While I can appreciate the dedication I’m hesitant about the statement/question “if not now, when?” #1- if someone isn’t ready or doesn’t see the abusive behaviors yet, it’s a good way for them not to include you in their life anymore. They’ll see you as someone trying to make their life more difficult. #2- there are those who HAVE decided but can’t leave for safety or financial reasons. Too many times I’ve seen people leave but get hurt or even killed on their way out the door. Or they don’t have the means to leave, maybe because they’ve been cut off from their friends and family (sometimes on their own as mentioned above, sometimes due to the partner) or social programs in their immediate area aren’t equipped at the time to take on more. There is no black and white situation when it comes to DV and the situation should be handled delicately and with care. Always be there for them. Let them vent. Offer them a place of reprieve; IE - “if you ever need to get away for a night, come stay with me!” But be cautious of words because if they feel pressured, it can backfire on you.
So was I because you just don’t know. Many environmental/ emotional/situational factors come to place as not all fits one reason. Shining light to the many lenses of DV is so important 💜 Thank you for this lovely 🎗️💜
