Enjoying going back through and watching some of these Mark! I know the dillema all too well haha. I got a port made for my Contax's but find myself rarely using them because the 18-35 is just so much more functional to use in the water. Same deal.. anytime I try to overcomplicate things I end up just going back to what works
Haha it’s a never ending cycle hey, I want to get a port made for my 18-80 and be done with it…but low light and full frame and and and and and … I know it’ll just cause more questions along the way 🤦🏼♂️
Nice video and comprehensive message! I can identify with everything, to the point that I almost wish I didn’t watch it. The reason is I am on similar thoughts but reaching almost the opposite conclusion, which I am now hesisitating about might be wrong. I bought the FD+ gen 1 two years ago and it’s got me into foiling, pumping and practicing downwind on a prone board at a convenient distance from my house on a convenient time schedule. I am by no means proficient which I perhaps should become before ditching the FD. But I am also not fully enjoying the sport with the FD. I don’t like thinking about the battery running out, I don’t like thinking about charging and maintenence and that water might leak in and break such an expensive piece of gear and I don’t like the whole aspect of relying on a motor. So I ordered a custum downwind board. I look forward to the exercise and the feeling of ”doing it on my own” but perhaps I am kidding myself and there will just be a lot of suffering and very little time on foil. Perhaps gen 2 solves some of my issues with gen 1, e.g., not being strong enough to go upwind and running out of gas too soon and worrying about breaking (maybe). I will strech my economy and keep the FD+ gen 1 alongsidw my new downwind board and prone and try to evaluate what I prefer, but perhaps I should’ve just splashes out for the gen 2. Although in the end. What does other’s youtube videos provide us? I think most need to figure it out on their own in the end anyway because we’re all different.
I feel like dw sup and dw fd are two different sports; I still love the freedom of being on sup knowing the more effort I put in the more I get back, but the fd is equally cool in the options it opens up for getting straight into the bumps with almost no thought needed. I never used Gen1 so can't comment on upgrading, but sounds like you're on a path of learning to paddle dw and the newer dw boards and efficient foils will speed up your learning curve significantly - hopefully you won't go through the 18 month grind like I did! In the end you'll be better off knowing how to paddle dw as well as fd dw, there are too many options in this crazy sport!
@@mark.tipple Makes sense. It’s probably the best of two worlds if one can afford to keep both FD and a DW specific board in their quiver. I do think that contemporary gear will make things easier. I’m getting a rounded hull custom DW board at 8’10 length and a 13.4 AR front wing (Sabfoil leviathan pro) with specs similar to the Art pro 1401. Wish me luck! 💪💪
Fantastic video Mark. I had the pleasure of borrowing some kid from FD to learn foiling from scratch and I was hooked from the start.. Now I just have to get good enough to go foiling with them!
This is amazing mate. A huge insight not only into you, but also the other end of the weight stick... one of the cool discussions that have come out of me highlighting my pursuit of weight loss, is how many legends are on the other end of the scales facing the same dilemma. Keen to see how you balance your routine to get fit mate! Will not only be following, but this amazing video has been the perfect reminder to give you a buzz. Love ya mate
Maybe 20 seconds breath hold and to 5 meters deep, we were a bit freaked out by the Irukandji so basically jumped in to get a few shots then back on the boat to safety :)
Love the honesty, simplicity and in a way vulnerability of this post! So down to earth! By the way.. the footage you shot with the RED is stunning!! Now... a mirrorless can cost more than the dragon... a Used Dragon can be bought for 4 or 6K (depends where), but more or less... & the Sony A1 is over $6,000 , just saying. Never the less, you know how to use them well, (RED's), so you can rent one when you ned one, I think your plan is good man! :) Cheers! 💪
Thanks mate, yep, pros and cons to everything these days, I have 2 x C300 mkii's that cover 90% of my work so I'll stick with them and see what other work comes up, can always figure it out on a shoot by shoot basis :)
Its dum? You can't even spell the word dumb. This is inspirational. This young man who's only relation to this woman is being a friend of her sons' is taping her to his back so she can surf - something she would have been unable to do with out his idea of using the duck-tape. Its not dumb at all, its sweet, inspirational, amazing, smart, kind, superb... It's simple amazing and you really need to be "dum" not to see that.
