Amazing to hear CP talk about H.W.Llewellyn-Smith. My only memories of him are, that he introduced us to Edwin Abbott's "Flatland", and that once he told us "If someone says that something is self-evident, that just means that he can't prove it". CP and I must have been in different years, as I was in a production of "King Lear" but with someone else in the title role. I remember a teacher called Philips, and another called Jimmy Smith. Whether it was the same Philips, I don't know.
24:30 ... A Starred First in both Parts of the Tripos presumably makes a "Double Starred First", which must be a remarkably rare achievement. Alan - having worked at Cambridge for so many years, how often have you seen (or even heard) of a Starred Double First being awarded?

Leave your ivory tower for a minute, Professor. Current politics speaks of everyone having the resources to pay their bills, ie.. heat in the winter, rent, food, healthcare. It also speaks of those who so rich that they buy the politicians. Very few people are levelers or marxists. No one calls for real economic Equality. IMHO.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and the summary of Christoph von Furer-Haimendorf. I am from Konyak Naga tribe from Nagaland, previously it was under Assam. I cannot express how much we appreciate Christoph for capturing our culture by protos and the videos. We would have never know the ways of life from our ancestors without his works. As a comic artist, we need some reference and i regularly search Christoph work in google or youtube to make a Naga comic.
Ironically enough, my grandmother believed she had the ability to kill people with her thoughts. She apparently did it several times, but only to people who deserved it. And we're from the Balkans, not Africa.

I have to say I am just knocked out by Boas , he must have experienced massive push back for his ideas in an era of rampant eugenics . Hitler credited the US for their progressive ideas about racial purity , far ahead of the Germans. Its not touched on here but as a Jew in the era of Ford , Lindberg etc Boas must have copped some proper flak
