I think The Doors did a great cover of this song. They really nailed it.

Fome.

Soo, when The Doors covered this song, it was 37 years old. And it’s been 56 years since The Doors covered it. Craaazy. I bet, it felt to Jim Morrison that it was a looong time ago and it feels less so when looking at 1967. I guess it shows how much the world has been through in the 30s and 40s, ending an era a starting a new one. It’s similar to the fact that we’re right now closer to the Roman Era than the Romans were to the Eygptian Civilizaton that built the pyramids.

Wunderbar! So schade!

This just oozes Weimar Republic degeneracy and the push in all forms of media, art and culture towards "Modernism / Expressionism". It's just the type of stuff that Hitler purged when he came to power 3 years later.

BTW, if you can"t stand the full extent of the horror of 20s Germany and want to get to the (imagined by Weill and Kaiser) happy bit, - "um uns zu locken?"- when the sun comes out, it starts at 1:41. Gets me every time...
