I love the optimistic view of leaders roles in safety, particularly how we place supervisors with such a direct responsibility to make sure all the process's and safety checks are being used and are in place and expect they have been trained, have a capacity to do the job affectively and most importantly have the time. They are far closer to working from paycheck to paycheck and have immense pressure to get a productive outcome and keep there paychecks coming in, and often priorities away from safe work practices to do this. How many CEOs go and see if there safety vision translates as they expect in the front of there business, rather that just reviewing the safety results? I have had supervisor to executive roles and this is not a CEO bash, just my observation.

Great, valid points made. It's just unfortunate that once Health & Safety personnel are introduced to the workplace, some managers and supervisors have the mistaken belief that their degree of accountability is inversely proportionate to the proximity of the Health & Safety personnel. Fortunately it's not always the case, but this phenomenon is way more prevalent than some managers and supervisors would care to admit. As soon as I hear 'well, where the heck was the safety guy?!?!' being the first question asked after an incident, I know that a workplace has a bad case of this severe dysfunction. I've also heard it said too often that incidents occur because the safety guy wasn't at the worksite enough, when it's eventually revealed that the root causes where all entirely within the managers' or supervisors' abilities to identify and address. That being said, I've often been fortunate to have dealt with teams whose managers, supervisors, and workers take their safety roles and responsibilities seriously and it is a pleasure to behold.

Excellent Video! I was always getting complains from family , colleagues & children's &i was never understanding why? I consulted a psychiatrist and she told me that I better figure out how I am doing different roles & how i am balancing & for this calculations i used an iPhone app "iRoles" which gave me percentage wise fulfillment of Roles. With the help of this report & doctor, I now lead a more cool and balanced life!!
That's not just a density altitude problem, that is a RTFM problem, as well. The ground roll on the 108 series is a lot longer if the pilot does not use one notch of flaps.
Safety professionals? Only one guy wearing a paintball mask then walks around with the gun with no barrel plug in place. After the test the camera guy turns to show no one else even wearing safety glasses! hmmm
