Huge respect on the choice of music. I couldn’t even begin to explain how significant this song is to millions of South Africans. Johnny Clegg is sorely missed.
I made these a few months ago. I agree with the original crossover -- they are extremely fatiguing. After I did the crossover mod mentioned above (roughly $30 in parts) I do not find them overly bright anymore, just detailed and with great clarity. I have noticed however that on certain hip-hop tracks with really low bass -- the bass driver will chuff out of the space between the cone and phase plug. Only at high volumes and only on extremely low bass frequecies. I plan on buying a minidsp HD 2x4 to cut off such low frequecies to the 3.1a's and send them only to the Subwoofer. I imagine after that I wont find any complaint with these speakers. They image great, far away from the wall they sound spacious and open.
I heared it over Headphones and from the recording , you can hear muddier A and B clearer . These listeners there are clueless, they dont know what they need to hear , so they cant hear it , its like showing someone 2 same pictures , but one blurrier the other with higher definition but with pixels visible , and asking what picture you prefer not telling them witch is witch , they will all say they like Blurrier image better , it is only when you tell them , come closer you see now this is blurred oh its blurred i didnt see it , yeah you didnt know what to look for . Same is with these crossovers , everyone will say they like Analog better , because its softer , less edgy less pixelated , but also less resolution . It is when you know what to listen for , they you see actually digital one has more resolution more detail . If that is what you like
These are some really great DIY speakers and they are well worth the money and time. I would highly recommend Scotts perfectionist mod if you plan on building a set. Thanks Scott!!
@@chefbink61 thanks i found it scott has partsexpress for parts is price is really cheap wonder if i can fine better quality parts else wear these ate Daton
Wtf I just saw. I understood 100% of what you said without any kinda boringness. Thankyou man. Can anybody give me playlist of this dude explaning different things like this?? Please help somebody I got addicted to his tutorial.
I just built a pair of these. Without exaggeration, the $800 for the kits and a small amount more for building supplies, will yield a speaker that rivals commercially available speakers that would cost $5000, or possibly more. These have all the: detail, soundstage, imaging, midrange and high frequency accuracy of some high priced, audiophile speakers at much more $$$ Jeff Bagby was a speaker design wizard!
And let me add, that there is a kit for woofer modules (not subwoofers), that turn these into an even more legitimate 3 way audiophile speaker. I will be adding them within a month or 2.
Scott, the mid range / tweeter sounds tinny sometimes with recorded spoken voices, they sound like they're on a telephone. Singing voices sound perfectly fine though. Is this a limitation of the drivers, is it the BBC curve, is it the phases / time alignment, is it the recording, or is it the acoustics of my room? Have you noticed this with your modded 3.1?
that's certainly possible, you can even leave the crossover out and use a dsp crossover insead if you use a icepower or hypex plate amp, it'd be more expensive though.
Just came across these speakers believe it or not, how they holding up guys? video posted a while back, have you felt the need for subwoofers or them good enough?
hi can you provide more info of a first pair of speakers that plays from a 0.00 in a video? And the last one that plays on 7minute thank you! I love these wide bass sounds it sounds great in a big room
RIP mister. an amazing guy, and will be sorely missed...even in winning an award, he starts out by giving credit to a ton of ppl right off the bat. humble, down to earth. a true class act.
Scott, Thank you for your help. I built these using the perfectionist approach and they are spot on to my ears. I'm really tempted to build a set with 10" passive radiators on the sides but I need to work on my measuring skills. I rotored out the box for the Mid to fit flush. I used a grinder to make on the mid driver to make it fit flush. They outshine speakers in the $1000 range.
