Thank you for showing me this, I have a dark red 1991 Volkswagen Golf MK2 (regular), which is mechanically in excellent condition because we bought it for our grandmother in 2002 and it has ever only been driven from spring to autumn and has spent winters in a garage. It ended up in my hands because my grandmother got too old to drive (she has a weak heart but she's otherwise doing fine). While it's rust-free and mechanically good, it's paint has become badly damaged so I'll have to have it have it repainted but I am gonna have them match the stock color to keep it true to original. I am thanking you because one thing I don't have is the original hub caps which were these black central hub caps like yours, I just wasn't sure what the bolt caps looked like. So with you showing the wheels up close now I know and already found where to get them and the hub caps. I'm also going to restore the plastic trim which has become very gray and the driver seat needs a bit of help from a upholsterer. Once I have it fully restored to it's original looks, I am gonna take it to grandmother and let her drive it a bit somewhere safe, away from the main roads. I am sure she's going to be very happy seeing the old girl restored. She keeps asking me how it's driving, after all, heh. In any case we have a plan to keep the old Golf in the family and never sell it, unless it ends up sitting in a shed for too long. But as the number of MK2s keeps falling, so will it's value only go up, so it's good to keep it regardless.
Lovely car. I too have a C reg Mk2. Mine doesn't have indicator side repeaters, having small GTI badges there instead. I wonder if your has had an indicator upgrade or if it was like that from new. Mus admit I do not know exactly when the wing indicators were introduced but had always assumed it was after the Type 19.
Hi Sam, just watched the video on the car I'm interested in. And it's a lovely car, and in a great condition. Pictures don't do it justice, but the video definitely does. 👌
Can't think of many other daily drivers that can beat this for all-round package & the previous owner should be proud of himself for maintaining it virtually showroom condition....💕
Certainly not a Volvo specialist. I thought they were 262 for some reason. Until I checked it against the reg. more used to working with BMW’s / VAG platform cars
The D5 of this age is the twin turbo, so it's roughly 212 BHP which is 215 PS. Unless it has been remapped however :). You may have been thinking of the T5's which are around 262 depending on the model.
