Thanks I’m about to try this for the first time. But I just want straight across lines through the blanket without any perpendicular lines. So if I rotate while doing them, the entire perimeter won’t be stitched just every other section. Will that be ok, or should I do a perimeter stitch too

Please explain how to thread a spool of quilting thread onto the horizontal spool that is attached to my machine. When I tried, the spool rattled around a lot and then spun right off the spindle.

Thanks for this tutorial! I am preparing to make one (or hopefully a few...) memory quilt(s) using my daughters' clothes. I am trying out some quilt block patterns. I also wanted to try out soluble interfacing for stabilising. Have you ever tried that? I am curious to see if that helps with the sewing of the quilt but also reducing some bulkiness after washing.

Tara, I made a t-shirt quilt as a gift to my grandson. I use June Taylor interfacing with a fleece backing. The next child played football so I have jerseys. Can I fuse the t-shirt interfacing to the jerseys?
@quiltspluslove1896
@quiltspluslove1896 Год назад
I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work. Make sure to protect your iron from the fusible. :) happy quilting!

I see you stitched over the t-shirt graphics. Doesn't puncturing the vinyl or whatever the graphic is made of create the possibility of it coming apart or peeling with washings afterwards?
@quiltspluslove1896
@quiltspluslove1896 Год назад
I’ve never had an issue with peeling afterward with vinyl. If the item seems delicate I avoid quilting the area, and I avoid obstacles glitter/embellishments. For those areas I typically quilting a halo around the perimeter.

Thank you Tara, this was pretty good for a beginner but some steps were cut out or missing. I didn't see what you did to turn over the piece and do the top side nor what to do with the corners. I do have better idea now though.

Tara, I loved this video. While I’ve been quilting for several years now, I came across this when I searched RU-vid looking for a simple quilt idea to prepare for a 1 year old birthday party I’ll be attending in the next few weeks. I have a local market coming up and on top of that, working full time, I didn’t want to stress about having to do an intricate project in such a short amount of time! I LOVE how you approached this as a great beginner quilter project. Getting down the basics and not having to stress about piecing is a great approach and one I wish someone had shared with me when I first started off! I love and appreciate how you share the process with such great explanations and detail, making sure you get the viewers of this video a good look at how you are completing each step. That is one thing that is significantly lacking in the quilting community videos on RU-vid. Just subscribed to help support your channel and I look forward to getting to see your other videos. You rock!

Put a piece of painters tape down the center of the quilt. Then sew along that to get a straight stitching line. Then use the wire guide along the 1st stitched line when you do the 2nd stitching line, and so on.

I have followed your suggestion with using the jersey basketball shirts, by attatching them to tshirt fabric around the perimeter and adding stabilizer to the back. Now I have the quilt all assembled and ready to top stitch. The blocks are 15" in diameter, and the quilt is a 5 block by 6 block with a 2.5" boarder. My worry is how to top stitch it. The concern is that the jersey fabric moves around. With that said, there will be some movement in the slippery jersey, so if I free motion I might get some excess fabric puckering going on. Any suggestions?

Thank you. I have just decided to use my son’s hoodies for a quilt. I am going to hand sew it. Very ambitious of me as I’ve only sewn one thing in my life and it was a queen size memory/story/photo quilt for my granddaughter. It is 100% hand sewn and I’ve just taken it to South Africa. I now want to make one for each of my children, all hand sewn as well. I wasn’t sure where to start and you’ve shown me. Thank you.
