Who's decision was it to take it flush with the other dormers? Is this one gonna cost the client or you, or both? If I had to do that it would probably destroy me mentally. That's a big job to put right.

Fair play for even being on a roof , bit off advice use black bitumen along with the strap it stops the slate rattling in the wind, & if possible use lead strap not tin , as leads folds easier into place
