Varieties of interceptions: (1) QB's arm gets hit and he floats the ball out into the hands of a DB; (2) D-Line tips the ball and an LB or DB catches it; (3) WR botches easy catch, DB reels it in on the rebound; (4) QB throws a 50/50 ball way downfield, and DB outbattles the WR for the ball; (5) On an option route, WR cuts one way, QB throws the other way; and then we have (6) QB thinks receiver is open, DB jumps route, cuts in front of the receiver and makes the Int.; (7) QB sees WR open in second layer of zone, first layer guy moves back far enough to leap and make the Int.: (8) QB is inexperienced and thinks it's man when it's zone and tosses the ball right to a DB in zone coverage; and (9) QB misses throw high and safety gathers it in. There may be more varieties, but that is, I think, a pretty good list. Only 6-9 are solely on the QB, and even those might be partly caused by an O-line failure. It's a team game despite all the focus on the QB.
