@@mcm_wingchun 😁😁😁 I have trained in Ving Tsun for 52 years and am a direct student of Master Wong Shun Leung (if you've ever heard of him - he also taught Bruce Lee), so trust me, you don't have a stance. You need to learn how to stand so that your mass is below your hips.

Never lead with an elbow its an opportunistic response if someone takes a leg off the ground pressure them to make them try to recover as they do intercept that attempt and if some one has their elbow over yours take care of it before it bites you as a bad exchange could be brutal Looks like a good training session always fun first

I've not trained in some time but still, this isn't right. The bong should not push and to teach that way means you're not understanding the system of Wing Chun. The bong must give, always, it's not a 'block' and this is not Karate. If you're teaching then surely if your student pushes with the bong sau you but demonstrate the proper way to use the bong sau, not press forward to defeat him. Since when did 'occupying the centre with your mass not your hand' become a part of Wing Chun? The centre is to be contolled. Bulldozing one's way into it in order to occupy will surely end in a loss when faced with a worthy opponent.

Yes, you can do all kinds of things when you don't understand the drill or know how to do it or what it is supposed to train... The movements shown here are completely outside the drill... If you give him some energy on his bong his bong should not "push back"? lol No, it shouldn't... One of the sayings in the system is as follows: Bong does not stay..
@wingchun-simplekungfu7584
@wingchun-simplekungfu7584 2 месяца назад
Agree. There’s too much of this from those who haven’t been taught properly.
@trondyne3513
@trondyne3513 2 месяца назад
Just to clarify bong does maintain it's shape for a brief moment (forward energy) however it's a micro-moment and then it changes, depending on the energy received, it can close off his facing or it can change to tan etc but "push back" as shown no. The position and action @1:01 is outside the system, in other words it's not a wing chun technique...meaning it does not abide by the rules of the drill or the ideas of the art. For example: If you "press" my bong it will tan you in the face - ask yourself what is the purpose of the bong? What are you training,? The answer is training to respond to energy that deviates from the line - using actual Wing Chun techniques, like Bong -> Tan -> side palm... Bong is a secondary hand so it must change and if you press it like that it must change immediately. The most common tool bong changes to is of course Tan but it can also change to a palm or biu sao, lan sao, etc. Also single moves are not ideal, faan sao means following up and controlling so when you do a move with one hand (bong/tan) do something with the other hand, like Fook/Jut... To the smaller guy: When he (presses your bong) step back a little on a slight angle while dropping your elbow into Tan and clear with a jut or jum with the other hand - now you're loaded using his energy - see what's open in that moment and step in with an attack to fill the opening. That is swallowing and spitting... :)

I don't know who provided you with this, but I filmed this on top of Sifu Leung's apartment building in Astoria, Queens, in 1982 or 1983. It is Sifu Leung performing the "standard" version of Sil Lum Tao, not the Buddha Hand version that he taught to me or Sifu James Cama. (This is Dr. Fish writing. Chang XIanglong is my Chinese name.)

@@sifuredmond Yes we have met - and I was senior to you . Sifu Leung taught me mostly privately. This video was filmed on the roof of the apartment house that Sifu Leung bought - I believe you lived there as well. I am fairly sure it was filmed in 1983. I know that it wound up circulating on the web for a while - a student of mine downloaded it from my computer without my permission. There was also footage from when Sifu Leung lived in Starret City that has (I think) you and several of your classmates demonstrating forms, Chisao, and Sifu Leung showing how to deal with various attacks.

good stuff. it's a buddhist art, so I always wonder why everyone busts out the protractors and kicks up a fuss over the names of things. He changes, you change. Simple! my favorite thing to do with that structure is slip it under the opponent's arm / behind the shoulder at chum kiu range and either turn into them or away (lopping with the other hand), depending on where the resistance is, and whether they've given me momentum from their next punch. wrong tan sao is fun sao!

I think you misunderstand the concept. In Chinese the word that is translated as "trap" in English doesn't quite mean that. It means, more or less, under the context, to prevent the other hand from hitting. Lap sau is a 'trap' as if you pull the man's hand down correctly, then he can't hit you with the other hand. it is "trapped". It doesn't and never did mean the kind of thing you have in the first 30 seconds or so.
@ShaolinkungfubyRadek
@ShaolinkungfubyRadek 9 месяцев назад
Trapping is possible, and much easier to do if you perform it as an attack or 'opening the way' for your attack. Why? Because you " force " the opponent to make the moves, you will " need " to make the trap. Boxers do the same, the difference being that they don't use " locks", but "force" them to perform the movement actions in question. On the other hand, using the trap in a real fight as a defence requires greater skill and experience. In this case, it is harder. Have a nice day.
@michaelruppert7058
@michaelruppert7058 9 месяцев назад
Good stuff, also we can always step backwards taking their energy towards us. Then we can let all hell go.
@Josmitty
@Josmitty 9 месяцев назад
Yup! the only trap that happens is in the mind and in the training-- people try to 'win' at a hands-game chi sau, patting themselves on the back when they get a trap and a punch in. Then they play many years of weird chi-sau games with a limited axis of rotation, reinforcing tricks and habits that are not applicable to reality. It's bad for the junior student, who comes to believe they're actually trapped, and bad for the senior student, who thinks they're getting something out of it. not to say that facing chi sau is without its merits-- the axis of rotation is limited for a reason. Whenever you train /anything/ in sports or playing an instrument or lifting weights, you're probably eliminating variables to learn a skill. But it's important to know the weaknesses of an exercise so you can train something else to compensate for the habit. glad to see you guys are out training despite the cold. Greetings from San Diego!
