to 645E or F. The 645E would denote non turbo’s GP38 series, 645E3 being GP40 and corresponding SD’s. The 645F bring the 50 series, I.e.:GP50/SD50.
@@TheRoxburyRailProductions incidentally, the D series would be the 567D of the GP18, the 567D3A being the GP35 and corresponding SD’s. The G is the 710G of the SD60 and later SD70’s up to the present (there being other numbers and letters added); the H being the 265H of the SD90 series, skipping I, then the 1010J of the current 4-stroke SD70ACe-T4. Each letter after the engine size indicates the crankshaft model or generation, as I’ve heard it said.
The sounds in this video triggered a full on schizophrenic episode....not saying it's a bad video, just the sound of it....can I use that audio n mix it into a track???
Did notice that it was a GP38, not fitted with a 567 series engine. Though I completely understand the confusion, 567's are most commonly fitted with a roots blower just like a GP38, rather than a turbocharger, so even though the engines are not the same (567 vs 645), they sound quite similar. (Hope that is helpful) Great video as well!
All GP38 and SD38 series plus the famous DASH 2 electronics don't have turbo chargers. They were meant to be light duty road switchers with or without dynamic braking.
wow. great catch. I saw those cars there when I was down chasing that line but never seen them move. only caught them bringing a loaded centerbeam up to Barre
These were ballast extras. I wouldn’t count on them running right now. Although I pretty sure the crew for regular granite train are called at 7:00. But really they run all day
