On-road, off-road and in between... motorcycle rides, motorcycle servicing info and more.
I've been passionate about motorcycles since before I was old enough to get my motorcycle license. I've been riding for decades, now. My wife and kid ride too. Our current rides include a DR650SE, DR200SE, CRF250F, CBR250RA and a KLX140L. I also recently bought a CRF300L and will be adding related content.
Road and Trail is the companion channel to my motorcycling enthusiast website of the same name. The website contains well-documented BC motorcycle rides (street bike, dual sport, trail), motorcycle reviews, motorcycle servicing information, plus some additional content. The current website went live July 2021, but this channel was only created Feb 2023.
That's funny! I appreciate the comment. I do get my DR dirty, believe it or not, and I don't even wash it that frequently. I do prefer to work on a clean bike, though.
Thanks! I have the Suzuki factory service manual (11th edition, 2009, part number: 99500-46072-01E). It covers model years 1996-2009. I also have the service information for the 2010 model which I got from Suzuki Canada, which you can download from my website here: roadandtrail.net/ArticleIndex
In order to adjust the chain, you need to loosen the axle nut, so the answer is yes (probably), you will (most likely) need to remove the cotter pin in order to adjust the chain. Depending on the size of the cotter pin, it might be possible to loosen the axle nut just enough without removing the cotter pin to facilitate adjusting the chain.
