Hello! I'm Flynn and I'm a race car loving, wrassling enjoying, and video game playing jackass from Puerto Rico. You can find my Twitch VODs and occasional video essays right here. One half of The GM Boys w/PMTTBone.
Since you didn't bother to cover the next-gen versions of 08/09, here's what I know. For 08, I actually stumbled upon the site/blog from a former EA dev that worked on the series from 07-09 and on the 08 page you can see a screenshot from what looks to be a beta version of the manufacturer select screen with a static background rather than the 3D garage from the final game and placeholder textures featuring the #66 Best Buy paint scheme from 2006 (which is interesting to see in 08's engine). 09 has stuff that was technically added into the final game, DLC paint schemes and Montreal as a track, but was later removed after EA and NASCAR parted ways.
As fa as NASCAR SimRacing goes, it did give us Dale Earnhardt and a bunch of liveries, so at least on PC Dale got into a NASCAR related title. Makes me wonder what changed between NT2004 and NSR for Dale to be licensed Also did not expect Black Crowes to get a mentio and a clip clip, hello MLB 2K flashbacks
The lack of sponsors on cars was because EA couldn't get permission to use them As for why the 16 & 61 Busch Series cars were nixed, thank Craftsman for that... They signed a exclusivity contract with NASCAR that blocked competitors from sponsoring teams, which included in NT2004 & NR2004
Fun fact, the UPS Truck has a database value as far back as Nascar Thunder 2004. Though it just results in a broken model that I probably will cover in some of my upcoming stuff.
Hey y'all, thanks for watching the video and the amount of support this project has been given. Discussing about NASCAR video game's cut content is always a fun time, even if the production of a video takes way, WAY too long compared to other content makers. Right now, I'm working on two upcoming videos, those being one ranking all of the Turner Broadcasting schemes that ran in the late 90s and the 2nd one covering the various Looney Tunes, Muppets, and Universal Monster schemes that ran in the early 2000s so keep an eye on those in the future. And for one last note, another shoutout has to go to Ty Thunder, Geep, and everyone who have been cracking into the code of these PS2-era NASCAR games and making these discoveries. This is Flynn, and I'll see ya on the flipside.
Been watching since the first episode, and now we know lots of new info since part 1 Thunder 2004 and NASCAR 2005 also had some cut thunder plates Ty Thunder was able to also find 2 cut fantasy drivers in Thunder 2002 named Ed Martin and Jason Parker, who worked with EA at the time the game was released Ty Thunder was also able to find an unused track intro in Thunder 2002 of Nazareth, but also found fantasy track intros that only appeared in the PlayStation version of Thunder 2002
I was a software engineer on the NASCAR series for several years. I was surprised to see my skull car from 2005 in your video! In some earlier version (I think 2004) we had plans for the development team to each design our own cars to put in the game, but there ended up not being enough time to do them all properly so they all got cut. The skull car was the start of my personal design. For 2005 I used it as a placeholder texture so we could easily see which cars still needed to be updated. As I recall, the removal of Pocono for 2005 was a licensing issue. The track owners wanted more than EA was willing to pay. An agreement couldn't be reached, so the track got pulled.
I always wondered what the process was in regards to coming up with fantasy paint schemes, a lot of the schemes and fake sponsors you guys came up with were very creative imo
FINALLY! Been waiting for this to drop for the longest time! So happy you actually completed this my guy although not to mention Ken Schrader in Cup and MTJ in Busch were also left out in Chase For The Cup and on top of that, according to AutoRockinRacing94, Dave Blaney was potentially intended to be in NASCAR 2001 as well. The Dale Sr one in Thunder 02 still makes me sad even to this day as I wish they still put him in like they did with Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin Jr in the previous game despite them passing away midseason in 2000 + you must’ve saw my comment about Brett Bodine’s removal in Thunder 02 which actually was a random guess with that glitchy looking pit stall. Last but not least, Paul Menard and Johnny Sauter in Busch were also scrapped from NASCAR 06. As a sucker for old school NASCAR, this is a fire video! Great work! EDIT: Magic Carpet Ride wasn’t in Thunder 02. That was Thunder 03 + that Thunder 02 Music was the PS1 Version’s generic menu theme as the game in general’s theme was Sweet Home Alabama which was on the PS2 and Xbox Versions only meaning that PS1 sadly didn’t have it
Damn, we could’ve had the 03, 7, 33, 54, 55, 57, 61, 66, 74, 75, 87, 92, an extra 1, 4, 6, 12, 16, 38, 54 car, which brings the career 1st season field go from 46 to 58 (including you), with 15 part time drivers and more replacement Busch series drivers 😂😢 we can only hope
Thank you so much if you watched the entire video. I'm still green in creating edited content, so if you have any recommendations, criticisms, or editing suggestions, let me know in this pinned comment. Once again, thank you so much for making this one of my most viewed videos and letting me gush about two of my favorite things: NASCAR and unused content in video games.
I’m more surprised that any other back field drivers had audio files such as Junior Donlaveys 90 Stan Hoovers 80 Or even road ringers such as Scott Pruett, Boris Said, But damn we were so close to getting Hideo Fukuyama in a NASCAR game….
I think the reason why they went with gant's busch series scheme is because his cup ride was sponsored by skoal, which also doesn't make sense considering the fact that AK has a censored version of his hooters scheme
YES! Been waiting for this to eventually drop! To this day I wish Tony Raines, Todd Bodine and even Jimmy Spencer had made the cut + I always seem to forget that Paul Menard was intended to be in the game and don’t get me started on John Andretti being replaced in the #43 by trashcan Christian Fittipaldi after Petty screwed him over IRL after the 1st Pocono Race a week before my 1st June MIS Race. Great stuff Flynn!
Holy shit a lot of Busch Series drivers got cut Kerry Earnhardt 12 Super Clips Christian Elder 38 Great Clips Hank Parker Jr 36 GNC Bobby Hamilton Jr 25 Marines Ford Shane Hmiel 47 Kenny Wallace 48 Stacker 2 Stacy Compton 59 Kingsford
There was one more Busch car that got cut: Matt Kenneth’s 17 JaniKing Ford. They went as far as to get a Thunder plate for that scheme and accurate team info in Season mode. If you want to see it, it’s in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s95ztDGqA7E.html Another driver that got cut from the Busch Series was Jeff Green. Green drove the 21 Rockwell Automation in the Busch Series in 2002. They replaced him with Jay Sauter. Green is still in the game as a Cup driver.
