@dangerstall

Are you referring to the red prusik cord? That would be for progress capture, attached to the rope coming in on the change of direction pulley. It allows you to capture your hauling progress.

This is a nice video, but it would be more useful if it included a gear list (it wouldn't have to include the ropes or harnesses to be useful). That would help with not having to make out the names of tech gear, given the horrific background noise competing with the audio.

Progress capture?
@dangerstall

Is that a question or a criticism? As you can see there is a red prusik next to the first COD pulley. Unfortunately I never got around to attaching it in this video. It would go on the prusik minding side of the first COD pulley.

Classic case of a guy not knowing who he is talking to. You are coming at me with some strong aggression dude. First of all, I never said this is the fastest way to ascend. This is a typical way to ascend in rope access and rope rescue professions. I also do tree work and I prefer to ascend with my Unicender, SAKA knee ascender, and foot ascender. A little Technique called rope walking. I guarantee it’s faster than the “old way” you are referring to. What do you do? Hip thrust on a Blake’s hitch? If you want another video featuring me ascending in trees, check out the official Rock Exotica Unicender RU-vid video. Have a good night.

I'm about to deal with just his type of attitude with our volunteer dept. I get the classic, "we do things a little differently here" speech quite often. Usually, this means without regard for safety on the part of the rescuers. I respond with, "yeah, and I was only a paid, full time fire fighter at an ISO 1 dept for 32 years so we are going to do things my way." "This may or may not agree with you, but that's how we will conduct any technical rescue." Very nice demo! Techniques and equipment have come a long way in 40 years! @@dangerstall

If you had connected the figure of eight to the becket of the lower pulley and then connect the lower pulley directly to the load with a carabiner,would that still be considered and function as 5:1? PS. Thanks for making these videos. They have helped me understand considerably.

Yes, if you connected the end of the rope to the becket of the traveling pulley, it would still be a 5:1

The point of the prusik is to stop the load from dropping right?
@dangerstall
@dangerstall Год назад
Depends on which prusik you are talking about. There is a progress capture prusik that goes on the change of direction pulley, and a rope grab prusik that goes on the traveling pulley. The progress capture prusik stops the load from dropping.

Why do you do a line ascent? Isn't it easier to place the Aztek near the descender and after passing the knot just release the Aztek?
@dangerstall
@dangerstall Год назад
I don’t understand what you mean by “line ascent”? I’m also kind of confused by your second question. Once passing the knot through the clutch I released the AZTEK until the clutch had the load. Then I could take the AZTEK off the main line. Are you asking about passing the knot during a lower or a raise?

@geometerfpv2804
@geometerfpv2804 Месяц назад
Yeah, but then once it reaches the pulley, you can't haul anymore. With the prussik, you can let the progress capture hold the load, move the traveling prussik, and keep hauling. With you method, you're only gonna haul something a short distance.
@TemplarX2
@TemplarX2 Месяц назад
@@geometerfpv2804Correct me if I'm wrong, here it's a progress capture pulley not a progress capture prusik (as wrongly labelled in the video). That prusik is not for progress capture but for efficiency if the rope goes 90 degrees down as in a cliff. So you use that prusik before the rope angle down. Once the travelling pulley meets the progress capture pulley, the pull is over. You can't reset anything because the progress capture pulley is fixed. If anything that prusik while increasing efficiency in some cases shortens the haul. I would like to be corrected though.
@TemplarX2
@TemplarX2 10 дней назад
@rapalalake Yea prusik is amazing. I use it all the time when a setting tarp system for hammock camping. I also use two modified prusiks called schwabisch to climb a rope easily using a harness. Another use of prusik people doesn't know much. If you have a tree (not too thick) and you can't reach a branch, you can make two butterfly loops as foot rest and use the same rope to make a prusik around the tree (the shorter end you don't use can actually just hang free). Once you put a foot in the loop you have tension and the prusik holds. Put your foot again in the other loop to rise further.. You can then raise yourself up to reach the branch. It's like a quick rope ladder. Works also any pole as long as it is not icy. Once you are done and the system is without tension, you can quickly undo the whole thing.

Great Video! I have a question though.. what would the ratio be & what would happen if you made the 2nd redirection attached to a rope grab off the back of the progress capture pulley instead of the rigging plate?
@dangerstall
@dangerstall Год назад
If I understand you correctly, I think it might make it a complex 11:1 . You would have to reset the pulleys so many times though.
